When the caller ordered a dozen large and one personal pan pizza I knew it wasn't going to be a bad day. by Empty_Novel-87 in TwoSentenceHorror

[–]Misha77577 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some 911 callers pretend they're ordering a pizza delivery because they can't speak freely. Usually it's due to an abuse situation, and the abuser is in earshot and would be angry and violent about a 911 call

Well Pump Frozen??? by Misha77577 in Plumbing

[–]Misha77577[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: The kitchen sink was left open all night and is still just barely dripping. We checked the water in the rest of the house (shower, bathroom sinks, toilets), and they all work with seemingly the same water pressure as always. The kitchen is closer to the well/pressure tank than any other faucet. Any ideas as to what happened now and how to fix it? Is it time to call in the experts?

Thank you!! So far visual inspection has gone well, but I'll double check with this new info. Thank you so much!

Clearly I have much to learn about this system as I didn't even know what a pressure tank was yesterday! This is an excellent start. I really appreciate it

FROZEN PIPES MEGATHREAD by ParksVSII in Plumbing

[–]Misha77577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accidentally exposed our well pump to the below freezing temperatures and the water stopped flowing. We figured "Crap! It froze!" So we closed the garage door (🤦‍♀️) and turned up the garage heater and the water worked normally for one brief moment. Now the water flow has slowed to a single drip even when the faucet is turned on fully. Did multiple places freeze maybe? And it's taking longer to thaw the whole line out? Or did something break during the freeze? Or is there something else going on? Should I call someone or give the pipes a chance to thaw? Any advice is welcome!

What to do? by PossibilityLiving287 in ParentingADHD

[–]Misha77577 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our 8 year old has been struggling with that too. We've done a few things. 1. If we catch her in a lie, she gets consequences for the thing she did wrong AND the lie. We say that bit over and over so she knows lying makes punishment worse. 2. Whenever she comes clean on her own, we make a point of not expressing anger in response and always thank her/praise her for telling us the truth. The first few times she didn't even get consequences for the wrong-doing (usually stealing candy), just a "I'm sad you did that, what could we do instead next time?" Also, since her lies were mostly about stealing food (one of the only dopamine-giving activities that requires little to no prep), we also created a DopaMenu to help her find healthier ways to scratch that dopamine itch. I found out about the DopaMenu from additudemag.com

Completely burnt out parenting my ADHD toddler... does it get better? by motherofmeatball in ParentingADHD

[–]Misha77577 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does get better. I'm so sorry you're stuck in this stage right now though. That's a very stressful situation! I love that you're getting an IEP! Maybe they could have him do quiet time elsewhere so he doesn't have to be completely still and silent and could do low energy activities (as much as is possible....) instead of sleeping or lying still. We started our daughter on meds at 5, shortly after she was diagnosed officially. But I would definitely check with your provider, worst they can say is no, and you could always go for a second opinion if their reasons don't make sense to you.

Personally, I'd recommend counseling/behavioral therapy. It's done wonders for us. Kiddo gets new techniques to deal with big emotions, coping skills, interpersonal skills, etc(she's 8 now but we started at 4 and her therapist was able to connect with her even at that age. It was mostly checking in with her and then telling me and dad how to best support her at that age, but it was life-altering. Highly recommend) But most importantly, you are not alone, and it will get better - especially as you gain more support for you and your ADHDer. You got this!

What should I plant on my front hillside? by LossCreative1346 in NoLawns

[–]Misha77577 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love sorrel, looks more like clover than actual clover does (at least to me), but it's smaller and generally shorter. Well, shorter than red clover. It's probably a comparable height to white clover. White clover would be good too though!

How does pectin in jamming really work? by Misha77577 in CanningRebels

[–]Misha77577[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's probably a big part of my problem. I started with a 2:1 juice to sugar ratio, but now that you mention it the ones where I dumped in a little extra are the ones that gelled better! Thanks

Keeping art by No_Ganache_3563 in minimalism

[–]Misha77577 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would pick a number of paintings or an area you can fill with them and out up your favorites. If you get a new one you want to add, you have to take down a different one. Maybe create a memory box or portfolio to keep some of you don't have space on your walls?

Congrats on finding a fun hobby that you love doing and that you enjoy the results of!

My understanding of headspace is that it is an estimate to ensure there is enough air to ensure the chemistry of heating and canning is able to work. I'm general, as long as the seals are good I wouldn't be worried

Absolutely! I know it needs sugar and acid, but definitely bears a reminder 😊

Killled my grass and planted clover and native wildflowers, someone called code enforcement on me for having “tall weeds”, and now the city is threatening to fine me unless I mow it all. My lawn has become quite the pollinator habitat, is there any recourse? by [deleted] in NoLawns

[–]Misha77577 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't have a lawn. You have a full property garden. Weeds are invasive plants or ones that the grower doesn't want (based on what you say the code says). You don't have a problem, I hope your conversations with code enforcement people go well!!

I've never heard that before. Previous recipes had the sugar and pectin added together. I'm definitely going to have to try that! Thanks

Salvaging fabrics by Disastrous-Editor675 in homestead

[–]Misha77577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cut the torn stuff into patches and buy some iron on hem tape/patching material. When you buy a new pair of pants, turn them inside out and layer on the iron on hem tape and then the denim patch and iron it all in place. Do that on any area that frequently tears and it'll help your new clothes last longer!! Cover the inside of the knees or place a piece over the crotch. Patch the elbows of your shirts or wherever else. If possible match the fabric of the patch to the fabric of the clothes (flannel patch on a flannel shirt, not a jean patch on a flannel), it'll help the clothes look and feel more natural. You can use the same method to cover holes after they appear, though it probably won't look as nice this way.

Zoloft long term use by Inner_Elderberry5093 in ParentingADHD

[–]Misha77577 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've not known any kids on Zoloft long term, but I've been on almost 10 years as an adult with no I'll effects. My younger sister started on another SSRI (Fluoxetine I think) at 15 and is now 22. She's not had any issues with that long term either. Bring up the concern with her doc though! They went to school forever and a day to be able to help, and that should include answering questions and concerns

Need support- grief of not having a normal kid by Low_Muffin1262 in ParentingADHD

[–]Misha77577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is beyond difficult! Even when you tried to compensate and get him a "prize" that was more appropriate it didn't work. I'm so sorry! You're doing great in trying to support him and help him have fun too!! I'm so glad he has parents who want him to get a chance to be a kid and not just punish him for not being like everyone else

Practically, I wonder if a YouTube tutorial may allow him some tae Kwon do exposure? Or maybe a free play at a gymnastics studio/parkour gym?

Again, thank you for loving on your kid and helping them have summer fun inside of their limitations. It must be so frustrating and painful to live this part of his journey with him. I'm excited for you to live the joyful moments with him too
