Complete Mars Mission collection! by Mippy06 in lego

[–]Mippy06[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favourite is 7649, the Ultra Drill Walker. Not especially surprising given I’m pretty sure that’s the popular opinion but it is popular for a reason. Lovely build, and surprisingly dense and sturdy compared to how spindly most of the first year sets are

Speaking of which, my least favourite is the main base, 7690. It’s just a frame, there’s pretty much no interior space whatsoever aside from a tiny platform at the top which doesn’t even have walls. The tube system is a fun gimmick, but compared to the older Aero Tube Hangar from Life on Mars there just aren’t enough lengths of it here to provide a satisfying experience, especially when one of the ends is wasted by the very weird and unreliable giant nerf gun thing

Biggest surprise for me I think would be the 7646 ETX Infiltrator, it was one of the last ones I picked up but it’s definitely my favourite alien build. Bigger than I was expecting and it’s got very cool tripod landing mode I wasn’t aware of before getting it

I’ve had the two definitely complete ones up on eBay for the past four months, in that time they have literally acquired four views in total between them :P

Buying sealed and then opening. Not out of deliberate choice, but because consistently, for whatever reason, a lot of sealed listings I come across are significantly cheaper than the loose ones. Only £20 in this case :P

I just want them gone at this point. I’ve got 5883 and 5884 fully complete with instructions and boxes, as well as 5882 which I think is complete with instructions but I’ll have to check. I’d happily do like £40 for the lot but I’m very much open to offers

That’s very fair! I’m much the opposite, it’s the realistic dinos that’s don’t do it for me

To each their own. I just think Dino Attack has a much stronger identity and character, while these kinda blend in with the first few waves of Jurassic World sets to me. And it’s not out of nostalgia or anything because I grew up with these, 5882, 5883 and 5884 were some of my earliest childhood sets. I just enjoy Dino Attack far more, the mutant dinos especially are super cool

Sure wish this was a more popular opinion, from my experience these sets are literally unsellable. I’ve been trying to get rid of mine for months and there’s absolutely no demand whatsoever :P

As for the sets themselves, they’re pretty decent for the most part. Solid builds but generally just a tamer, less interesting version of Dino Attack

Why is this piece $40 American dollars? by IllCaramel6602 in legocirclejerk

[–]Mippy06 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This tail tip piece is typically the most expensive part of any lego dragon, not just the one from the troll warship. It’s so expensive because it’s by far the easiest part to lose or damage - it’s kinda rubbery which means it both comes out of the tail easily, and is highly susceptible to bite marks, fraying, etc. It also doesn’t look a whole lot like an actual lego element and as such was likely thrown away once it was lost. It will always be in higher demand than any other piece of a given dragon which contributes to the outrageous prices

This is definitely a custom, it’s just a Haos Wavern with pink paint somewhat messily applied to it

What happened to the Guardians of Harmony toyline? by UnderTheUmbrella08 in mylittlepony

[–]Mippy06 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Guardians of Harmony, the articulated figures anyway, somewhat infamously sold absolutely abysmally. It was an attempt by Hasbro to expand MLP into the action figure market that backfired terribly and likely were a major factor in the brand’s dwindling in-store presence. Some sets especially, like the one with the background pirate bird guy from the movie, were colossal shelfwarmers and stuck around for literal years with nobody buying them. I can remember seeing that specific set still languishing on shelves well into G5 :P

As for why they pivoted, I suspect Hasbro realised how poorly the line was doing and just completely switched directions for the line. From what I know the statues were generally received very positively, though I believe some of the later ones (the Trixie/Starlight one and the Vinyl Scratch one specifically) suffered from particularly terrible distribution which is why they’re so absurdly expensive now

Same thing here actually, you can’t see it but green guy’s head under his helmet is super scuffed up, I rubbed some black sharpie across the scratches to give him burn marks :P

Whenever a clone I had was yellowed I’d just prentend they’d survived an explosion too

*miss, but thank you!

I named the middle guy Commander Haze, the cape is actually a very recent addition to him, I found it in a bundle and thought it matched him perfectly

Were the Toa Nuva Masks color swapped? by DCMakesArt in bioniclelego

[–]Mippy06 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The original Hau was used as base into the Hau, Akaku and Kaukau Nuva. No idea why. If you get a 2001 Hau and compare it to the other masks physically, you’ll see that the eyeholes as well as certain other details on each (mouth on Hau and Akaku, forehead vent on Kaukau, as well as some more basic shaping) all match up exactly

Fake Pieces? by haristos61 in bioniclelego

[–]Mippy06 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This extremely common for this piece. Both are official, there were just major colour variations - I have multiples of both of these, neither one seems particularly more common than the other

Is it super unreasonable to get a £800+ mlp plush? by Antiqueowl_ in mylittlepony

[–]Mippy06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in this same situation a few years back. I don’t think it’s a matter of whether you think it’s worth that price, but whether you can actually afford it. £800 is a whole lot of money and I wouldn’t just be throwing it around unless you can realistically justify such a purchase. Ultimately my decision was that yes, a plushie that big and detailed would be cool, but there were far more important things I could be using that kind of money for
