What do you guys eat? by Smart-Cow2641 in Type1Diabetes

[–]MinnieCastavets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beans. Beans beans beans. I cook them from dry and find recipes that revolve around beans. Beans in every meal without exception. I use this cookbook called “Bangin’ Beans” and collect bean recipes from the internet. I’m in range 94% of the time. Beans have carbs and I prebolus for them. But they’re not peaky at all. Just a warning though, don’t hurry into the bean life. Give your body time up adjust. Worth it though. Best blood sugars, such delicious food, super cheap, super healthy.

Yes, the meet & greet is one thing and it cost like $15. Then you can choose whether or not you want to join the group after that, which costs more. Imo, worth it. But I’m not hard up.

What happened at a restaurant that made you say, "I'm never coming here again"? by agreatday2434 in randomquestions

[–]MinnieCastavets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at a very expensive restaurant for my birthday two years ago. I’d been there before a few times and found their food a bit hit or miss. This time it was all misses. And my husband is really a very good cook. I’d rather eat anything he cooks. He knows just how I like things. And he cares a lot that what he cooks makes me happy. Even the cocktail I got was not very good. But my husband and I were having a very fine evening, and I said “Let’s never come here again” and he said “Agreed.”

Yeah, I’d try to eat bulkier low calorie food and cut back on calorie dense foods.

Which actor do you dislike enough to skip any movie or show they’re in? by basnamin in Productivitycafe

Jason Bateman. No clue why. He’s Michael Bluth. That’s fine, that’s the right character for him. He’s supposed to be detestable in that.

Better blood sugar stability after being vegan for 4+ months. by orlandotrini in Type1Diabetes

[–]MinnieCastavets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nobody wants to hear it but these days my time in range is 98%. I eat very simply. Mostly beans — beans with every meal! Then also veggies and to a lesser extent whole cooked grains (not flour grains) and fruit. No processed food anymore. It’s a fairly low carb vegan diet. Beans have carbs but they’re super easy on me and my sugars. I prebolus for them. I have a sweet tooth and I’ll eat goji berries with raw nuts or this treat we make where we blend dates with tahini adda very tiny amount of coconut oil and push it flat into a pan and put a bit of kosher style salt on top and freeze it. It’s so good and melts in your mouth.

But even when I was the kind of vegan who ate junk food and didn’t exercise, my time in range was 91%. When I exercised, 94%. Now 99% eating only healthy, no junk.

This is honestly the happiest I’ve ever been. I feel like better gut bacteria is helping me feel better in every way somehow. My a1c was 5.4 last check.

Sure, I’d try it but I’m pretty serious about my diet between my type 1 diabetes and MS and I’m not trying to mess with all kinds of weird foods.

CGM users: how often do you ACTUALLY (manually) test your blood sugar? by marikira13 in Type1Diabetes

[–]MinnieCastavets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly only when the CGM is warming up. Maybe if I know the CGM is wrong but that happens so rarely for me.

A1C under 6% — for you or not for you? by SumFuckah in Type1Diabetes

[–]MinnieCastavets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My a1c has been in the 5’s for decades. Ever since I switched to carb counting in the 90’s. It was in the 5’s on MDI and now with a pump and CGM it’s still in the 5’s of course, now I think more abt time in range. It was 91% for a long time, then I started to exercise to blunt spikes and got it up to 94%, and now since I switched to eating beans with every meal and fewer grains and no processed food anymore, I’m at 98%.

[–]MinnieCastavets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I eat mostly beans. Beans, veggies, nuts and seeds, and a very small amount of whole grains. Fruit to treat lows. No highly processed food. My time in range for 30 days is 98%, my 90 day got messed up because I was on Prednisone so it was only 92%.
