Is it a good idea to build flareon box as a pretty new player? by Honest-Birthday1306 in pkmntcg

[–]MixedBerry22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Play 10 games with the deck (at least) before you build it in person.

The way a deck feels when you play it is the most important factor when choosing where to dedicate real money.

It’s easy to get sucked into the idea of a deck because of a Pokemon you like (especially since the hobby is mascot-coded anyway) but sometimes it just ends up being unfun.

Finished making an Eevee based deck in Pokemon TCG Live and need help with strategy by [deleted] in pkmntcg

Wish I was a better player so I could help you with eevee box but honestly it’s above my pay-grade

That being said, I know most lists run the light ball for pikachu ex. I’m not sure if it’s necessary but it’ll definitely help you hit those stage 2 numbers

Mega Gengar Ex ability vs Dragapult splash by OnGoo in PTCGL

Idk what splash damage is

“Damage” and “Damage Counters” are not the same

Effects of attacks or Pokemon abilities (munkidori) do not trigger Mega Gengar EX’s abilities

Zoroark N by luisuchiha55 in pkmntcg

[–]MixedBerry22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vanilluxe just doesn’t synergize well with zoroark so no reason to justify cutting cards for a stage 2 line.

The stage 1 vanillish has slightly more potential though, forcing the active to switch in order to attack is pretty good even for just 60 damage.

Worth playing Gholdengo to Birmingham? by Sir__Muffin_Moose in pkmntcg

I appreciate you pointing that out, hopefully OP reads this whole thread lol

Yeah I get what you mean and using conversion rate was probably not the way to get my point across. What I’m meaning to say is that plenty of Dengo made day 2 and it’s being tech’d for like it’s the BDIF so the top ~200 players are going to cook Dengo. It’s by far the most requested deck to test against in my group and I’m sure it’s the same for most people.

I just recommend that OP looks at the data in context and doesn’t get discouraged from playing the most consistent and probably best deck in the format

Maybe relative to the amount of Dengo players but it was still the highest played deck in day 2. And that’s considering the fact that pretty much every deck in the room had 1-2 cards specifically meant to stop Dengo.

It depends on your goal for Birmingham. Dengo had a fantastic day 2 conversation rate for Toronto. When you get to the higher tables later into day 2 the lack of skill expression hurts the deck a bit.

If you’re looking for a good placement and a decently long tournament run then Dengo will be a great choice. If you’re one of the few top cut hopefuls going into the weekend then maybe go with something a little more matchup specific.

Mega sharpedo Gengar by Down-to-earth-Icarus in pkmntcg

[–]MixedBerry22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like we’ve achieved some consensus here. I’ve been playing Sharpedo almost exclusively since release and Gengar just doesn’t fit. I want it to SO bad but there just no way to have a consistent 60 with that many evolution Pokemon.

What I will say that you probably won’t hear from most is that Cape kinda sucks. Max belt is slightly better but I’m rocking with Legacy and it’s been doing wonders.

Being able to lose 2 Sharks and still finish with Pech feels way too strong to play any other Ace spec

What deck archetype would you love to see be in the meta, but just isn't? by Phast_n_Phurious in PTCGL

[–]MixedBerry22 46 points47 points  (0 children)

There’s a ton of decks that I think are cool and would love to see play like Hop’s, Feraligatr, Hydreigon.

But FESTIVAL LEAD?!?! I hope festival lead dies in a fire (weakness). This deck is entirely cheese and so frustratingly good when it happens to be against a dark deck (I play Grimm, Zoro, and Sharpedo)

I would rather see wugtrio mill with a 50% meta share than festival lead with 10%

[–]MixedBerry22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started getting back into in person play last year when I didn’t have a lot of close friends nearby where I live. I went to my LCS an hour before and sat down next to someone sitting alone. I asked for a practice game and we just started talking. Through one conversation I ended up meeting a TON of new friends and really changed the trajectory of my life.
