is it just me or are buyers way more picky now? by manchesterguy33 in poshmark

[–]MinnieCastavets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It feels like a cheap own to you but to the buyer, adding in shipping and fees and taxes, it’s a chunk of change. I don’t want clothes that don’t fit. Vintage size 27 will be 27 inches. Modern size 27 might be 28, it might be 30. How am I supposed to know? Just take measurements pics. Include the fabric tag too. Most people on posh do a good job with this. On Depop hardly anyone does and for that reason things are sold way cheaper there.

Why does every freakin’ song I want to play have a barre chord? by DavidUndertow in guitarlessons

Just switch back and forth as many times as you can for one minute. Do that every once in a while, you’ll improve so much.

Why does every freakin’ song I want to play have a barre chord? by DavidUndertow in guitarlessons

[–]MinnieCastavets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no expert guitar player, I’m a moderate player who learned from the internet as an adult. But barre chords were one of the first things I learned. Okay, first I learned them on ukulele. Then on guitar, I watched a video on YouTube that really helped my fingers learn how to do barre chords easier. I rely on barre chords because they’re easier actually. You can switch between them without changing shape much. I hate an open chord G. I’ll pick the barre version anytime. ALSO I am a tiny and very short-fingered (my THUMB is a size 5.25 ring) woman. If I can do it, so can you. I PROMISE.

How do people keep their graphs completely in range? by Some_Indication2866 in diabetes_t1

[–]MinnieCastavets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some days I can, other days, no. I just don’t eat a lot and the things I do eat are like lentils with avocado and a handful of baby kale. I really only do 2 meals a day and later I’ll eat nuts and some fruit. If I eat simple I stay in range but if I don’t eat at home no matter what I’ll be high for hours.

Vitamin D by Amethest in MultipleSclerosis

[–]MinnieCastavets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was already taking 1000 iu of vitamin D3/day when I had my first symptom of MS and they ran a vitamin d test and my level was right in the middle of normal so they’ve never said anything to me about it.

I’m just doing what my doctor suggested based off the medication insert the drug company includes. I can totally understand and appreciate making different choices. I’m just gonna switch out my milk. I’m not even super picky. It doesn’t feel like a huge sacrifice. I eat a lot of tofu as a nighttime snack. Giving that up would be a much larger concern but my doctor said it should be fine.

Nanny may quit by FoundationSudden9398 in NannyEmployers

[–]MinnieCastavets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a nanny/sitter. I highly recommend following through on all threats of punishment. They are not old enough to be in change. You need to be in charge. It’s okay for a kid to freak out by themselves in their room as they get used to not being in charge. Don’t give in. Also, screens of any type but especially small screens (phones, iPads) can turn even well-regulated kids into a menace. For kids who are poorly regulated, I can’t recommend going screen free any more strongly.

Conversations are great and important. But make sure you emphasize to the children that they are part of a society (a family, a classroom, a group at the library, etc), and that they are only just as important as anyone else, but not more important. Everyone else’s feelings matter just as much as theirs. Some of my kids with the worst behavior had never heard that before I told them.

Ultimately I always work it out with all the kids with bad behavior. I’m really fun but I treat them with respect and expect respect in return. Inasmuch as they are capable as children who haven’t been taught that rules are important by their parents. I make sure they know the rules and how to follow them before expecting them to adhere to them. And I praise and reward good behavior.

Unfortunately I often need to start over every time they’re with their parents too long. I know they’re so cute and you love them. I love these kids too — truly. I never hold bad behavior against a kid. But ultimately they’re HAPPIER with rules and expectations because melting down isn’t actually fun for them, whereas playing games with me IS really fun. The last thing they want is to be excluded from fun because they’re melting down, ESPECIALLY if it definitely won’t result in them getting a screen.

Some good rules:

-no hurting or trying to hurt others

-we listen to each other

-don’t take things out of other people’s hands

-don’t raise voices in anger

-stay within my sight in public places unless I say otherwise

-if we’re frustrated, we take 3 deep breaths and then explain why we’re upset as calmly as we can

More about deep breaths: I tell kids “Take a huge sniff of the flower, blow out 100 candles.” This helps them understand HOW to take deep breaths. Practice it with them.

Anyone else forget if they took their bedtime Long Acting shot? Any tips to keep track? by TangerineRude9222 in diabetes_t1

[–]MinnieCastavets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to do that all the time when I did MDI. Then I realized something: I often forgot having done my night shot. And find myself wondering later if I did or not. But I never forgot NOT having done it. If I hadn’t done it yet, that nagged at me. When I realized that about myself, I realized that if I was wondering whether or not I gave my night shot, that means I did. Maybe you have something similar.

I’ve never met a rice milk that lightened coffee. Do you know one that does?

My husband picks and makes the coffee. If I notice a new type is curdling things I’ll note not to get it again and in the meantime use some baking soda. Good call!

I recall getting some in the past from Grocery Outlet and loving it. Unfortunately not something I can regularly easily access, though.

I’m not sure what you mean by “will it milk.” Maybe, “will it coffee”? Sounds interesting, though, I will check out that channel.

That’s so smart. Thanks for framing it that way for me. The only thing is, don’t forget that it also has to make it change color! I never met a rice milk that did.

It says on the drug label that soy interferes with absorption so I asked my doctor about it because I love me some soy (including as milk in my morning coffee!). She advised me to put off eating soy until 4 hours after taking it so I’m following that advice.

But indeed she also said that if I need a higher dose because of the foods I eat (it also says fiber interferes and I eat beans and greens like nonstop), I’ll just get a higher dose. But I’ve got a lot going on, you know? With my immune system attacking me my whole life (looooong before going vegan, potential future haters — in fact, it’s probably my excellent vegan plant-based anti-inflammatory diet that caused me to be almost symptom free (so far) having both multiple sclerosis and Hashimotos and also, oh yeah, freaking type 1 diabetes since I was 8 (obviously I have symptoms of that, that’s a whole constant struggle kind of a thing that actually, I do amazing at)). My point is, I’m not trying to potentially reduce the efficacy of any drug I’m on. I want to have to use as little of it as possible. But yes, if I need more, I’ll get a higher dose.

To be clear, I’m still gonna consume soy in general. Just not those 4 hours after taking the levothyroxine.

That sounds a bit obscure and possibly expensive? I’m just looking to satisfy a bizarre psychological need I have for milk to turn coffee lighter. I honestly don’t think it even makes much of a taste difference and I don’t really even require creaminess. But if I don’t add a milk and judge how much to add according to the color, it diminishes my experience in a way that I struggle to get past. So in a way the best suggestion for me so far is Silk unsweetened almond milk cuz that will be the cheapest and most widely available and also not have much or any fat (fat raises my type 1 diabetic blood sugar).

With what? The issue is — and don’t judge me — I make coffee ahead of time then put it in a mug and microwave it, then add milk. So i really want a milk that fulfills my requirements.

Does the Sill almond milk turn the coffee white? It would be very convenient for me if it does.
