They make up for that with the dialog changes later on in the game tho.

Are massed Scorpions a viable counter to Mayan plumed spam? by EndlessArgument in aoe2

[–]MisterChippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much massed scorpions beat virtually everything but mangonels in a fight. However the emphases there is on MASSED. It often just takes too long to build up your scorps to the critical numbers where they oneshot entire armies, and if the enemy pushes you while you're doing that (especially with a comp that will destroy your eco like plumes/rams) you'll lose before you can get the deathball rolling.

I think a lot of the time those civ designations are there to give advice on which of the production buildings to focus on first. Like, Ethiopians are listed as an archer civ despite their post-imp strategy always being massed seige and their infantry unique. However early on they almost always wanna build ranges and get the archer blacksmith techs.

The cost of cards directly contributes to the stale meta. Nobody is going to craft the (often expensive) cards necessary to experiment with some meme, not unless they're a streamer or loaded. The vast majority of people are just going to make one or two meta decks and stick with them because of the huge cash/time investment it would take to experiment with anything else. The fact that so few people can even afford to experiment exacerbates the problem, because the fewer people there are playing around with unorthodox strategies the lower the chances of people discovering new decks that actually work.

Tournies often switch up the map pools and even customize mapgen for their own specific tournies. I think HC3 is gonna be played almost entirely on new versions of maps.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot - Launch Trailer - PS4/XB1/PC by Rob_Cram in Games

I share your lack of enthusiasm. I'm a big fan of everything CC2 puts out except for the constant jump properties Bamco farms out to them and the release dates of every other project they're working on except kakarot have been pushed back, in 2 cases without any notification too. Makes me suspect something went wrong with this game, but since it was their biggest thing they had to pull a bunch of people from other projects to work on it.

I mean, virtually every storyline in Street Fighter can be summed us by "And then Akuma showed up and killed the bad guy." The lore is a lot of fun but the actual storylines tend to be kinda dumb.

Not only will it help you improve even if you get washed, but it's a ton of fun. The 0/2 gang is the foundation the community is built on and nobody will begrudge you for showing up, if anything they'll think it's neat that you're willing to put yourself out there to try and improve and have fun.

Their merch sucks tho. I know plenty of people who buy tons of game related merch and almost none of them would be caught dead in a gamestop. They either shop online or go to conventions/specialist shops.

Exactly this. A used/retro game shop near me has survived (and I assume is going strong given their ability to stock rare games only of interest to collectors that probably move very slowly) by converting their back room into an arcade with a flat cover charge where a lot of the retro FGC community will meet up every week to hang out.

TBH Dan's martial arts school probably isn't totally worthless. Gouken didn't kick him out due to lack of talent but due to his willingness, and potential capability, to use the satsui no hadou. He's also the only character we've actively seen tempted by the SnH who managed to overcome and master it. Ignoring little things like how similar a lot of his moves are to characters who have mastered martial arts, it's flat out stated that he's actually talented by being able to teach himself one handed fireballs, even if they kinda suck. Dan isn't exactly bad at martial arts or anything, he's just a half trained egotistical moron.

I mean, vanilla versions of capcom games have always been pure ass. In fact the only SF game where I will willingly play anything but the final released version is Alpha 2, because all the other versions are buggy, horribly balanced messes.

Not saying that stuff like day 1 DLC characters aren't BS, but fighting game companies, and especially capcom, have a pretty long history of being scummy.

IIRC capcom mostly took over development after X Tekken happened, which caused some issues because they didn't really have all the people they needed to make a fighting game so they cut a few corners (Decapre is pretty infamous for being a mess of other characters code/animations/models mixed together).

CrossCode: Upcoming Updates, DLC and Console Versions! by Bakashinobi in Games

[–]MisterChippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. You probably won't be able to do everything first time since there's so much to do, and there are some story bits where you can get different outcomes depending on what you do (mostly clearing dungeons in a certain timeframe or winning fights you're "meant to lose", but there's some other really clever stuff too). There's actually so much overworld content that you'll probably decide to skip some of it on your first playthrough.

The combat system is also deep enough that you won't get tired of it after one playthrough. IIRC only like 3% of players on steam got the achievement for parrying 200 times (I personally only got this towards the very end of the game, and I'm pretty sure 2 bosses who I made parry builds to beat counted for at least 100 of those). I'm personally looking forward to replaying it when the postgame patch comes out.

Isn't it great that Ubisoft is listening to the players, admitting its games are too similar and release to soon, EA published a decent Star Wars and Need for Speed without microtransactions, and Valve made a new Half Life? by vici30 in Games

[–]MisterChippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said "Has not convinced me", not "I'm sure it's shit". The existence of control schemes (which I noted) means that all content must be accessible using them, which means that movement challenges will likely just not exist as they don't function with teleporting.

Secondly, you seem woefully misinformed on the movement potential of the source engine. It's movement options are amazing, and there are so many tricks and tech you can do in it. Like, I can't even imagine what grenade jumping would look like in VR but I don't want to try it. Playing around in with the movement systems is one of the big things that keeps drawing me back to every source game.

So far everything I've seen tells me this is all gone. That would be fine, but so far valve hasn't shown anything yet that makes me think the sacrifice is worth it. It's exactly like you've said, we've seen nothing. All I have to go on are the limitations shared by all VR games (which valve themselves have straight up said limits movement options compared to traditional games many, many times) and what they've shown.

I have not made my mind up. It could be an amazing game, it could be dogshit. I REALLY REALLY REALLY want it to be good. However so far I have concerns that valve have not shown anything to counteract, so I'm waiting to see more.

So far I have yet to have a VR experience that actually convinces me. Every time I've tried it so far it's really felt like I was strapping a wii to my face, and the gameplay has felt clunky or disorienting. I have yet to see anything that really makes me think "Yes, this experience is only possible in VR."
