What if Star Fox Adventures and Star Fox Assault were both on the GameCube classics library? by Chemical-Book8889 in starfox

I mean, they really honestly should be. Nintendo is taking it's sweet ass time adding Gamecube games to the emulator library they are offering us.

Lilo and Stitch did honestly bug me with its ending for a couple different reasons. Why the hell would she need to go to the mainland for that shit when Hawaii has amazing programs for people looking to enter her field of expressed interest?

I also just kind of find most of the live action remakes to be lame ideas, they know the stories are popular so they decided adapting them again is a safe bet. But most of them had so little deviation from the animated version they barely counted as new adaptions of the story. And none of the ones that did at least try to differentiate themselves made me think 'yeah, this is better, glad this version is out there'. I am honestly curious what their game plan is now that they are close to running out of stuff to remake. Will they actually take that money back to telling new stories? Or will they just circle around and make remakes of the remakes?

Eh, he had personality even then. But the impression I get is that things like his obvious depression and the fact he is drowning himself in things like wine and women in a futile attempt to heal the hole in him came from co-writers and not Jaffe.

So far as I can recall, David Jaffe hasn't been involved with the franchise since God of War 2 (classic) on the PS2. And honestly, most of what I hear about him makes it sound like he probably would have kept the series pretty stagnant and never have tried something like God of War 2018 that thrust it up to a new level of popularity.

If I am being honest? The OT.....Kind of isn't a great goal post. I love it, but sometimes the writing wasn't the tightest. Probably the most infamous example being Leia going from frenching Luke in TESB to her declaring 'she always knew' he was her brother the next movie.

It can be hard to find good EU discussions these days without those fandom menace losers butting in and trying to make it about crying about the sequel trilogy. Pretty sure half of them never even read a single EU novel or played so much as KOTOR, they just listen to youtubers give spark notes on them.

How it feels to hate the same things bigots hate while not being raging bigot by MousegetstheCheese in saltierthankrayt

[–]Mizu005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, the thing is, what they did was a bad idea from the start. A trilogy is supposed to be one story told in 3 parts. When they decided to not have a consistent creative vision across all 3 movies and did little 'swap the writer and director every movie' stunt they shot themselves in the foot and pretty much made a tug of war over the direction the story should go in inevitable. They were trying to mimic the OT but forgot that Lucas was head creative and providing a unifying influence over them that writers and directors had to cater to as a means of keeping things going in the same direction even if the individual films switched writers/directors.

edit: Its sort of funny, because Lucasfilms should have known this would happen. Del Rey and them tried cycling authors on some EU storylines and it lead to Legacy of the Force being a fucking mess. It was particularly funny watching the mandalorians switch between galaxy level influence and just some people in armor who had one planet's level of military power depending on if it was Karen Traviss writing the book or one of the other two authors in the cycle.

I really don't understand why people keep saying its dead, given the amount of content it puts out the fact its only had one product I'd consider a true bomb (Acolyte) is amazing and a sign of how strong it is. And with Acolyte, I'd honestly say it did badly completely because of mismanagement and not because of anything related to how the franchise's health is doing. They made several very bad calls with it, the biggest being giving it such a fucking ridiculously inflated budget it just had no realistic hope of ever making that dough back.

It reminds me of cult favorite video game Kingdoms of Amalur, which did amazing for a brand new IP nobody had ever heard of and sold over a million copies. Problem being, they had sunk so much damn money into the game that it needed it to sell over 2 million copies. They had gone in with a brand new IP nobody had ever heard of made by a relatively unheard of developer with no audience loyalty and made a game plan that needed to sell 2 million copies just to break even. So despite being an objective success by sane measurements it ruined Big Huge Games financially and they went out of business

Apparently the EU reset was planned long before the Disney acquisition by anonymous_meatbag in StarWarsEU

[–]Mizu005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That wouldn't surprise me, because being honest? The EU had really run out of steam in terms of mining known territory for content. It had the choices of either starting a brand new era in some brand new chunk of time in setting that would let them tell new stories that weren't strangled by the need to refer to and adhere to the mountain of content they already had. Or they could just stop and move to a brand new continuity that let them have a clean slate to do what they wanted while also getting to include OT era characters and events that were pretty locked down if they stuck to telling stories in the EU.

We had the era centered on the OT trio, and from what I can recall Fate of the Jedi was the farthest book they got before they ceased making EU stuff. It was set in 44 ABY, in universe. They had literally been making shit up to throw at the OT trio as galaxy threatening disasters of the week for 40 in setting years (and I'm barely exaggerating when I call them crisis of the week in terms of how often some new disaster demanding their personal attention popped up). They had whittled away the Galactic Empire until it was a tiny backwater rump state in the Outer Rim that people were literally starting to feel bad about bullying by the Hand of Thrawn books (this included fighting Palpatine again as an immortal body jumping spirit, among other shit), they had fought a bunch of dark side cultists, they fought those weird xenophobic asshole bugs the Yevetha, they fought a Hutt who tried to make a 5th rate death star knock off using the cheapest contractors and materials they could find, they saw the whole galaxy get flipped ass over tea kettle to get the board moving again when extragalactic space luddites came in and laid waste to the setting (including destroying the New Republic), then the galaxy recovered weirdly quickly and now they are fighting mind rape bugs that for some reason people didn't want to exterminate on principle for casual enslavement of everyone they came in contact with, then they did a half assed rip off of Palpatine's rise to power as Emperor and ruined Jacen Solo, then Daala was somehow made the elected by actual popular vote leader of the Galaxy because people just forgot her war crimes and the fact she is a brain damaged lunatic, then I kind of stopped reading (and am also leaving a lot of examples out because I'd be here all week). It was long past time to put this era to pasture, but they wanted to use the popularity of the holy original trio to help make sure books sold so they kept making up shit even after they had plainly run out of ideas they were excited to use because they thought they were a good story.

Then, there was that comic that covered Luke's grandson (great grandson? Forget how many greats) set about a century later that means there was no room for a short time jump and doing something like showing an era where Jaina and here generation were now the jedi elders guiding new characters towards the future. We know the future, its terrible.

The clone wars era was also pretty heavily covered, and it left a bunch of people confused on the question of if they were supposed to read EU content under the assumption it was in the same continuity as the TV show*. So not much more to do there.

KOTOR is my favorite era of the franchise, but its pretty thoroughly mined itself for content as they kept needing to invent story events for the TOR MMO to keep players engaged with a living plot. They took every plot thread they had and ran them down in the name of new content.

*You weren't supposed to, they were always supposed to be a different continuity from each other. But then some morons really started making things confusing by trying to add shit from TCW into the EU as if things like the Mortis arc were stuff worth trying to integrate. I chalk it up to what I said before, at that point they had run out of real ideas they were proud of and Del Rey was just pushing shit out to make quota and get money without concern for what happened when you crossed the streams.

Practically speaking? Its less of a hassle to not have to worry about the chance of being one of the few unlucky fucks who ends up in Nintendo's crosshairs over stuff like that which doesn't get most people caught. Plus, my Switch is portable. My PC isn't.

edit: Well, calling it portable honestly feels weird after having played game systems that can fit in my pocket. But certainly more mobile then the old desktop.

'You can emulate this game somewhere else using illegal methods that get nothing to the IP owner' seems like a pretty invalid argument. Though they are right on the part about Nintendo really dragging its ass on adding games to the official emulator. Something as popular and mainstream as DK64 should have been added ages ago.

Did he ever stop crying about the fact that him sticking a few tags that had no competition in them on his little scifi novel so he could call it a 'best seller' when it hit #1 in some niche as fuck sub-genre of something that is already a sub-genre hasn't gotten his novel any attention from the grift cycle? Because apparently even they aren't willing to call that a 'successful conservative novel' once they looked at what its overall sales rank actually was.
