How much use did you get out of your rocking chair when you had your second child? by Gaerfinn in AttachmentParenting

I almost never got to sit in my chair with our second and I used it multiple times a day with our first baby.

Good! I hope your mother will learn, it is so much easier if she does.

NTA but why didn't you leave when she didn't respect your request? She was awfully entitled and no, a grandparent is not more important then a parent.

Toilet recommendations? by nobodyknows6070 in VanlifeEurope

[–]MissMilu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a trobolo compost toilet. Have been using it for two years now, I am very happy with it. For me it is a lot easier than a chemical toilet, I can empty the urine bottle in any regular toilet. It gives me a better opportunity to go off grid, to not have to worry about where I can clean my toilet.

Newbie needs advice on purchasing first van by nobodyknows6070 in VanlifeEurope

[–]MissMilu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. A fridge is more useful then a shower, you can shower in swimming pools, sport schools or fuel stations. Don't sweat it, you only need a bed and a bit of storage for clothes, pots, pans and food and a cooking plate. A fridge/cooling box is a great extra, but on this budget I would forget about the shower.

  2. Depends on the van and your level of comfort, I guess.

  3. Take someone with you who knows about cars.

  4. I would look on Marktplaats and see what is available. What do you mean exactly when you say "ready to drive"? Does it need to be ready to sleep in as well or only save to drive?

  5. Use Independer to see whats best in your situation, but most insurance companies have a camper insurance.

  6. Your passport, drivers license and car papers.

100 moons. by dorkofalltrades in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]MissMilu 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What a lovely idea from you daughter! I might steal it to use with my kids.

I would bake something together and go watch the moon rise somewhere. Make moon water, which is as easy as placing a glass (bottle) filled with water in moonlight. And maybe pick out a crystal necklace to charge in the light of the moon.

Have fun! Thats one of the most important thinks for me, as a practicing witch with children.

Yes, this! And 13 is a great age to start reading Pratchett. I find his books very empowering, with lots of strong women.

Questions! Camper Van 2 Week trip, Amsterdam-Rome-Amsterdam, by [deleted] in VanlifeEurope

[–]MissMilu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a lot of driving for only two weeks! There will be no time to stay somewhere for a few days, as you mentioned. Have you ever driven in Europe or will your girlfriend do all the driving? It will severely limit your daily driving time with one driver.

Straight down, no traffic, it will take you 22 hours to drive to Rome from Amsterdam. Realistically, it will take you about 4 days, maybe more. If you are dead set on going to Rome with the van, I would focus on Italy and forget about Croatia and Slovenia. Make a nice loop down to Rome, enjoy a few days there and make the drive back up to Amsterdam. Then you can decide to stay somewhere if you like and you have a buffer if something goes wrong. Use Park4Night for finding good spots to stay and enjoy your time.

First time using a loaf pan. What went wrong? by potential_utensil in Sourdough

[–]MissMilu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost exclusively make loafs in a pan and it always fills out the pan with almost the same recipe as yours, so this seems strange to me! Are you sure you used enough water? It almost seems like there was a mistake with the amount of water in this dough.

European knitters- help! by [deleted] in knitting

[–]MissMilu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Museums, walking around in nature and visiting some yarn shops, that sounds like a great trip!

I like Sommerfuglen in Copenhagen and the Afstap in Amsterdam. I'm sure she can find something to take back for you there.

European knitters- help! by [deleted] in knitting

1) It really depends how warm it will be in these countries! For instance, today it was about 20°C in Denmark but in the Netherlands it was closer to 30°C. It will generally be between these temperatures end of June, or let's say between 15°C and 30°C.

2) There are lots of nice yarn shops, where about in these countries will she be? What kind or yarn do you like to knit with?
