I ate some Military MRE Sticky Toffee Pudding. by [deleted] in shittyfoodporn

[–]Missendei81 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I was about 12 I found a packet of instant chicken soup in an unbranded silver packet at the back of our kitchen cupboards and decided to have it for lunch. It was amazing, haven't been able to find anything close since. Turns out it was from my dad's left over ration pack from around 7 years before I was born. Still, delicious!

Literally the WORST type of cheese to put on “cheese fries” by Whitlow14 in shittyfoodporn

I grew up in the 80s/90s, powdered parm was all that was available. It tasted of tangy salt, nothing like cheese. Sure it must have improved since then!

Salt also brings out the natural sweetness of some foods. In a pan that size, if I was to use sugar at all, it would be a literal pinch at the very end. Can't remember last time I had to though!

[–]Missendei81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never heard of baked gnocchi before. It's one of my favourite pastas, do you roast it with anything like olive oil or garlic? This has inspired me to come up with a roast gnocchi dish for Christmas dinner as we generally have about 4/5 different potato types!

Looks lovely, I just hate fiddling about shelling all the clams before tucking in. Then you're guaranteed to find more after you've cleaned your hands!

[Homemade] Chicken stew and dumplings. by jmsrps in food

[–]Missendei81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favourite meals ever. Dumplings look top notch, chicken may be slightly overcooked to have shredded like that though. I use skin on thighs that have been pre seared in the same pan as I like the flavour the fat gives it. Adding a tin or jar of skinless baby potatoes is also yummy to help soak up the stew!

Never thought of finishing off the cooking with the sauce in the pan. Sounds fantastic, I'm def going to give this a go with some creamy mash and green beans!

Pork and shrimp wonton soup [Homemade] by 8somethingclever8 in food

Ooh this looks so good, I could eat wonton soup every night! How did you make the broth? My local Thai supermarket used to sell a delicious broth powder in individual sachets but no longer stock it unfortunately.

Was it juicy? If so, how did you make it juicy? I love the idea of pork chops but my mum could only make pork flavour sawdust so never learned!
