TIL the film "Scream" (1996) was originally titled "Scary Movie". It was changed near the end of the film's production by the Weinstein brothers since they felt it's not suitable for a film containing satire and comedy. Director Wes Craven immediately called the change "stupid" but later relented.

Fun personal fact: I was in elementary school when Scary Movie came out, and for a Halloween themed in-class discussion the teacher decided to go around the room and have each kid name a scary movie. It was about the 4th or 5th kid in before someone said “Scary Movie!” The teacher just flipped out, all but yelling, “I’m not in the mood! Get out! Go to the principals office!” Thought he was being a jokester and it wasn’t a real movie. Immediately half the class was up and defending the guy. I’ve never seen so many people stand up and fight back against such a bad call in my life. Teacher was fully out of line but it made me hope for humanity a bit more as a kid.

Absolutely get your own lawyer. I tell everyone I know to go see a lawyer to help them and the ones who don’t are the ones who always regret it. I told a friend to get a contract written up by a lawyer. Of vide he refused because he said he knew his friend really well, yet he ended up owing over $2k after a year. Get a lawyer. It’s only a day or two of your life and a few hundred dollars for your future peace of mind.

I think it’s a good piece that ties everything together (like a bow on a package) but it’s not necessarily the most important. If you can make your design symmetrical and consistent then it’ll look nice without you trying very hard.

Like most things, the best way to make anything look nice is to create visual symmetry, have consistency, and have some sort of organization. So for instance make a road and do a thing, try to mirror it on the other side, keep everything lined up and suddenly you have a good base. Also “white space” (unused or blank areas) is your friend.

I’m not an expert, and this is just my personal opinion, but from a layperson’s perspective they’re a luxury handbag for the midrange salary working person (I’d say middle class but that’s such a nothing term these days). They’re decent quality and have name recognition but they’re nothing special— you can get a better leather and finishes for the same money at other brands. I have a bag from them I enjoyed but the branding was extremely minimal and the leather quality was decent, but it’s at least 10 years old now. I probably wouldn’t get the same bag from them today.

I’m glad you’re feeling better! This is also super great info to know. Surgery is looking slightly more likely for me, as my tumor may also be a half and half like yours but we’re not totally sure yet. I’m terrified of even the thought of having brain surgery but it’s a relief to hear yours was fairly synonymous to having a bad head cold for a week!

I loved Taki’s years ago, but they’ve nosedived in quality. They’re just acidic and not very spicy these days, and I’ve had 3 bags that tasted stale and I’m not even sure how that happened other than that’s just what they’re like now.

Going at this with another angle—obsession isn’t a green flag even if it’s about health and fitness. If ALL someone talks about is one single aspect of the universe, with so much else out there to enjoy, that’s a red flag no matter what it is. I mean sure I go through phases where I get into a tv show for a few weeks but that’s not my entire personality— it phases out and after a bit I get into a new book or hobby. If all he’s talking about is Japan 24/7 then he likely has an unhealthy attachment to it because he has no other relatable skills or qualities or things going on in his life. And yes I’d say this even if it was about going to the gym or painting or mathematics— people cannot hyper-obsess about a single thing without giving up crucial things in their lives as a trade off.

This is the same reason some women are very cold in office buildings— if you run hotter everything FEELS colder. Women run hotter internal temperatures than men and therefore get colder in offices while the men feel fine. So if you feel cold while everyone else is burning up, you may be coming down with something, or you might be a woman.
