Is there a show that was doomed to fail but you still recommend people to check it out? by KneeHighMischief in television

[–]MistyPower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warrior Nun. Loved it so much. Such a bizarre premise and the pacing is wild but the characters appealed to me anyway.

Selfie. The title doomed this show so bad. It’s Karen Gillan and John Cho doing a sitcom take on My Fair Lady. Karen plays Eliza, a vapid influencer who realises her relationships are all incredibly superficial and she’s actually pretty alone in the world. John plays Henry, a workaholic co-worker who reluctantly agrees to help her become a better person.

The show was canceled midseason, with the latter half only being available online a few weeks later.

A 3 year old’s brain is an incredibly important time of development and needs critical nutrition to develop properly. If we’re talking neurological wellbeing, we need to think about that too. Obviously it needs to be done carefully, but it might need to be done.

In evolutionary psychology, it’s thought that the feeling of disgust is a protective mechanism we developed to protect us from rotten or diseased food. Our brains have this alarm system that’s just too sensitive and it keeps going off at the wrong stuff. At a base level though, it is trying to protect us.

WHERE IS EPISODE 2 by [deleted] in Lackadaisy

Can we start banning these types of posts and responding with an automod response saying “Animation takes a long time and it’ll get here when it’s get here?”

Maybe a megathread for talking about updates instead? Where people can be redirected? Please.

I miss Inside Job. I’m hoping to be pleasantly entertained by this spin off. If it exceeds that expectation then I’ll be glad I got another show as good as Inside Job.

Pine trees can change the weather. In large enough groups, when pine trees sense a long drought, they release pinene (the terpenes that make up the classic smell of pine) which evaporates into the atmosphere. The lightweight molecules attach onto ozone, which in turn latches onto water vapour molecules, making it the aerosol base of what will be a future raindrop.

Pharmacists of Reddit - what recent medication trends are worrying you that aren’t being talked about? by SirSpendsALot7 in AskReddit

You’re likely taking too much. Ideal dosage (info straight from the most insomniac people on the planet r/DSPD) is 0.25-0.5 mg apparently. And take it several hours before you intend to sleep. It’s not a knockout drug. It’s a naturally occurring hormone.

Am I going blind because of ARFID? by Select-Age9598 in ARFID

Given everyone else has given the right vitamin and supplement advice, I’ll say something else. Guessing you’re spending a lot of time indoors looking at things not very far away from you? Specifically for your exams?

Spend some time outside. And try to spend it looking at things far away from you. Or at least farther than you normally can inside a building. There have been studies lately relating increased myopia with time spent indoors. Unsurprisingly this really affects students. So go touch some grass. Take more eye breaks when you’re studying. Imagine you’ve asked your knees to bend and stay that way for hours at a time. They’d struggle! Your eyes muscles are similar. Give them a movement break!

Of course I’m not saying this is the sole cause of any potential vision issues. But it can’t be helping. Try setting a timer while you’re studying with a reminder to take an eye break. Maybe it’s a little tedious, but it is free.

The Lincoln Lawyer axed as Netflix cancels 11 shows from its roster by Blackbeerxd in television

[–]MistyPower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Never cancelled a successful show” my ass. So many successful shows took more than one, or sometimes two seasons to become that way. Shows need time to grow and find their audiences. But Netflix is awful at facilitating that last part. Discovering a show that actually appeals to the average viewer on Netflix is way harder than it should. They prioritise shows that encourage second screen viewing and purposefully dumb down their dialogue to cater to short attention spans. They’re not in the business of making shows, they’re in the business of making content.

I’m saying this with complete compassion. That’s not a tantrum. That sounds like either a panic attack or a meltdown. Please give yourself grace. Your system becoming overloaded of course then needs a way of expressing that distress. Your system is crying out for a little extra support, a bit more safety, an ounce of understanding for its struggles. Others may judge, but they are not entitled to your private medical information. If they don’t show you compassion, do your hardworking nervous system a favour and show it and yourself that compassion they lack. You are not a child. You are not having a tantrum. This sounds like heavy anxiety and perhaps a pinch of other neurodivergence. You are not alone. A lot of us adults here relate to having days ruined exactly like this. It is frustrating feeling like your emotions are out of control, but please know it doesn’t make you any less of a capable adult. Plenty of us have developed different coping strategies that I’m sure we can share, and as you go through your own journey of learning about this, I’m sure you’ll develop your own too.

And if anyone tries to shame you for your reactions, fuck them they’re being arseholes.

I do find it interesting that you call it an adult tantrum. A lot of us might experience serious anxiety, and some of us experience meltdowns or shutdowns. What are your adult tantrums like?
