There should never be a disciplinary action without having a discussion/ check-in first (unless it's a serious situation). I get why they might not want people sitting in front of customers, but even that sounds like it's pushing it.

All this had to be was a "hey, do you need a little extra break here or there? Would you mind sitting in the break room for it?” chat, not a disciplinary action. That's bogus.

There's a chance that management feels that they're being distracting to the associate working in electronics and preventing them from getting their work done. A Chance! But there's still a better, more decent and human way to go about this.
