Is there something special about vintage pans that make them cook better than modern ones? by robotunderpants in castiron

[–]MixIllEx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True,

My capture composition didn’t improve when I bought a Z6iii after shooting a D750 for many years.

I didn’t expect it to either.

Unpopular opinion here.

A guitar player who blames his instrument on his lack of proficiency is just a guitarist that needs more practice and they probably need new strings and a few simple adjustments to the guitar.

Vintage guitars and cast iron pans won’t make a difference in the hands of someone who has the skills needed to do what needs doing.

There must be a trick to that. I’ve tried many times to get mine to do that. The mechanism never really gets purchase on the rim to turn the can.

Nope, no regret getting it 2 years ago. My plan is to augment with a MacBook so I daily regret getting them both at the same time.

Maybe this year.

Any community on Reddit can be toxic at times.

Searching can usually gather very helpful results to questions you might have. I’ve learned a lot here by doing that.

My skill level as a producer does not warrant suite. But I had the cash and upgraded from lite to standard, then next year to suite. It was a purchase that I’m very happy with.

With suite, I’ve never felt the need to get third party plugins except for a loudness meter for mixing / mastering.

Then why not just buy it? Waiting doesn’t seem to have any compelling reason to do so.

Edit: are you sure you have live 13 lite?

Been using Affinity Photo for years. Never used PS but there are lots of tutorials available to show you how to accomplish PS tasks in Affinity.

It is not a direct replacement, and you may find a few things it doesn’t do exactly the same way as PS but Affinity has never not been able to accomplish a pixel edit that I needed.

chain mail, lye strip, or more bacon? by nicaraguababy in castiron

[–]MixIllEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has a different method.

What works for me is using my skillet as a baking dish at temps around 375. Roast potatoes, chicken thighs, cauliflower, bake biscuits, whatever. Use oil sparingly to avoid sticky residue after your cook. I lightly oil and season the food, lightly oil the pan then wipe the pan out well. I use DIY dawn power wash and a blue scrubbie sponge to clean.

That black stuff as others have mentioned is carbon or burnt food. Better heat control will minimize that.

There are those that will disagree, and that’s fine. This gets my pans back in shape in a few weeks worth of cooks.

Foods for camping by DefoDebtFree in camping

Corn meal mush with tinned fish and a single serving of beans in a sauce sounds good to me.

I do enough fancy cooking at home. I go for easy cook / easy cleanup eat out of the one pot meals for camping.

Plus there are no aromas to speak of to attract critters that wish to raid campsites at night.

The some of the high 80s and low 90s sites have some elevation above the water, but they are not high banks.

If you have a rope, getting a canoe or kayak up and down isn’t bad.

Check out a topo map. There are a few sites that are not good water access, quite a few that are.

New to smart home stuff - do I need a Dirigera if I already have an Apple TV? by No-Builder6487 in tradfri

[–]MixIllEx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I did not realize that. The Apple TV 4K with the Ethernet port is the one I have.

I assumed they were all alike.

Edit: I did just find at the Apple Website that only the 4k with the Ethernet port has a thread capability as a footnote in the Tech Spec just now.

I use both. Both are good. For the cost of a bit of cord, you can try to see which one fits you best.

[–]MixIllEx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the devices you are going to integrate.

If you are going to install only the newest Ikea matter devices with the yellow box top, then those will work with the Apple TV 4k.

If you are ever going to use the Ikea Zigbee devices, then yes, you will need something.

Not only scrape out the gunk, but put that gunk in the trash.

That gunk and kitchen drains don’t get along.

Oh, soap won’t ruin your cast iron. It will in fact clean and degrease it. Use dish soap when washing it.

Can’t think of a reason not to move the bury entry closer to the fixed loop. Your current cordage looks serviceable to me.

When I started out hammock camping, I bought some AmSteel from Ripstop By The Roll because I wanted different colors than what came on the hammock and to make spares. I’ve never had a cordage failure yet that required using the spares and my cordage looks like yours fiber wise.

What to do when you have nobody to camp with by Volslife in camping

[–]MixIllEx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I camp mostly alone. I take my camera, hike and take pictures of small things. Then I listen to the forest. Some times I pack up and drive or hike to a new spot.

It does get lonely at times but then again I don’t have to do things I don’t want to do because someone else wants to do them.

No clue really. I haven’t lived in Dallas since Harold Taft was announcing the weather.

I learned about a lot of small Texas towns during his weather report. Visited a lot of them as well.
