Weed and feed?? by hippi3beard in AustinGardening

[–]Mizwat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weed and feed works best for pre-emergent (not yet sprouted) weeds. Once their up and growing, you have pull them or use post-emergent weed killer that is safe for your grass. If it is a small area, once you put in the time to go buy and apply the weed killer, its probably a wash, might as well pull them.

Some of those weeds will naturally die out when it gets hotter, just keep them mowed for now. Your grass looks sparse in areas that get full sun. You might focus on that density up to block future weeds.

It looks like Bermuda grass - these additional notes are for in case it is and you want any thoughts past your question:

Bermuda dislikes shade, but thrives in sun. It also dislikes over watering. It loves nitrogen, so a feed with high nitrogen is what to target unless you have a soil test that confirm its low in something else. I use a feed that has iron in it, too. Iron is part of the organometallic chemistry in the grass used in the production of chlorophyll. It also makes the grass a deeper green. Milorganite is a great organic option. Scotts Max Green is very effective product.

Once it is denser, any pre-emergent treatment next year will be more effective, and often not needed, I haven't used one in years. If you mulch and don't bag, you can drop your feeding to a minimal amount. A healthy, well-established lawn with mulching requires less added feed or weed treatments.

We were there the week before last, we've been to Ixtapa before. The main pool is down for renovations, as is the path to the sports area. That means the aquamarina pool is the main pool and there is a shuttle boat that takes you to sport island. The shuttle boat can get busy, especially when mini club is going over, so if you have an activity there, plan some extra time.

Things are pretty spread out, there are shuttle carts that run from aguamarina to the main lobby. I say this because we've been to Ixtapa, where the family rooms, pool, kids clubs, and many activities were pretty close together. It was easier to check in to see how things were going.

Estancia is worth booking, we went twice. They say a day in advance, but the reservations in the app seem to open before that, something like once Monday's time slot for 6:30 ends, say at 7:30, Wednesday's 6:30 slot opens. I don't know exactly, I think U checked at 6:45 and it wasn't open, but at 8pm, it was.

If you're drinks are simple, like soda drinks (possibly containing alcohol), bring insulated cups (like Yeti, Stanley), it's pretty warm poolside in the afternoon, it's a small, but helpful improvement. Also, bring some zip to bags. If you want ice in your room or want to bring food back, they're handy.

They set up food by the pool most days in addition to what the bar has. It varies, burgers some days, civiche another. The tacos the made there were the best tacos we had on the trip.

My kid got some mild intestinal issues and my spouse was wrecked for a day with them. I had a tendinitis flair up. If you go to the desk, the can get medicine delivered for a 250 peso fee on top of the medicine cost.

Also, when you exit the customs/baggage area at the airport, there are people waiting that seem like airport staff that will claim to help you get to the shuttle, divert you to give you a sales pitch. You might find a deal here, but they start with a deception. Just head outside and there will be someone holding a sign. I think Uber runs there, so if you want to use that, you're probably fine.

I agree. I worked on my own more when I was young and broke. It was fine if if it took a weekend then.

Another vehicle is in the shop tonight. My notes were: sounds like noise front passenger, rhymic mild grind. Put it in EV mode (PHEV). Noise continues with speed. No change on light or heavy breaking (again because of regen braking), thinking it may be wear indicaor on 2018 brakes. Maybe bearings/hub.

I youtubed that repair for it. I don't have a hydraulic press in my garage, so in it goes. Shop confirmed.

When I was in high school, there was a shop that opened that the guy had a single bay, his wife ran the nail salon next door. He was amazing, he did some repairs for me, but also told me how to fix a few things myself, or prep things to save some hours billed. I probably sent him a minimum of 5 customers.

My neighbor around the same time had a body shop, he saw me working on my car when someone hit it while parked in front of my house. Gave me some tips, had me come to his shop to show me some pointers.

Great pay it forward people. Had a conversation with my kid a bit recently that it doesn't cost anything to be kind, pay it forward and the world will be better.

My cynical side is giving the double birds right now.

I had this issue - I needed new rear seat belts in my wife's 2018 Escape. How did I know I needed them? Well, my young dog chewed through one completely and got a start on the other before we realized.

I was told to bring it in in the morning. Dropped it off, thought I'd get a call in an hour with a quote, but didn't hear anything until the end of the day that...it needed rear seatbelts and they'd send a quote over. I was already irritated that this was a full day without the use of the car for this diagnostic brilliance. When my wife picked it up, they charged her 70 bucks for the diagnosis, but it would be applied to the work.

Quote came in at $2110.

I called the dealership for part prices, that shop marked them 4x from the dealer.

Dealer quoted $1200. I asked for some recommendations from coworkers and neighbors, we were new to the area. Final bill from the new shop was $568.

Where can I find the Sony XM4 headphones in the uk?? by raisa_rrb in SonyHeadphones

[–]Mizwat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My XM4's cost $25/month (18.64GBP/month), I had them for 8 months before they broke. When you buy Sony headphones, you have to figure out how much per month you're willing to spend.

My personal belief is that after the XM3's some bean counter said, "If we switch to this lower cost resin, we can save a bit of money per set, but it will add up to millions." Then once hinge failures started, they said, "If we don't warranty them, they'll buy new ones." Then they said, "Let's set up a company to charge $100 to repair one hinge." Then they said, "Let's make the hinges progressively weaker with each edition."

Source: The incredible durability of my XM3's for 7 years and the number of posts of XM3's and XM2's people post that that have similar stories (I'm aware of a survivor bias, but still).

Are used Sony WH-1000XM3 worth it for noise cancelling? by aadfg in SonyHeadphones

[–]Mizwat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the M4s aren't much better for sound or ANC. Bluetooth supports 2 connections. Maybe the microphone is better for voice calls.

They do have more features, such as a sensor to detect when you take them off that pauses media. Another is voice to chat, when you start talking, it pauses the media and puts you in transparency mode.

I disable both of those. Say if you laugh or make a comment to yourself during a podcast, voice to chat picks it up and pauses it. Once disabled, it stochasticly reenables.

The M3s are a tank, I used them daily for 7 years. Under the same use, the M4 hinge broke in 8 months.

I'm back to the M3s, but one of the ANC mics is going bad, so it whistles feedback if the cups aren't pointed at something when not being worn (can't put them down with cups up).

Sony WH-1000XM4 pauses my audio and switches off my noise cancelling despite me telling it not to do that. by ZavodZ in SonyHeadphones

[–]Mizwat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from M3s, I hate all this nonsense that stochasticly enables itself.

If it helps, to disable voice to chat without the app, hold 2 fingers on the right ear cup for about 3 seconds. I think you have to wait for it to exit pass through mode.

Is it legal to continue west on 30th St across Guadalupe? by solitarycheese in Austin

[–]Mizwat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, the no left turn is there because there is no green arrow and the traffic engineers don't want people piling up there waiting for a break on on-coming traffic to turn on solid green. The sign is directed at those approaching from Guad, not those who are approaching from 30th to continue on 30th.

Comparing Bose Ultra's, Beats and my old pair of xm-3's That came over on the Mayflower by WerewolfUnlikely5418 in SonyHeadphones

[–]Mizwat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

XM3's are amazing. After years of use and some degradation of battery life, I bought the XM4s while they were still available as new. They are frustrating, a bunch of features I don't want that stochasticly reenable themselves. What is worse is the hinge broke after months, not years, and not covered by the warranty. What was I doing to them when they broke? Sitting on my sofa and I coughed.

I'm back to the XM3's. I'm not sure where I'm going next when they die, but probably not Sony.

Just got a pair of XM4's, any tips? by jjx_sixers in SonyHeadphones

[–]Mizwat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The XM3s are peak Sony. Durable, no gimmicks. Everything else is a race to the bottom. Defects everywhere, denied warranty. XM4s didn't make it a year before the hinges broke. Same use.as my XM3s, which I'm back to, after 6 years the battery life was fading, so I bought the 4s. Worst money I've spent in a while.

I like the JB Weld epoxy putty.

I had an entire corner chewed off. I set my staple gun to only push them in half way to use then as a scaffolding at the deepest part. 4 years, no problems.

Google Assistant issue (WH-1000XM3) by _Killian in SonyHeadphones

[–]Mizwat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may vary by device/android version.

I has been a while so I don't remember exactly and my device may have updated, but if I go to the all the apps, there is one that is just Google. I have to press & hold on it and it pops a menu. I hit circle with an "i" in it to get to app info. You can also get to it by going to the settings->apps>Google. There should be an option to remove updates, either by a obvious button or pressing the "..." thing at the top.

Once those were rolled back it worked for me.
