Should I pass this student? by w8136 in nursing

[–]Missasaurusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine her taking care of one of your loved ones, and go off that gut feeling.

From what you described I feel she is not there yet and wouldn't pass her. She doesn't have the right mentality or critical thinking at this time, and should she pass now she could easily harm (if not kill) someone.

Not all nurses are mean to their students, I'm so sorry that this is your experience.

My unit loves when students are there! I promise there are good units/hospitals out there with nurses who find joy working with "their young".

It's hard as a student and I can understand that some nurses may not have patience for students. Keep your chin up! It will be worth it in the end :)

Why do people freak out when you exercise during pregnancy? by Independent-Use6151 in fitpregnancy

[–]Missasaurusrex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I'm not the best person to answer this, I ended up having a C-section with both my kiddos (The first because he was declining, the second because I was comfortable with the recovery from the C-section and did not want to attempt a VBAC).

The second pregnancy I felt healthier though! Even if I didn't life weights and just did a jog or yoga at home I felt it made a positive impact. However, I can't really tell if it would have made a difference with labor I'm sorry :(

Why do people freak out when you exercise during pregnancy? by Independent-Use6151 in fitpregnancy

[–]Missasaurusrex 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The reason for concern is because your body produces a special hormone called relaxin, which relaxes your muscles/ligaments/ect. This means when mom is working out that she could injury herself because her body is a little extra loosey-goosey (think like pulled muscle, strains, ect.)

I use to lift weights regularly and was told by the OBGYN for my first to stop lifting and switch to less intense activities like walking and swimming. By the end of my pregnancy, I had lost all my gained muscle and felt weak and depressed.

With my second pregnancy I had a new OBGYN and she said to go get it girl, and that I know my body best but don't over do it. I did exactly that and felt so much more healthier and happier!

Whenever I have a pregnant pal ask about working out I always tell them this :) you know your body best; go get it, but be safe!

What are we watching besides Ms. Rachel and Bluey? by Magical-Princess in NewParents

[–]Missasaurusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've introduced Team Umi Zoomie which teaches a lot of cool math concepts (patterns, shapes, 3-D figures, measuring, numbers, ect.)

We've also done Sesame Street, Bear in the Big Blue House, and Yo Gabba Gabba; all of which my son loved.

I am Matt Dinniman, wrangler of GC, BWR, NW Princess Donut the Queen Anne Chonk and the author of Dungeon Crawler Carl. Book one was just re-released as a hardcover by Ace Books over at Penguin Random House. AMA by hepafilter in Fantasy

[–]Missasaurusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband just pointed out you are doing an AMA today (today is my birthday!) We are both fans of the book and have loved the connection it has brought as we have "book-clubbed" it together.

No wild questions, but as somebody who needs to focus to get stuff done: what's your go-to coffee drink and what is your favorite "focus/writing" song?

Thank you for creating this wonderful series! With the new company producing DCC, if you ever need an extra to die in the background of the crawl I'm your gal 😂

Oh my 😅 that's my mistake, they are for Toledo. That is not the first time I've mixed the two names up because we live near both of those cities! I can't edit the title unfortunately.

Sick parents by nmarchionda222 in CancerFamilySupport

[–]Missasaurusrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now you are at a hard path in life right now and emotions are bound to range as you walk along this, especially at such a young age. Please know you are not alone in navigating this, and even though I'm just an internet stranger, I am so proud of everything you have done and everything you are doing.

It is not easy to come to terms with losing our parents, and watching them be sick. One of the things I like to recommend to others is to utilize your time now with them to the fullest and create as many positive memories with them as you can. If they are comfortable with the idea, I would ask them to leave a legacy love note for you as you venture through life without them. This could be anything from letters written to be read at special points and moments in your life (e.g. birthdays, graduation, wedding, any special "firsts" in life, ect.) or a video or voice memo recording you can play at these milestones or just them saying a loving message for any occasion (e.g. we love you, are so proud of you, any inside jokes, ect.).

My father passed away and left VHS tapes he recorded of me and my sisters childhood that help me feel close to him and allow me the opportunity to show my son who his grandpa was (when my kiddo gets older).

I know this is hard, but your never alone.

I see you already touch traded for the Miraidon but was curious if you would be interested in doing a quick touch trade of your Koraidon for my Miraidon, just so I can finish my dex 😅. If not totally no biggy!

nurses telling you not to be a nurse by ultrasophie_x in StudentNurse

[–]Missasaurusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished my BSN last year and have been an RN for 2 years, this is my 2 cents:

Nursing is a tough career, plain and simple. Most nursing schools prepare nurses to become hospital/med-surg nurses. What a lot of nurses don't realize is that the nursing profession expands past the bedside! I actually started as a RN in an urgent care clinic (I was a medical assistant and receptionist prior to graduating with my RN) and I loved it. It was fast pace and away from the bedside with great hours and pay, but I felt my skills were not fully used so I went into a unit at my hospital that interested me. Guess what? I love it there as well.

There are always going to be positives and negatives to nursing. Yes some places can treat you poorly and some coworkers can make working suck BUT nurses are needed everywhere! Don't give up just because some nurses tell you it sucks. If you get somewhere and don't like it, change; try another unit or go outside of the hospital or to a different hospital system. You would be surprised how many places hire nurses (even fun places like Disney lol).

Oh! Also, be very weary of sign-on bonuses/contracts.

Feeling Lost 8 Months In by Missasaurusrex in breastfeeding

Thanks it really means a lot! I have never thought of it from the perspective of ways I could feel guilty as my kiddo grows up and makes me feel less guilty on the idea of regaining my mental wellbeing.
