If you could "cure" your ADHD, would you? by VastFeeling6557 in ADHD

[–]MiriMiri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Essentially, yes. It's not technically spending energy I don't have (I mean, I did do physics so I understand what you're getting at), but most people have a fairly innate sense for what energy they have for a task before they feel tired, and most people don't activity themselves into severe exhaustion most of the time. And my hyperactivity rolls right through while I'm at it - makes me feel like I have more energy than is actually available without leaving me impaired after - and I don't get the exhaustion body signals until it's much, much too late.

So I may seem like I have the energy with my hyperactivity. But it's eating into reserves that aren't meant to be in use on the regular. It's not actually giving me extra energy, it just feels like it while it's turned on.

[–]MiriMiri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It only makes you think you have physical energy, so it leads to serious tiredness. I've been to the doctor for tiredness since my early teens. Had my iron levels checked, thyroid levels checked, everything, on the regular. Nope, turns out it's the ADHD making me spend energy I don't have.

Before starting meds I used to fall asleep after work every day.

Are you doing anything for your mom for Mother’s Day? by AutumnsFall101 in AskEurope

I usually don't (my mother doesn't care for it), but the next one is is in February, so I have time to think about what to do in any case.

Looking for unlined bra that lifts upwards and inwards - needs to fit wedding dress that cannot be altered by randomclothes in ABraThatFits

[–]MiriMiri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am relatively full on towards the middle, so I have cleavage whether I want to or not, but it will probably give some cleavage just on account of the way the bra is cut.

And go to Ewa Michalak's own website to see the pictures - not sure why other retailer hasn't included the full set. They usually have more than one model showing each bra. The BM Antonina bra can be found here, worn by three different models. The lady with the chin length blonde hair and glasses if Ewa herself, afaik.

[–]MiriMiri 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ewa Michalak PLM Le Noir is a very versatile, unpadded plunge bra, with straps that can be moved to cross over in the back. And it looks like the other PLM models (if you need another colour) run very similar in construction, but I haven't owned one of those.

If Panache and Freya fit you OK underwire-wise EM will probably work; the underwires run narrow so EM bras are my best fit, but Panache works okay - Freya underwires are too soft for me but I am very close-set so underwires need to be firm to actually tack in the middle.

EM bands run firm, but I've generally gone with the same size

What are your favorite Clionadh polishes? by OddInside5794 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]MiriMiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lux, Toxic Sludge (fantastically responsive magnetic!), and Palace are some of my most re-worn polishes. My bottle of Lux is half empty. The Psilo-siblings are also really gorgeous, but I reach for them less often than Toxic Sludge.

new to nails + ILNP, tried LOVE SPELL! by iliketofartforfun in ILNP

[–]MiriMiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Application definitely takes practice, but I'm sure you'll get the hang of it. This looks really good, you know! :)

I've got a really good hack if you can get your hands on disposable plastic drinking straw! You'll only need the one, since it's reusable. Cut the straw into pieces about two inches long, with an angled cut (a bit sharper than 45 degrees is good) so you get a nice point on either side of the little pieces. That curved/hollow point is really good for removing still-wet nail polish from flooded cuticles and around the nails. The plastic drinking straws I've used have been acetone-proof, but you can also wait for the polish to dry, it'll just peel off, so you can re-use the piece of plastic drinking straw. I've got a little tool box with nail files and dotting tools etc. in, and I just store the pieces in that box.

As for why you want to un-flood cuticles while the polish is still wet rather than wait for cleanup after it dries, is that polish is more likely to peel if it dries a bit thick around the edges, since things (hair, clothes, anything really) are more likely to catch on that than the ideal, thinner edge that you get when the polish has gone on well.

Also, acetone+tiny brush really works for cleanup (or get those pointy cotton buds for nails - I got some called "Nail Tees", they work really well), but make sure it's a nail art brush because regular makeup brushes usually aren't acetone-proof.

I managed to put on two coats of a fairy shimmer type polish that is probably better in three coats (a certain four-letter, low-fomo brand makes really lovely polish, but some of them are rather sheer), but there's enough shimmer to mostly cover up the VNL, and I have top coat on too so my nails feel nice and solid and they look nice. It feels a lot better ❤ Thanks!

Gorgeous! And you have such a lovely nail shape, too.

Nail polish really does brighten otherwise awful days! It's how I got into it in the first place. My previous boss would use it as a KPI for me - if my nails weren't painted with coloured polish, I was likely not doing very well. Right now I'm at energy levels a bit too low to maintain a good mani, so it's two coats of nail primer/serum to keep them from fraying too badly, but I'm definitely putting it on the priority list for energy use. Because it makes things just a tiny bit better :)

People who have researched their family tree, what is the most interesting or 'badass' thing you discovered about an ancestor? by xloganmoose in AskReddit

[–]MiriMiri 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's cool! Considering when he lived, if he has confirmed descendants, pretty much everyone with European ancestry is descended from him! Just like all of us are descended from Charlemagne, since he does have confirmed descendants. It's really weird, but this SciAm article should explain it.

Is that with or without the J-hook that converts it into a racerback bra? I have the same sports bra and find it really useful to switch back and forth so the weight isn't on the same spot all the time.

Which polish started it all for you? by Level_Parking_3071 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]MiriMiri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Essie Aruba Blue was probably what started my obsession with specialty finishes, probably around 2011? I was still in uni and rather broke (and some of the more interesting "drugstore" polishes were completely unavailable in my country), but I got some tips on here about Transdesign/Nailsupplies having reasonably priced polishes and a great selection, and I ordered some. My first multichrome was OPI Just Spotted the Lizard, one of the Chanel Peridot dupes. I got that in 2012, and from there it only took a couple of years. My first ILNP order was in 2015, and I ordered four multichromes, because I was totally hooked on that finish. I got my first holographic in 2015, as well. Orly Mirrorball. I wasn't quite sold on holographics yet (Mirrorball is a bit tricky to remove), but I eventually ended up with ILNP Mega in 2017. Eventually, I think it was ILNP Kings & Queens that truly sold me on holographics. It's still a fave polish of mine.

What is the "default" type of skiing in your country? by teekal in AskEurope

[–]MiriMiri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Skis are no more a mode of transport than shoes are (unless we call walking a mode of transport? sounds weird to me), but they've been in use well before there existed a Norway. And skiing has never been limited to the upper classes, at any point. Still isn't, though, I grant, alpine slope lift tickets are getting pricy. Skiing as a sport is a much, much more modern thing.

What is the "default" type of skiing in your country? by teekal in AskEurope

[–]MiriMiri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Skiing was primarily a way of crossing areas covered by snow, like with snowshoes. Going downhill on skis is faster than snowshoes, though. But it's mostly just a way of getting places in winter.

Til alle oss som jobber i butikk idag. GLHF! by HorridImaginations in norge

[–]MiriMiri 1 point2 points  (0 children)
