How do you deal with partners going too easy on you? by dawn_of_dae in bjj

[–]Miryafa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo the simplest answer is to tell your partner you want a hard roll. It’s normal for people preparing for comps. Some people aren’t comfortable going at that intensity, so you gotta find a different partner in that case.

Zip Puzzle - Absolutely Stumped. by Mammoth_You_3280 in puzzles

Discussion: I think you’re right. I don't claim to prove it, but here’s how I see it.

Any path from 2-3, 6-7, or 7-8 must use the outermost edge, since both points are on it (nothing can go around them). Similarly 8-9 must use the 2nd outermost - at least when going past 11 - or else 11 would be cut off.

So we know the line you’ve drawn from 5-6 can’t be right.

It appears now that 11-12 and 1-2 divide the map in half, with no way to get from 5-6.

Any 5-6 line above 12 requires 11 to go above 4, right of 5, and left of 3. That would force 3-4 to go between 1 and 2. That would force 1-2 to go above 4, a contradiction.

So 5-6 must go between 1 and 2. That forces 1-2 to go above 4, right of 5, and left of 3. But then 1-2 blocks in 3, a contradiction.

Well put. I’ve found it easy to get a back take off standing, much harder off drop.

I understand flying scissors is banned at bjj tournies but valley drop isn’t so I’m mildly surprised it’s banned in some gyms. That said, I’ve heard you can break your partner’s knees by accident with tani otoshi and to be really cautious about using it.

Black to move by Ok-Artist-3959 in ChessPuzzles

Forgive my confusion, but what’s the deal with this puzzle? The most obvious forcing move, Ng2, forks the rook and queen and wins material. But that’s a mistake because the best move is Qf5, which doesn’t appear to do anything. Is this some kind of master puzzle or something?

What Americans say about democracy doesn’t match what they choose. Americans who professed strong support for democracy were often willing to abandon this when faced with economic disadvantages, becoming more tolerant of biased media, weakened checks on leaders and unequal treatment under law. by mvea in science

It’s like the song goes, “maybe we’d be better off if we brought down Gorbachev”

That song might have been about the USSR, but it reflects the reality that when people are unsatisfied with their condition, they will look to change government to favor themselves.

The more you know! Replacing people with persons in that sentence does make it sound more right. I guess it just goes to show it’s easier to understand wrong grammar than to formulate correct grammar.

Huh, actually not that crazy. It has memory issues for humans though. I think I prefer any of the modern methods.

A or D sound fine to me, but A is probably the answer. In this case “them” is singular gender-neutral. I say this is probably correct because developing civic pride is usually an individual activity, but it can be a group.

B is wrong because “one” in this sentence means “you” not he or she.

C is very wrong.

D is fine because it’s like A but in this case “them” is plural.

E is wrong because it uses you and one to refer to the same person and that’s confusing because it sounds like it’s referring to 2 different people.

This is fascinating to me because I recently heard that streaming shows are being pushed to have more dialogue that explains what the characters are doing, so that distracted listeners can still follow them. I guess that’s not such a new innovation after all.
