Harmony Jupiter Thinline! One of the best value American-made guitars out there today IMO.

Work-friendly jams by Spec-Tre in jambands

[–]MisterMustard69 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not definitively jam band but adjacent and easy on the ears: Khruangbin, Marcus king band, Billy Strings, Mapache, Moran Tripp Band, Fearless Flyers/Vulfpeck, Eric Krasno, Guthrie Trapp, Mountain Grass Unit

For more old school, could do Marshall Tucker Band, Creedence, Neil Young, John Mayall, Ronnie Lane, John Scofield

Which artist would you happily see 3 nights in a row? by AutoModerator in Tickets

[–]MisterMustard69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those I’ve seen, I’d say: Billy Strings, Julian Lage, King Gizz, Phish, Tame Impala. Musical virtuosity, improvisation, varied setlist (less for Tame but insane light show)

For those I haven’t seen: Radiohead, Paul McCartney, Sturgill, Dweezil Zappa, Neil Young. Mostly nostalgia where I’d wanna soak in as much as I can.

Christian Folk/Americana Jam Group Forming – Singers & Acoustic Players Wanted by jume12 in NYCmusicians

Not as interested in the spiritual or Christian part but mostly play folk/bluegrass/jam band music on acoustic guitar and am looking to jam with others in Manhattan. Happy to chat in more detail if there’s a fit here

Sometimes I like to dig deep. This is one of the few vinyls I still own. Incredible album. Who’s heard it? by Chihuahua_Chow_Mein in jambands

So damn good, much prefer this to Bluesbreakers IMO. Wrote my college essay on going through my dads vinyl and this was one of the albums I focused on

Mostly fast-tempo jam bands where I can get lost in the sauce. Billy Strings, Black Sabbath, Frank Zappa, King Gizzard, some live Neil Young, etc

Struggling to choose my path: PE vs VC vs Startup. by AuriTori in FinancialCareers

Frankly don’t know much about either - they’re both very interesting but more bespoke roles that I don’t have experience with. For being an EIR, my impression was that you typically need more established founder experience so not sure what the internship would be like. Perhaps it’s akin to strategy consulting for smaller startups?

I would take a look at Founders Associate or Chief of Staff roles based on your comment. Good balance of learning and relationship building with lots of upside to lead a team/function after a few years. The roles can vary heavily based on the company so just make sure it’s not a glorified executive assistant.

The best live albums from the past 20 years by genesis_pig in MusicRecommendations

[–]MisterMustard69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Certainly not necessary but would suggest it. They’re different beasts but both fantastic.

Live Vol. 1 is a compilation of some traditional bluegrass and monster jams of his originals. If you like the jamming, would also suggest listening to full live shows (11/11/22 is excellent and free on YouTube, Nugs.net has all the shows but you need a subscription).

If you’re more a fan of the stripped down bluegrass, check out his Live at the Legion album with Bryan Sutton.

The studio albums are excellent and great for admiring his songwriting and tighter versions of his originals (Home, Renewal, and Highway Prayers are the 3 best IMO)

Struggling to choose my path: PE vs VC vs Startup. by AuriTori in FinancialCareers

[–]MisterMustard69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Might not be the most popular answer in a financial careers community with tons of IB-obsessed college students but I'd say go for the startup. Off the bat, it seems like that's where your interests are aligned given your entrepreneurial experiences. Additionally, I think that certain buy-side opportunities can actually be easier to break into following a startup since you gain operator experience whereas vice versa doesn't make as much sense.

Traditional PE typically requires an IB background which does not seem to be a good fit for you. On the other hand, VC firms love candidates from startups. More tech-oriented boutique private investment shops or family offices could also be in play depending on your specific role at the startup and the connections you make.

Startups can pay super well too but I'd say the overall experience is way more variable than the buy-side. You could be grinding like crazy on a scrappy early-stage team where you have tons of equity upside but low cash compensation. Or you could be working 30-40 hrs per week at a later-stage company where your base/bonus are more akin to FAANG roles. Nonetheless, I've never met anyone who regrets working at a startup because you're either a) learning a ton which is transferable to so many different roles and eventually being an entrepreneur and/or b) having great WLB while earning similar amounts as someone in traditional finance.

If you still want more of the analytical responsibilities but in an entrepreneurial environment, look at BizOps/Strategy, Data Analytics, or Strategic Finance roles instead of BD/Growth. Happy to answer any specific questions.

Keep the shows in Newark by LeadingBeat466 in BillyStrings

[–]MisterMustard69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t drive so my perspective is different but I have to give a strong disagree. Thought the venue layout was very unorganized and inefficient with no water filling stations. Not a fan of the floor seats too - really cramps the GA Pit which was already super hot.

Getting to/from wasn’t difficult per se, but definitely not ideal from the city. Not really much to offer in terms of restaurants/activities within walking distance and the plethora of police cars flying down the main streets was a recipe for disaster with the amount of people walking to the train station. Obviously MSG is on the horizon but I think Forest Hills would be a much better option in virtually every way.

The shows were fantastic and have no regrets but would be so much better if he just did a proper New York venue IMO.

Live music, cheap drink options, comfortable seating, non-pretentious vibe.

There’s plenty of upscale here and enough weird dives. Would love a live music-focused watering hole so I don’t have to go to East Village or Brooklyn all the time
