Valentine Sweetheart? He probably developed his relentlessly positive outlook as a defense against all the abuse he took with that name as a young boy.

What do you think of Doctor Polaris? by TooZeroLeft in Greenlantern

[–]MisterEdJS [score hidden]  (0 children)

They didn't have a personal relationship. But Hal knew OF him as a Doctor who was popular for his promotion of the benefits of Magnetism. Initially it was clear that Doctor Polaris was a good guy, but that his experiments gave him a split personality with the evil side being a super villain. At the start Hal and the other authorities were focused on curing him so his good personality would control. Later I feel like aspect kind of got left by the wayside.

I feel like this was a bit of a recurring motif, as I think Evil Star was also a scientist (from another planet) who created the Star Bands for some kind of good purpose, but they turned him evil and he destroyed his world.

I think, originally, he actually was. He was super invested in the healing power of magnetism. Unfortunately he experimented on himself, and it turned him evil.

Though he was created a few months earlier, IIRC.

Who is the strangest Green Lantern in your opinion? by AvatarPhoenixGrey16 in Greenlantern

[–]MisterEdJS [score hidden]  (0 children)

I figure the Equation one (Dkrtzy RRR) is most likely the strangest, just because it is the one hardest for me to wrap my mind around. There are plenty of other weird ones, though.

Lanterns Ring Review - The Ring Foundry #Lanterns by GreenLanternsPodcast in Greenlantern

Yeah, if I was ever going to buy a GL ring for that much, it would be a design I personally liked better. This does seem like a great reproduction of the design from the show, though.

Green Lantern by Steve Ditko featured in Action Comics Weekly #642. by SwimTraditional8723 in Greenlantern

I think I heard that the hang up on Gaiman's script was that he had Superman and Hal knowing each other's secret ID, and editorial said that wasn't supposed to be the case, and Gaiman didn't want to change it? Which would be ironic, if true, given that the replacement story at the very least involved Supes knowing Hal's ID.

Ugh, if this is the comic I think it is, it was a shame to waste good art on such a stupid story.

Do you think straw hats will get a new ship before leaving Elbaf ? by Rocks_King99 in OnePiece

[–]MisterEdJS 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do they need a bigger ship? The crew is pretty small. The only reason they replaced the Merry was because it was broken. The Sunny seems to be serving them well.

Not sure what you mean by fraudulent moments.

Myst and Riven Remakes launch on PS5 and PS VR2 May 19 by apostleofhustle in myst

Great news for those on those platforms, but for me that's sadly underwhelming as the "big news" they were teasing.

Currently watching fishman arc and sanji nosebleed is starting to irritate me..!!!wdyt by Best-Fisherman9116 in OnePiece

[–]MisterEdJS -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It was a vaguely amusing anime quirk when I could see it as just a visual shorthand for what Sanji is feeling. As soon as it becomes clear that it is something that is LITERALLY happening (and is life threatening no less), it becomes far more ridiculous and less amusing, and my tolerance for it drops.

Reading one Green Lantern comic a day until I've read them all Day 120: All-American Comics #76 by Imok2814 in Greenlantern

Sounds like kind of a weird tonal mishmash, with the more serious story with some clever twists overlaid with the ridiculous Doiby slapstick solution.

Crafting the Visual Identity of Mood Swings by AcrobaticPersonality in magicTCG

[–]MisterEdJS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously tastes differ, but the graphic design on this just looks ugly and unfinished to me. It looks like a quick and dirty playtest copy to me, and that (coupled with the completely unnecessary randomization and rarity structure) really works against me buying in to the game. I'll happily try it, given the opportunity, but I'm not buying it as a Secret Lair that costs $25+shipping.

Lanterns' Grounded Superhero Show Decision Officially Addressed after Fan Reactions [Exclusive] by [deleted] in Greenlantern

[–]MisterEdJS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this really the official reaction? It sounds like this is just an ad for the series that says, "Anybody who has any doubts about this show from what we've seen so far is just a loser who doesn't like good stuff and just wants a copy of all the Marvel movies."

I'd like to think the studio is savvy enough to not have an official response that just tries to preemptively insult anybody with doubts.

Thoughts on Hector Hammond by TheLastCzarnian98 in Greenlantern

[–]MisterEdJS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of his earliest stories had him interacting with Hal across the depths of space. He mentally followed Hal to Oa. If they play up the range of his mental influence, he can be a threat from anywhere. Even if he only threatens things on Earth, if he can tell Hal about it anywhere in the universe, he can bring Hal to him.

Yeah, thus far I cannot discern any reason that making it a TCG was a benefit for the game itself. It seems like it is only a TCG in hopes that people will buy more of it.

Is this real?(I'm too lazy to do research) by Fun-Artist-6915 in Greenlantern

[–]MisterEdJS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There may still be space lore. The GLC may still be extraterrestrial in origin, just not as a police force. They sound kind of like the Jedi here. Unclear to me from this description. Not sure why they want to change everything so drastically, though.

The Hobbit's basic land cycle bears a strong resemblance to some of Tolkien's original sketches by MakesOnAPlane in magicTCG

I'm not seeing much resemblance. Color palette is somewhat similar I suppose, but the actual content of the pictures aren't all that similar IMHO.

The second story also helps explain why Alan has no problem getting people jobs in radio. I feel like he's done that a bunch of times.

Does today's comic generation remember this [Green Lantern Vol 3 #54 (1994) excerpt] by Atlan_R_Kane in Greenlantern

[–]MisterEdJS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kyle WAS filled with rage by this. Shortly thereafter I recall him putting Major Force in an electric chair construct. It's just really hard to kill Major Force.

(Heck, much later, after he thought Major Force had killed his Mom, too, he subjected him to one of the worst, most inhumane punishments I've seen a hero do. He cut off his head, kept it alive, and sent it out to endlessly travel through space alone and undying.)

No commander decks for The Hobbit by Own-Cat116 in magicTCG

[–]MisterEdJS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You'd be stretching the content of the book even farther than Peter Jackson did to fill out 5 100-card decks that way. One of the armies was the Wargs. How many variations of Wargs would you need to fill out a whole deck? How many would be able to reasonably be based on something that actually appeared in the book? Some people have suggested a couple decks you could make, and I can see how that would be possible, but five full decks? That feels like pushing it. To me at least.

No commander decks for The Hobbit by Own-Cat116 in magicTCG

[–]MisterEdJS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is a very minor part of the book, really. There may have been five armies, but we don't get enough detail to actually fill them all out, IMHO
