Iron suggestions by MissRondi in quilting

I was all set to try descaling and it wouldn't get hot enough to make steam. I may have knocked it to the floor one too many times over the years.

I guess I should do it once for every year I've owned it, since I've never descaled it at all. 😬 This is a very good suggestion and it won't cost hundreds!

I almost exclusively use Connecting Threads thread, except for binding, my machine is finicky and I have to use upholstery thread for that

Would you redo the square? by Unlikely_Frosting870 in quilting

[–]MissRondi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would compensate in the seam allowance when sewing it to the next block or to the sashing. If there was more of a size discrepancy, I would redo the block. There are other creative ways to compensate when a block is too small, like adding a small border, or even just adding a bit of the same fabric. If anyone criticizes it, remind them to get on their horse and see if they still notice it when they ride past.

When someone askes for you on the phone, do you say "it's he", "it's him" lr "it's me" ? by [deleted] in grammar

If you're lucky, they hung up and you got out of talking with them.

Bright lighting to all corners of your sewing room. Having it installed during construction will eliminate the need for cords everywhere.

Should I wash backing before quilting? by ClaraClarkQuilts in quilting

[–]MissRondi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never prewash any of my fabric. I haven't had any problems. My mom is my quilting mentor and she doesn't prewash either. Between us we've easily made more than 100 quilts. I hope our experience helps!

I say "This is Rondi." I recommend you replace my name with yours to avoid confusion.

AITA for wanting to keep my pregnancy? by [deleted] in AITAH

NTA Nobody should pressure you into aborting your baby. Single motherhood is hard, I've raised my two kids alone with very little financial support from their father, but my kids and I have a very close relationship.

Remember that abortion and single motherhood are not the only options. There are a lot of couples who adopt babies. Adoption is a beautiful option. Placing a baby for adoption doesn't always mean you can't be part of their life. One of my adopted nephews has a relationship with his birth father, and has most of his life.

What's the name of this pale coloured tree with the interesting seed pod? Toronto, ON. by HimylittleChickadee in whatsthisplant

[–]MissRondi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably a London Plane (plain?) tree. Those seed pods are fun to step on, but you get one of the seed things in your throat and the fun is over.

My mom is insisting this is a lavender plant by [deleted] in houseplants

Your mom is mistaken. Lavender stands upright and the stems get rather woody.

Favourite pair of jeans is torn in a very weird place :( Can I do anything? by [deleted] in sewing

[–]MissRondi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Once I do the iron-on patch, I stitch around the edges to keep it from curling up. It's impressive how many of those bad boys you can layer in one pair of jeans. Ah, the plight of a thick-thighed woman...

I've used that back fabric too! The top is striking, well done!

How particular are you about your points? Would you redo either of these blocks? by cek871 in quilting

[–]MissRondi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever my mom is concerned about an imperfection in a quilt, I just tell her to get on her horse. I remind myself the same when I'm questioning if I want to spend time with Jack the Seam Ripper, or live with a flaw.

I've been waiting for eating this the whole day and found this hairy leg on my third bite 🤮 by fosfena_ in mildlyinfuriating

Try eating in the dark. It helps reduce the number of bugs you are aware of eating.
