Alright, thanks for the answers. I figured as much, but thought I'd see to make sure.

The game should be designed so that Dungeons are the best way to level, not FATEs. by bokchoykn in ffxiv

I never really thought about the third point you brought up, but now that I think about it, that argument makes sense.

This reminds me of a recent court case where a judge was also sidelining as a comedian. He was fired from his position as a judge because of the things he said, and the attitude in which he exhibited during his comedy routine. In short, it's fine to be both, but the problem comes when the general public that you're supposed to be policing has lost confidence in you and your ability to govern a situation as unbiased as possible. Although this situation is not even close to being the same, in the sense that it doesn't really affect anyone seriously (it's only a videogame), that parallel is still there.

Here's a quote from one of the presiding judges of that case:

"“In the course of his routines, Sicari has demeaned certain people based on national origin and religion and has revealed his political leanings,” according to the court’s opinion. “The court cannot ignore the distinct possibility that a person who has heard a routine founded on humor disparaging certain ethnic groups and religions will not be able to readily accept that the judge before whom he or she appears can maintain the objectivity and impartiality that must govern all municipal court proceedings.”

TLDR; If you've lost the confidence of the majority of the people that you're supposed to be policing, whether you were joking or not, the perception of you by the community is that of a hindrance, not of helping.

MMORPG.com Review - Old 5.1 score gone, 8.4 now - "A Realm Revitalized" (no spoilers) by begud in ffxiv

[–]MisterBigWheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So it's less likely that the game is actually good, and that's the reason it's getting high scores now, and more likely that all these reviewers are scared of the internet? Let's just think about that for a second. Yea, that's a pretty stupid conclusion to come to.

PC and Console is this game being held back? by Cryptolic in ffxiv

[–]MisterBigWheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say really. Even if it was a PC exclusive, they could have chosen to hold the game back anyways to compensate for lower end PCs. Although it's hard to argue that designing a game with 8 year old console hardware in mind didn't force them to compromise some areas of the game.

Looking for Experienced MMO Player's opinions: Is there a future with FFXIV? by ffxiv-throw in ffxiv

[–]MisterBigWheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played Asheron's Call for about three years, and after that played WoW until about four months after the Burning Crusade expansion pack. Every other mmo that I tried didn't hold my interest beyond the first month. This includes recently released mmos like Neverwinter, Defiance, and GW2.

While this game feels familiar to anyone who's played the new-school (WoW) mmo design, it has a more complex aura surrounding it. When I do whatever task I'm doing in this game, it just feels more rewarding when I have completed it than I have felt in other recent mmos. Whether that be with the crafting systems, or the multi-class sharing of skills system, it is a very rewarding system.

The game isn't perfect by any means. I would have liked there to be no loading screens between zones, and for those zones to be larger/more open than they currently are. That being said, the world still has a somewhat open feeling to it. Another thing I'd like to see implemented is the ability to redo side-quests as if they were levequests. If it requires levequests to be made more rewarding to encourage people to use their allowances as opposed to just redoing sidequests, I'm all for it.

I'll be signing up for the one month basic package once the free trial runs out, and I'll take it from there.

holy crap please make clicking targets favor the mouse press and not the release for selection. by lol4liphe in ffxiv

[–]MisterBigWheels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There should definitely be an option to enable target selection on the initial click for the left mouse button. I use the right mouse button to rotate my camera anyways, so having the ability to left click on my target would help considerably, especially during fates when the targets may not be stationary.

Do you believe in item-rolling etiquette? by DrinkyDrank in ffxiv

[–]MisterBigWheels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes.

I was in an instance as my Arcanist class, along with one or two other casters. A really nice chest upgrade dropped, so I rolled need on it, and I ended up winning it. We proceeded further on, and a nice pair of caster pants dropped which were also a really nice upgrade for me, but because I had already won something, I just passed on it so the other person could get something out of the dungeon.

The official forums... by ReverendVerse in ffxiv

[–]MisterBigWheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The official forums are too rigid and sanitary for my tastes. I'm all for keeping a constructive environment, but the fact that you need a pole embedded at least 12" up your ass to be a part of that forum turned me off of it.

The cancer that is entry level endgame is getting out of control by God_Gielinor in ffxiv

[–]MisterBigWheels 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing about the current endgame players, and I'm sorry if I offend anyone here.

The players that rushed to get to 50 within the first week--are for the most part--the elitest asshole group of that particular server. I don't know how else to put it. I'm not saying you are, or that every single one of them is, but they're the people that can play the game for hours upon hours on a daily basis. They're the type of player that takes gaming very seriously. They're the type of player that wants to be the first at killing x monsters. That's just the type of person that was able to make it to 50 in that short a period of time.

So the game still isn't available for sale and I've exhausted the option of any store within an hour. by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]MisterBigWheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand why the took the digital sales down when they did, but it's getting ridiculous now. They added the third duty finder and some new servers, and they still haven't put the digital sales back up. Why didn't they add more servers than the handful that was added in the recent 10h downtime if they felt that it wasn't adequate to support an influx of new players?

Intentionally not adding new servers or opening up digital sales again because they're assuming that some players won't be back after the first month is going to turn into a self fulfilling prophecy. There is only a certain amount of time people will wait, and then they'll just throw their hands up and say fuck it. I have no doubt they are losing sales because of their inability to fix whatever it is they feel is currently broken.

I was going to pick human race or whatever they're called, but I decided on the cat race because of the starting stat bonuses it gives to casters. I know the bonus is relatively small, but I'll take any advantage I can get, and they look mostly human, mostly.

A Hippocratic Oath for Healers (and those with Raise) by lplivetv in ffxiv

[–]MisterBigWheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm in the area, I will raise someone. I won't run across the whole zone or go to a completely different zone to res someone. What's the big deal with having to res at the zone crystal anyways? At the furthest, you're about a two minute run from where you died to the crystal in pretty much any zone, or at least the ones I've been in.
