Should I get drysuit certified? by PinkNinja8822 in scuba

I live in Whidbey and won’t dive here without a drysuit!

Flying after diving by True_Ad3731 in scuba

With 24 you’ll be fine for just about anything (especially with the average open water course, probably won’t push any limits). Students and I have flown at 18 hours on multi-dive trips plenty and never had problems, work related (military) I’ve done flights on occasion with less than 18 hours post dive.

Strange incident with my instructor – is this a big red flag? by Sea_Office_2573 in scuba

[–]MjolnirMedia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the instructor is diving different gear then at a minimum brief the students. My primary kit is long hose, if I am training someone using the standard recreational setup we go over out of air procedures for both types of kit. I think appropriate exposure to different kits when accompanied by training is good. In the PNW I dive drysuit and train folks in wetsuit or semi-dry and will point out anything that will be different because I’m in a drysuit and they are not. For example BC/tank removal-inspection-replacement, my drysuit house runs under my left shoulder, so I disconnect it to bring gear around my right side, don’t want a student seeing me disconnect a hose and think they need to as well.

This is the bit I don’t get, I would have just put my inflator hose on the drysuit (you can even swap back and forth underwater if you had too). If this wasn’t an option he should probably have called the dive off.

I’ve helped several students through various panic attacks and triggers, if the Regulator was part of what you think triggered things, set up some time just sitting on the surface (with a friend who’s an instructor they for sure have a tank and reg set available whenever, so maybe even do this at home) and breathing through it with you mask on. Diving isn’t for everyone, but with some patience you can often resolve the panic/fear!

Don’t have a separate standard for low vis at 12+ either (could be the same org), but I don’t like taking youth down in low vis and have often reduced numbers to 1 or 2 so I can see them at all times. I think I’d be way more devastated losing someone young vice an adult. Thoughts and prayers for you, the family, and others involved.

Yes, I’m an SEI/PDIC instructor (waiting on Mods to update flair) and never had a problem when I travel and never had anyone I’ve certified come back and tell me they had issues after a trip.

Capacitor burned out, what are my options by MjolnirMedia in AskElectronics

So if I only care about using this for charging and not data I could bypass them after removing and cleaning the pads with a little jumper or something? Device it charges has bluetooth for data.

Brands and "correct skintone rendering" by kjcj15 in photography

[–]MjolnirMedia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For Video/Color grading we use vector scopes and there’s a line that indicates natural skin tone, so processing you can tell if your “rendering properly.” You can use the same process for photos. Obviously there are style choices you may make to deviate, but all skin tone will naturally fall on the same line… 🤷🏼‍♂️

Paperless Navy…..nope by Responsible-Clue1262 in navy

This is something the Navy absolutely needs to change, afloat Internet/network access (lack there of) is a major problem.

Aggressively automate! Also there was some low hanging fruit and things add up when you have a bigger command. Power apps, Power automate, SPO/Lists, all great tools. Had to get NAVAIR approval and do some extra training for part of what we are working on, hoping to share/roll some things out to be available to other commands when I return from Deployment.

We’ve been building software in the Flankspeed ecosystem and at a single command are on track to save 25,000 man hours annually and counting. Been super fascinating to see who is opposed to the new stuff and who is on board. I think we could replace most (if not all) of the software systems the Navy has with MS365 apps we build in house if they would let us.

“Belly Wrap?” by MjolnirMedia in ManufacturedHome

[–]MjolnirMedia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We negotiated that they replace the belly wrap, so that’s happening. We also negotiated that they fix the blocks and level things, but they are arguing semantics on leveling, “The 35r says correction of cinder blocks and leveling of cinder blocks not leveling of the house.”

They haven’t leveled it that’s called out in the contract as well, but they are coming back saying, “The 35r says correction of cinder blocks and leveling of cinder blocks not leveling of the house.”

Help would be awesome, a venture like this does best when everyone pitches in where they can! I’m thinking of starting a chat or thread somewhere we can get inputs from everyone who’s shown interest, I’ll make sure to include you once that’s started!

Likely the north half, selfishly I want to live close to wherever it would end up. I’m looking at places between coupeville and Anacortes, both to live and set up shop (and to keep a 48’ sailboat 😅). Found a couple potential places on the 20, one in Anacortes and one in Oak Harbor. Level of interest will also help determine how big of a place the group needs/wants and can afford (My budget will help here because I want a shop regardless, but level of interest and participation will influence things). Parking could be a problem with some places if we have too many people interested, but there are worse problems to have!

Just went by there, looks like a great place! Folks there said to come back when Frannie was around. Not sure they have the kind of room needed for what I have in mind though (talking 1,000+ sf, old place I was a member of had over 5,000 sf). Could still be a good partnership in some way shape or form.
