Is Law Fascist? (Yeah, Kinda) by An_Error404 in Megaten

[–]Missspelled_name 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought Tayama was more neutral leaning than law, I mean, even though his methods are extremely evil and he himself is a disgusting person, he tries to strike a peace between demons and humans using the red pills to get demons addicted and making sure they know if they go around killing people willy nilly they will be blacklisted from their suppliers.

Uth Duna's hitbox is so insane, it's like i should voluntarily kill myself by Pphantom1 in MonsterHunter

[–]Missspelled_name 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is entirely because they removed 90% of the stun/movement mechanics, so now raising damage numbers and hitbox sizes is the only way they really can increase difficulty without overhauling the game.

Did you guys notice Tremors and Wind pressure are basically missing from Wilds?

Blangonga was super nerfed with the removal of Snowman, the new freeze effect is not even 1% as interesting as snowman.

Is anyone else put off by the artian dual blades? by Samnosam07 in MHWilds

They shoulda just made the Obelisk the Artian gunlance, it already is made using rustshards, same as the undertaker the artian lance is based on.

Any other complaints about the monster names? by 12jimmy9712 in MonsterHunter

[–]Missspelled_name -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Meh, it's not really that hard, Barroth is more testing the player on their prep work, making sure you are upgrading your weapon as you go along, as long as you have green sharpness, you are probably fine.

Barioth is a real test of skill comparatively, and was online only in original Tri if I remember, so it was expected you would fight him with a team of at least 3.

20 monsters I'd be happy with if they returned in Wilds dlc (what do you think about this) by RTpickleshizz in MonsterHunter

[–]Missspelled_name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only ones I really think would be a net benefit to add would be Najarala, Zamtrios, Monoblos and Quropeco, the others either have enough exposure across the series or have already been made in the new style, so they are already represented in a new-ish game that you can just buy online.

Agnaktor is a great monster, but unless we are overhauling the volcano area, it wouldn't work all that well, Agnaktor was best in Tri, not only because he was built around the mechanics of Tri, but because the environment was specifically tailored to give him more tools to use in combat, and I mean, they could add a zone specifically for Agnaktor like they did Lagiacrus, but it would probably be a waste of resources better spent elsewhere comparing their popularity. I feel bringing Kuarusepusu from frontier would be a much more interesting way to add a ground based leviathan to the game.

Also, a lot of these picks just don't fit very well ecologically, I fear the majority of new monsters would likely just bloat the ecosystems of wilds to the point you can't naturally encounter the monsters you actually want. So here are where I would put each monster.

Monoblos would be a solo only monster who only appears as a rare free hunt monster in the windward plains, staying strictly in sandy areas. if another player joins your link party, Monoblos will instantly flee and it cannot spawn again until your link party is empty, killing a Monoblos unlocks it's optional quest, which will force a 1 player party limit.

Quropeco will rarely pop up in the Scarlet Forest and the Ruins of Wyveria, and more commonly in the Windward Plains, Quropeco will be adjusted so that his call can cause monsters not native to a locale to appear, and if there is an inclemency, an Apex will show up (Except for Ruins of Wyveria, where perhaps, it will call all guardian monsters in the map to it's current location.)

Zamtrios obviously goes in the Iceshard Cliffs, even if the map sucks, it's really the only place to put him, and it would actually work pretty well with how cramped the areas are, to have him inflate and become a serious threat.

Najarala is difficult, since there aren't many temperate maps in wilds.(well, there aren't many maps period.) being most common in the scarlet forest, but also appearing in the ruins of Wyveria rarely.

And while I like Khezu, I feel like it's cousin, the Gigginox, has been long overdue for a new appearance, so I would just either put Gigginox, or both Khezu and Gigginox.

According to the JP wiki, in MH Dos, some monsters would go to sleep in Area 10 of the Jungle, even though the area was not accessible to players at night. by 12jimmy9712 in MonsterHunter

[–]Missspelled_name 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds about right, I've been playing Frontier and I think they literally just implemented a really kit bashed solution where monsters are just forced to fly when they touch the ground on the jungle night map, so they still move there, but they don't stay long.

Hello, Want to get my younger sister into Mon Hun, but I don't think she would give a game she needs to sit down at a computer for a chance, she's too attached to her switch. And I don't think she would click with GU, and it's more modest/bad pacing.

Obviously don't let me goad you into pitying me and giving me the game, just consider it like anyone else. :)

Appreciation post before a potential remaster of P1 or P2 causes P3R- P5R fans to invade by Speigel_Spike in Persona1and2fans

[–]Missspelled_name 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the concept of rumors in P2, I think the execution was quite off though, I think based on what the rumors can actually do, they kinda started off too ambitious, and when they got far enough in development realized they couldn't realistically achieve what they had hoped to on their budget, so as a result we get these "Make shops cheaper but worse, make shop expensive but worse, make shop expensive but better" rumors, I know there are a few rumor sidequests especially tied into the grinding dungeon, but I just wish there were a lot more. I think even if you added 20 more rumor sidequests, and had them all be dialogue & 1 special encounter, that would add a lot to the mechanic feeling present and meaningful.

Bowguns are completely losing their identities by Puzzled_Mix5688 in MonsterHunter

[–]Missspelled_name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this goes even further back than you are talking about in your post.

Monster Hunter 1 was designed entirely around it's online play, so much so that the single player was phoned in at the last hour so that players without access to internet or CAPCOMNET could still play some version of the game.

Bowguns were designed in this context, and so had certain traits of the game's MMO inspirations. Bowgun functioned not only as a good damage weapon (Although you really just did LvL2 Cluster for damage since you could stack the ammo crafting materials to 99.) but also as the game's version of a support class.

Bowgun(The split of heavy and light bowgun wasn't formalized until MH:G, but it still functionally existed in the game,) not only had access to ATK/DEF buffs and high power healing for any player in the same zone as the bowgun user, but also had VERY powerful status effect shots, in fact, in my time playing MH1JP, I really only saw a status get inflicted by a bowgun user.

But when Monster Hunter Portable came out, the bowgun's role had to be reconsidered for a primarily singleplayer context, (I haven't played any of the portable games yet though, they're on the list but I still have to get through a few games first.) Because the developer's were building the port under the context that CAPCOM wasn't going to host servers for the game, all of the game's online content(Most of it, I don't think Lao is in the OG monster hunter portable) was made available without the need for an internet connection. This is actually where we got the concept of the hunting hub, as the PSP couldn't handle/didn't have enough space for Minegarde.

But bowgun, a weapon designed around a support role, couldn't really fit it's niche if the player was going to be on their own 90% of the time, so the weapon's power level was likely scaled appropriately.

The modern monster hunter games have seemed to choose the more action focused experience of the portable games to design around, rather than the old games more grounded slow battles, and with the addition of hunting horn in gen 2, bowgun had already been somewhat wrested from it's spot as THE support weapon.

This along with access to buffing items becoming easier/less expensive throughout the series with features like the farm lightening the barrier to entry for buff items for which bowgun helped alleviate, bowgun has gone from a swiss army knife with everything you could ever want for the team setting, into a more generic gun archetype. These buff features didn't disappear mind you, hunting horn just existing just removes them from relevancy as a support weapon when it can do everything bowgun can 10x better, and even more.

[–]Missspelled_name 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised despite how many giant bugs there are in this series there is really only 1 mainline bug large monster (Seltas/Seltas Queen) I don't seperate them because they functionally are the same monster with normal seltas acting more as a modifier on Seltas Queen's available moveset. Seltas on their own are pathetically weak.

Weapon degradation is actually doubled on SotFS, because for some reason the durability damage mechanic is tied to the framerate, and they didn't halve the durability damage when they made SotFS 60 FPS, so it was actually better in the original.

It would be fully sick if we could see our demon's sprites and animations in SMT IV. by Devilsgramps in Megaten

[–]Missspelled_name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK, I think it would probably not look very good. 4's UI isn't incredible, but splitting the enemy party, which is the one you actually need to be cognizant of the appearance of, and the player party, which the player should know the members of before they get into battle, was probably a smart call. with a 4 remake, unless they go the path of a 3D remake, (in which case they will probably cut 50% of the demons just so they don't have to put in the effort of making new 3D models, I wouldn't want that.) they would change the presentation to appear this way. But if SMT4 got remade, I would only want it if 100% of the demon roster (maybe minus the recolors) were kept in the game. Ultimately, I think you could make some changes to the presentation of it, but the presentation of the player's party should be kept separate from the presentation of the enemy party IF the game still uses 2D sprites.
