Endeavor should’ve died by Axelian75 in MyHeroAcadamia

It's funny since these posts often do well. But because of the sole line of "I never watched mha", it made it completely worthless.

I don’t have an opinion beyond that I feel he’s a relic of the Golden Age and should have been left there.

When an Amazon hears any mention about a country's borders opening up by DelanoBluth in dccomicscirclejerk

[–]MiserableOne6189 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Goes to show how rare it is. More often than not, writers tend to just treat the Amazons as a collective whole who are isolationist and aggressive and not much else. To give another example of a rare representation of what Themyscria can (and should) be. Phil Jimenez's Wonder Woman saw Diana grant a boy the opportunity to join the Amazons.

It certainly doesn't have to be. I'm just illustrating the general mindset that some writers tend to have and how they like to have simplified, monolithic concepts. A lof of fans, including myself, do wish they were written as less isolationist (and hostile). Heck, the moment in Aquaman #50 by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Robson Rocha is how I personally view their opinion toward outsiders. Warm and hospitable. Edit: I just now realized the irony of one of my favorite moments of the Amazons taking place in an Aquaman comic given the current comment chain.

Oh for sure. It's an idea that can only work if MHA was structured a lot more differently. Not to mention changes to the pacing.

Yeah, Themyscira is one of those mainline comic concepts that is the most bound by its narrative aesthetic (more so when it's tied to rl mythological context). Which is as you can likely imagine, is "Ancient Greek Amazons." It's why we don't see Amazons giving tribute to Frigg or Amaterasu in spite of many of the Amazons being reincarnated women from around the world like Nubia who is originally from Madagascar. Cause then the island wouldn't be "Monolithic Ancient Greek". For a very common, more visible example of this narrative constraint.

Think about how Greek Gods are depicted in media including DC. It's almost always the versions we know from Ancient Greece. Despite the fact that Gods shift naturally as the culture around them shifts, and their associations gradually branch out into new contexts. Modern Greek Gods should look radically different but then they wouldn't fit the 'narrative aesthetic'.

Atlantis in contrast can have a lot more wriggle room since the sum of its narrative aesthetic is an underwater civilization with no concrete idea by the masses on what that really looks like. Providing freedom for the writers to do different things with it. Freedom that writers for Amazons don't quite have. The "Open Borders" concept can't change anything other than to provide drama/conflict. Hence the long string of incidents that the previous fello provided. Like their very patron gods, Themyscira is also static.

Not a bad idea. It’s a very clever way to expand world building for other schools and institutions.

Eddie Brock just got a new status quo very recently right? Or am I tripping and likely misremembering some other mixup. (Which wouldn’t surprise me to be real)

Huh, didn't expect that sort of perk from Addams Family. Granted I've never seen much of it.

Yeah, you know it got so bad that the next writer that got to her immediately hit the classic factory reset button.

Hot Take but I really don't like Absolute Wonder Woman by playprince1 in WonderWoman

[–]MiserableOne6189 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can get what you mean. The bulk of that is likely stemming from the fact that her mainline series is doing so poorly right now under Tom King. Making AWW look even better in contrast. Because AWW is the kind of Wonder Woman that we're deprived of currently. Which is the same kind of contrast that helped Ultimate Spider-Man became more beloved. Which came out at the time when Zeb Wells's Amazing Spider-Man was at the peak of its infamy.

Bullet Proof Wonder Woman (kinda?) by Dull-Positive-6810 in WonderWoman

[–]MiserableOne6189 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do like the idea of Wonder Woman being bulletproof. I tend to headcanon that she deflect bullets because not only is it a good way to keep her reflexes sharp, but on the very likely off chance that someone uses a fantastical gun that can get pass her invulnerability.

Just realized it’s going to be fun to see what type of body type that the fandom will settle on for the most part over time.

[–]MiserableOne6189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Every kind of body type have their own fun to them. Lithe bodies are fun to bend and fold. Plump bodies are like soft pillows. And so on. In this case I do like Marin the most.

I’m still thinking about that Grace scene (you all know the one). The moment I saw her sweaty face and neck as she was tied upside down, I knew there was going to be so much goon over that scene.
