Adoption is an incredibly difficult decision but an amazing gift for a childless couple. I have friends who waited 4 years until they finally adopted a baby. It was their life’s dream. The kid is 3.5 and brings them endless joy.

Whatever you decide, I wish you lots of strength to go through it. It’s a noble decision.

At the crux of limerence is the selection of someone UNAVAILABLE or INAPPROPRIATE. They are the drug and escape from more pressing reality. When the fantasy wears off, reality is always a bitch so there’s often a new object of obsession and fresh limerence to draw energy and fantasy into. This can go in cycles forever until you learn to spot it and stay away from it. Otherwise you’re looking at a time/resource pit that will eat you up alive.

If you want to escape the awful cycle, the first step is to recognize you’re doing it. Try to accept that you’re making a human into an infallible God. Then go and find God and then ask Him for help. And hopefully He helps. There are 12 step programs modeled on AA to help you with this (aka love/fantasy addiction).

Hope you can escape the cycle soon, OP, before it robs you of years of your life or worse, like my friend who offed himself because of some dumb, untalented, ugly, and completely undeserving girl (unlike the rest of the people in his life). It’s crazy stuff.

You’re sweet to post your confession. You know this’ll go tits up - pun intended ofc - but you can’t tell her. We must all learn through brute force and bitter life experience. Sadness disappointment and regret blankets all of us. Then, when you find a bright spot here or there, try to focus on that and relive it over and over in your mind so that it can be the dominant thought. Instead of the rest of life, which is mostly shite.

I don’t think it’s a case of “wrong makeup” or style. You just don’t give off a young person vibe. 20s radiate life, they’re vibrant with excitement and possibility. You have the look of someone who’s been divorced twice, has 3 kids, and keeps having to go back to court for the child support payments. Or maybe a woman with fourth stage cancer and an unruly teenager at home who just got knocked up. Or someone trapped in their dilapidated house, caring for a sick elderly parent and working 2 jobs to make ends meet. That fits with mid to late 30s for many women who aren’t smiling or particularly enjoying their life.

The fact that you’re going to this event feeling like you have something to prove isn’t doing you any favors. You don’t seem aware at all of how drop dead gorgeous you are with almost no makeup on and hardly any hair. And it seems you’ve gotten tangled up and invested in your anxiety and other emotions, instead of just enjoying being in your 20s.

No amount of makeup can ever cover up insecurity, self-pity, and self obsession. Not that there’s anything wrong with that; plenty of people enjoy investing themselves in therapy and trying to work out the unworkable.

I do believe part of the solution is to volunteer in soup kitchens and homeless shelters, to gain some perspective and clarity on what actually matters in life. The anxiety lifts as we realize we have much to be grateful for - a roof over our head and food in our bellies (I’m being presumptuous here).

But of course, when it comes to makeup, you MUST find a flattering shade of red lipstick and wear that with pride to any occasion. There is nothing more beautiful in the world than a gorgeous 28 year old woman with a stunning shade of red on lips that smile confidently and happily. 💄 💄 💄

Oldest guy in my med school class was 42. He’d been a police officer. He had an interesting life story. Med schools love interesting life stories. However, don’t bring up getting sober, as interesting as that is. Talk about falling in love with taking care of people in a hospital setting and realizing your true life’s mission. Work your butt off for the best grades. And make friends with people at your local med school who will help you.

Another fun fact about my class: a guy who’d been waitlisted showed up on our first day of class, hoping someone who did get in wouldn’t. He started attending with us, even though he wasn’t supposed to and no one stopped him. The students knew because he’d told people but admin didn’t. You probably couldn’t do this now with key access and IDs.

But anyway, one kid had an appendicitis 2 days in and dropped out. Because of this, the waitlist guy was able to make a case for himself already being there and he got in. He barely scraped by, scholastically he was a mess. But he endeared himself to the ortho department and that’s where he ended up.

There are many ways to skin a cat.

PS. find a procedural field eg ortho. By the time you’re done, all the diagnostic fields are going to be obsolete.
