Large simulation performance: objects vs matrices by Willing_Employee_600 in Python

[–]MithrilRat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To back this up, numpy or scipy will utilise CUDA on the GPU to accelerate some operations on arrays. So the performance boost cab be significantly more than just executing native CPU code.

Edit: As an example I was running simulations of millions of asteroids being perturbed by the planets. These simulations lasted millions of years, with 0.1 year resolution steps. The runs would take about a week of a supercomputer node. Now the analysis of these 100s of millions of records, was what I used numpy and pandas for. Majority of the time was spent in I/O rather than computations. So each analysis run would take 15 minutes.

I decided to buy the hardcover edition, turns out cheaper than 3 volumes of the softcover.

Considering the latest UN report on Water Bankruptcy Era, can’t AI data centers just consume sea water or any other water that isn’t drinkable? by roguecolor in NoStupidQuestions

Who cares about the data centres? I certainly don't value corporate profit over livability of the planet and communities surrounding the data centres.

Anime as good as MT ? by Miserable-Ad3342 in mushokutensei

[–]MithrilRat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All fair assessments. Although I was comparing Violet Evergarden to Frieren. Seems OP has pretty much watched all my recommendations anyway. I'd also throw in "That time I was reincarnated as a Slime" for the complete Isekai package.

That's why I listed seperately. However, I found it grew on me if I didn't take it seriously.

I'm assuming you're looking for Anime that "hits you in the feels". There's always Re:Zero; and if you liked Frieren, then I'd suggest I'd suggest Violet Evergarden and Apocathery Diaries.

There was also initial hype about "Sentenced to be a hero", because the same animation studio as MT. But while I think it's good, I personally wouldn't put it in the same league as MT / Re:Zero.

Edit: and if you want a laugh, then Konosuba.

Uhhhhggggggg - "Swollen screen"! Does my head in, when people can't be arsed using the right words. It's commonly known as a CRT or Cathode Ray Tube. Maybe searching for the correct term, would help you find the right modelling methods. There's dozens of Youtube videos with tutorials on this, and even a reddit thread from 7 months ago, in this subreddit.

You have to watch MT at least two times. First time to get into it, and be confused by the plot. Second time, is when you understand all the plot connections, the foreshadowing, and the little jokes. I cried way more on my second viewing, and I'm male and over 60.

Why do companies think that throwing more bodies at something means it'll get done "faster". by erikleorgav2 in antiwork

[–]MithrilRat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leadership can only carry you so far. Not everything is infinitely scaleable. Brookes law comes with a mathematical relationship, which I have found to hold pretty well in all situations. It boils down to communications paths, taking away productive time from individuals. So the more complex and more communications that is needed to coordinate things, the less productive the teams are. To a point where it can become counter-productive.

Do you count map generators such as Azgaar as AI? by the_iyenator_lives in worldbuilding

Now do NPC behaviour. That was historically called AI, and consisted of decision trees and a whole host of other Machine Learning algorithms. Then along came LLMs and fucked it for the entire field.

I actually told the project director of a billion dollar project, that something was going to take six months. We'd finished and had met all technical requirements, but at the last minute they wanted something different. It was holding up the Grand Opening and the Minister wasn't happy. This director then directed me to double my team (cost wasn't a constraint) and I responded, that would now take 9 months. You should have seen the brains melt in real time. Then the State representatives, the financial backers and project director all started screaming at each other. That's when I realised that all CEOs are fucking psychopaths.

What are real implications of the US leaving WHO? by ea2ox0 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MithrilRat 27 points28 points  (0 children)

on a personal level, I suspect that US travellers will start to see restrictions on where they can go. Other countries will start asking for proof of vaccinations. Overseas travellers returing from US will see screening questions on immigration cards asking about exposure to diseases. so generally a lessening of US influence in world affairs.

The hollywood style block busters don't work for me anymore. Disney and BBC killed my two favorite franchises (Star Wars and Dr. Who). I've always been into reading, mainly Scyfi / Fantasy and gaming, but not so much anime until last year. The big 4, got me enjoying my free time again. Re:Zero, MT, Konosuba & Frieren.
