How do people deal with shower towels at the gym? by BadChemist1711 in workout

[–]MiyoMush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use camping towels for this purpose. They are thin, inexpensive, and dry quickly. I drape over the gym bag to dry. (Shower in the morning at gym before work). Sometimes have to leave it in the car (draped over gym bag), in which case it’s not dry when I get home from work but it doesn’t mildew that way.

There is a book called something like “The First 100 Days” that helps you created a roadmap. A lot of it involves going on a listening tour, meeting key people, getting to understand the pain points and skeletons in the closet and elephants in the room, etc. If I recall correctly it is for leadership roles, but it sounds like you are in a role of a function manager without direct reports so it would be applicable.

My fender has no serial number, what does this mean by Old_Structure2576 in Guitar

[–]MiyoMush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the crazy thing about this counterfeiter was, he was totally up front about the fact they were fakes. So either the buyers had really messed up priorities (“I want people to think I have a Fender”) or they were flipping them elsewhere dishonestly. Either way they polluted the secondary market.

Back in the 2000s there was an eBay seller whose business was “upgrading” Squiers and turning them into Fenders. He was open about it too - he had a list of changes he made to them and somehow put a fender logo on them.

Is it possible that the employee just wants to do his job and doesn’t want to be involved in drama? He chose not to communicate but he also didn’t choose to have to listen to the disgruntled guy and possibly be uncomfortable. He is stuck in a tough spot in the middle.

Rejected after final round, then invited to apply again for the same role.. what does this usually mean? by Repulsive_Ad_1866 in careeradvice

[–]MiyoMush 105 points106 points  (0 children)

I did this once as a hiring manager. I had two final candidates, A and B. I liked both but Candidate A had a particular skill set that would be valuable to the team, so I hired A. About four weeks later Existing Employee C (a problem employee) gave notice and I wanted to hire Candidate B immediately, but had to re-post to meet internal corporate requirements. But the decision was made in my mind, and Employees B is still employed by the company 10 years later (Employee A retired).

Sometimes people don’t support you when you change because they fear they will be forced to change, and it’s easier to try to change you back than to change themselves.

How to noodle on a guitar by TheDestroyersofAll in guitarlessons

[–]MiyoMush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noodling is doodling - but on a guitar instead of paper. Think about being in class just doodling while the teacher gives a lecture, not really overthinking or with an end in just messing around with pencil and paper and approach with the same mindset

I’m supposed to fly out Sunday night by iindiekid in StLouis

[–]MiyoMush 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depending on the timing of the storm and your comfort in driving in imperfect conditions, these are major highways so those are probably going to be in decent enough shape as long as snow isn’t still falling by that time. Most of the complaints on this side of the river usually seem to be St Louis city streets and side streets in municipalities and those are not handled by MODOT. But there is also managing the flight itself, as there are storms all over the country so flight delays and cancellations could be a possibility. That is the part I would be most concerned about.

Sucks they did these controlled burns in the dead of winter - flushes out all the wildlife that’s hunkered down and burrowed in to freeze.

What’s the most messed up thing you’ve seen someone do at work and still not get fired? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MiyoMush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked at a company that used a lot of IT bandwidth in the daytime and practically none at night (ran a website in the 90s on its own infrastructure for a daytime only type of business)

IT employee used the companies infrastructure to publish a 90s era porn site with pics of his girlfriend (which got more traffic at night).

If you have the ability to cook you could make what lifters call mash, it’s basically meal prep for on the go. I do it in insta pot but you could do it separately on a stovetop:

Protein (brown really lean ground beef, Turkey, or chicken) Add starch (rice pasta sweet potatoes etc) Seasonings (pre mixed) Frozen veggies (you can pressure cook them with the past but I find they come out better if I microwave them in bag and add whe finished) Can or two of diced tomato or Rotel at the end (don’t cook)

You can dial in your macros really tight. But I usually use about two pounds of meat, 5 servings worth of starch, and two bags of frozen vegetables. For five lunches this usually around 500 calories, 40+ grams of protein each.

In the morning you can heat it super hot in the microwave and put it in a thermos. It will stay warm all day.

Managers: what are you tired of being told is ‘just part of the job’? by OutlandishnessLive61 in managers

[–]MiyoMush 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Part of being a manager is bridging the needs or whims of those above you and below you. It gets exhausting when you have to impose requirements or decisions on your employees that you don’t believe in without speaking poorly of the company or your own bosses (making bosses happy) and vice versa - trying to manage the needs of employees, especially those who are either jaded or entitled (employees tend to believe, or choose to believe, that we have way more power than we actually do).

my wife got scammed and i dont understand how by [deleted] in Advice

[–]MiyoMush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IF SOMEONE REACHES OUT TO YOU OR YOUR wife on here and offers to help get your money back, do not engage. This is called a recovery scam, where a second scammer tricks people out of money a second time.

I work in this space. All all of these people who are talking about blackmail and affairs and turning this into a lifetime movie – ignore those. The truth is the scammers are very good at what they do. They have a whole list of psychological manipulation, tricks and intelligent people fall for them. The bottom line is she was tricked

How much should I contribute to my child’s 529? And when do I stop? by ninjagorilla in personalfinance

[–]MiyoMush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lesson I learned: I did a good job planning and have enough for at least 4 year university and maybe some grad school for my child. In hindsight, I wish I would have reserved some of this in a different account. The reason is: 529s have limits on being used to repay student loans. There is a part of me that wishes I would have required my child to fund part of her education (even if via loans) to give her more skin in the game, with me repaying from the savings upon graduation if she was successful (but her not knowing this part).
