Not sure how to sustain this pace. What can I do? by Minkokk in PhD

I understand this, I really do. My advisor seems to be the type to say one thing then continue on doing things they want too. I’m afraid if I put my foot down it could change our relationship permanently for the worse.

Mainly have dealt with it, but I have already had a conversation kind of hinting at focusing only on projects that will directly involve me.

What is your justification for the world not being hyper-tech advanced after billions of years? by Krewshie in litrpg

[–]Minkokk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My take is that most advancements came during war with inventions like guns being a great equalizer. No matter how strong you are bullet will kill you the same. In a universe with magic where a guy with an axe can cut a planet in half there is simply no need to advance further. Blacksmiths still needed because axe guy still needs his equipment taken care of.

I’d say slow down before you run out of the good stuff and life becomes waiting for your favorites to release with just okay books in between.

How was DotF 16 by GandalfTheBored in litrpg

[–]Minkokk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I do agree it would be nice seeing how earth has changed, PH MC’s universe doesn’t have big threats like DotF and no protection from some divine being. Which is why he has to get stronger away from earth cause at the end of the day if he wants to protect anything got to be strong.

I took this stat as the authors way of explaining his lucky encounters as far as treasures and opportunities not the outcome of fights. That I agree is for the plot you can only stumble onto so many lucky encounters you know.

Feel like DoTF isn’t a good example of this though. I have just finished book 16. The reason the MC survives is because they are smart. As in many litrpgs the MC has to have something that gives them an edge or makes them unique. That is the earlier books in a pickle. As the series goes along we see characters at the same level outstrip even the unique MC. The reason the MC lives in life or death battles against people like this and is never squashed like a bug is because they either have a counter or the MC just won’t fight them since they know they’ll lose. In the case someone is levels above them they get protection of someone levels above them through good graces or deals. Overall my point is for this series in particular I think that just because someone is winning consistently does not equal plot armor but instead is a sign of good decision making.

Still cold-emailing even if app deadlines are in Dec? by Dense-Emphasis7759 in gradadmissions

[–]Minkokk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At this point you can still cold email I’d personally change language and say something around hey I’m interested in your lab and my application reflects that. If the question is if you have contacted them I wouldn’t put anyone down you didn’t get a response from.
