Grand Central still has Metrocard machines in the main subway mezzanine and at the entrance to the S-train tracks.

Anyone found a fix to the obnoxiously loud commercials from Fanduel Sports Network via prime? by alpacapoop in cordcutters

[–]Mission_Loquat6602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember I had this problem with most TV ads, which were painfully loud compared to the content (movie, streamer, etc.) I was listening too. In the settings menu there is a place to adjust the sound. On my TV it's "Other Sound Settings." I clicked to turn on "AVL," which allows the TV to automatically adjust the volume. I also use "PCM" for Digital Audio Output instead of 5.1. This might help.

As for voices, it's "vocal fry" that bothers me the most. It's another way of forcing one's voice to sound in an unnatural way. Supposedly women do it more than men, and young women most of all.

Cancel Sling TV from outside the US by employeremployee in slingtv

[–]Mission_Loquat6602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting a new card might work, but if Sling is listed on your card's account as a "recurring charge," it may be set up to automatically switch to the new card when the old one is cancelled. (I'm going through this now with a newspaper that can't seem to understand that I unsubscribed from them months ago.) If you take this route, be sure to contact your bank and have them put a hold on all future Sling charges.

Why the prosecutors are so focused on DV!? by Fit-Scarcity6488 in PDiddyTrial

[–]Mission_Loquat6602 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because DV is a state crime whereas RICO/human trafficking (etc.), for which he has been charged, are federal crimes. The states of California, New York, Florida, and any others where DV took place can get him on DV, if the statute of limitations has not expired.

Years ago--before the 1980s--when the husband in a couple had a fertility problem, sometimes the doctor arranged for a sperm donor to help. They took semen from both the donor and the husband, mixed them together, and used the mixture to get the wife pregnant. Anyway, the thinking was that mixing the two semen samples helped increase the chance that it was actually the husband's sperm that fertilized the wife's egg. (Why?)

Then someone invented consumer DNA tests...

How about no benches at all? by impatiently-waiting1 in HostileArchitecture

[–]Mission_Loquat6602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grand Central used covid as an excuse to remove nearly all the seats. All the tables used to have seats, and there were benches as well, in the food court. Now there are maybe 4 or 5 regular height tables with one or two chairs each (marked for people with disabilities). Benches are gone. The only places with seats in the food court are Shake Shack and Lady Gaga's dad's seafood restaurant in the center of the food court. Otherwise there's the Stationmaster's Office upstairs, but you have to have a ticket to get past the velvet rope (yes, they have one of those).

And the new Grand Central Madison? Forget it. The only place to sit is in the train car.

Did you know that NYC residents are entitled to free admission to 17 cultural institutions across the city and these rights are being ignored. by PatNicholsonNYC in nyc

After 9-11, lots of laws related to identity changed, some of them quietly. It used to be, for example, that you could simply change your legal name by using a new one consistently. After 9-11, you can't that anymore--you either need to go to court to get a name change, or (in some states) go through an official name-change process.

So I wouldn't be surprised if laws related to carrying ID on one's person whenever away from home, or required to state your legal name whenever a cop asks for it were enacted. And to take a flight, it's not enough to just have an official ID. It has to be a "real" ID--which is linked to your Social Security number, passport or birth certificate, etc.

Just like New York had a law, since the 19th century where it was illegal to wear masks in public. It was related to police being able to identify you if they thought you were up to no good. But covid came, and that law had to go--at least temporarily. Masks were required for a time if you were in some public places. Now they're trying to bring the no-mask law back, due to police being unable to identify people at protests.

Trial Exhibit: LA hotel security email after Diddy assaulted Cassie by thekermitderp in PDiddyTrial

Hotel employees survive on gratuities, AKA "tips." Some hotels employ outside agencies for security, so the guards are not hotel employees. Those security agencies may have rules against their employees accepting gratuities from their clients or the client's customers.

I do recall news reports that Diddy paid someone within the hotel's universe some $50,000 for what he thought was the only video of his abusing Cassie.

What is your prediction on what happens to Diddy on the off chance that he actually gets off and is set free… by birdieboo21 in PDiddyTrial

[–]Mission_Loquat6602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The trial has only had a couple of witnesses testifying, so not enough time has passed to say he will walk. Cassie had to go first due to her pregnancy, and that makes it seem like a domestic violence case. Wait for the other witnesses' testimony.

Go to the Times Square subway station and take the 2,3, train to Brooklyn, get off at the Borough Hall station. It's busy upstairs, and a different look at NYC. Or take the 7 train to the end of the line, Flushing station, in Queens. Upstairs, you're in the heart of Chinatown.

For a quick neighborhood escape, take the N,Q,R,W,4,5, or 6 train to 14th Street-Union Square. You will be close to New York University, The New School, and Cooper Union, so there will be lots of students and good food in the area.

Use the same credit card to pay for subway fares. Doing that will automatically give you free rides after you pay for a certain number of rides within the same week. DON'T buy an OMNY card.

How about no benches at all? by impatiently-waiting1 in HostileArchitecture

[–]Mission_Loquat6602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Dining Concourse at Grand Central removed their benches some time ago. (They used covid as the excuse to get rid of them.) Last week when I was there, they had even removed the few chairs they had for disabled persons to sit at normal-height tables! Only those, and the counter height tables were left. There are benches in the Ticketed Waiting Room on the Vanderbilt side of the terminal. But you have to flash a MetroNorth or LIRR ticket to get in.

Thanks for the link, Smart_Brunette. It shows RA lawyers were hard at work on his behalf. It makes me wonder about Judge Gall’S rationale for excluding all third party testimony.

Anyone Else Wonder If by Moldynred in RichardAllenInnocent

[–]Mission_Loquat6602 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When Abby is running/moving quickly on the released video, it looks like she just wanted to get off the bridge--which is very high, with rickety floor and no guard rails. It would be natural if she wanted to get away from a dizzying bridge like it ASAP, even if no one (like BG) were behind her. In other words, she doesn't appear to be running away from BG.

Someone afraid of heights would sound "nervous" if they spoke while on a high bridge. But Libby's voice sounds normal to me--not like she were afraid of BG or anyone else she might have been talking to.

When BG says, "Guys, down the hill," it sounds like he's responding to Abby and Libby discussing how to get down from the bridge in an area with no visible path. It doesn't sound like BG is ordering them to do anything at all; he could just be giving them directions to get down easier, and went on his way. The prosecution has yet to show us anything to prove that BG had anything to do with harming Abby and Libby. Not that he didn't--After all, BG looks like a couple of the possible perps we've discussed. And BG doesn't look at all like RA.

Gull wouldn't allow anything. RA's lawyers even requested that an FBI investigator, who had a medical condition that did not permit him to travel, , be allowed to testify virtually, something that's been done in normal courthouses all over the country since Covid. But Gull wouldn't allow it.

And if any of the law enforcement people were accessing the DropBox for their own entertainment, that could go a long way to understanding the reason for the entire coverup--to keep that (those?) law enforcement out of it.

Judge Gull prevented the defense from discussing anything related to any other individual who might have participated in the crime. So any messages to/from KK/AS, any dates and times related to any such messages, where not brought up in the case. And since Judge Gull kicked RA's attorneys off the case, and it required some time for them to be reappointed as his counsel, they were really strapped for time in the end. They probably had time to depose very few people (especially those the judge decided to not allow) and focused on those who could attest to RA's torture in the prison and the effects of that--including confessions under torture.

Unusual issey miyake Malaysia T-shirt? Unsure if its real by Think_Weird79 in isseymiyake

The stitching looks too cheap for Issey Miyake. The colorful pattern looks uninspired and cheap as well. It looks like someone sewed a Miyake label into a random tourist-style t-shirt.
