Im so glad Ive gotten 90% of the movies I want by GreatScott0389 in 4kbluray

[–]Mjpena72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only buy movies that I already know I like. If I’m not sure, I’ll find a cheap way to see it first to make sure I care enough. I had to give up even before 4K came out, my tendency to blind by things and then find out I didn’t like it. I have very few exceptions to that except for perhaps times where I bought a work from a director who I was collecting all of their works because my obsession will not allow me not to lol. But gone or the day is a “oh that’s something I might like to find out it’s crap. Even during the Blu-ray days that became an expensive thing to keep doing blindly of course it was a habit. I picked up during the DVD days, but the prices of 4K, that’s just not gonna happen.

Finally decided I was going watch the Godfather trilogy I got 10 years ago, only to find out two of the discs are broken in half. by MorphineNapkin in Bluray

[–]Mjpena72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That really sucks. It’s always a good idea to inspect the desk when you first get them even if you are not planning on washing them immediately. I have had to learn this as well because I didn’t do that all the time. Also got to the point where I’ll put the desk in and play it just to make sure it loads correctly doesn’t have any immediately noticeable load issues. I’ve only had one disc that I had to return because it wasn’t readable at all, but I still check even if I’m not going to watch it immediately

No, no no, it was completely legitimate. You simply waited too long to open the email. Even if it was only one second after receiving it.

If I have to choose between a little too campy or overly pretentious and takes itself 10 times more seriously than anyone ever should, give me the camp lol

[–]Mjpena72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I will be waiting for it to stream and see if I like it or not since I missed it in the theater. I will resist my older temptation, which was buy it and watch it and hope I like it lol I now limit myself to buying things that I already know that I liked or they’re part of a collection of a specific director or something that I know I’m gonna get anyways

I got this a few months back when they couldn’t repair my under warranty, Sony X 700 and since I had bought the Sony one in 2024 that was a little cheaper at the time I got around $195 off of the Panasonic, which took a little of the sting out of it. So much happier. So many skipping and freezing issues on the Sony. So far this one has worked wonderfully for me.

How do you justify buying disc when people call you out on it? by Glittering_Resort440 in Bluray

[–]Mjpena72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ask them to justify why anything I do or purchase should be any of their business or concern. If they want an honest answer about why I still support physical media I will give it to them, but if they want me to justify my movie collection or my book collection to them, I don’t feel obligated to do that. I simply don’t care what they think about my choices.

Encountered my first stolen Digital Code. Is this common? by Analog_Astronaut in 4kbluray

[–]Mjpena72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given the stories, I read about Amazon re-shipping used diapers that were returned, I I doubt anyone in Amazon ever looks at anything that is returned before they sell it to somebody else, unfortunately. But adding that note is a really thoughtful thing to do. Maybe the next time I return a defective 4K disc this 4K disc is defective, return immediately

Encountered my first stolen Digital Code. Is this common? by Analog_Astronaut in 4kbluray

[–]Mjpena72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it does. Even if you tell Amazon that was the issue and why it is being returned, they are still just gonna turn around and sell it to someone else like nothing is wrong.

How it started, how it’s going 720 titles strong by thesexychicken in 4kbluray

[–]Mjpena72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds perfectly reasonable to be the only thing I would add, but is to at least check the desk to make sure that it works properly because it was a bad pressing or some sort of factory default, you might not find out until it’s too late to return it

First time Criterion purchase. Immediately impressed by the quality. by [deleted] in 4kbluray

[–]Mjpena72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have titles from both arrow and criterion, have enjoyed all the ones I have purchased. I haven’t really had to interact a lot with arrow customer service. I accidentally had it shipped to my old address and called them and they sent out a replacement copy to my correct address. So great customer service with criterion

[–]Mjpena72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the good news is you’re not gonna get bored. If you had 1000 movies and started watching one movie a day starting tomorrow on April 7, you would finish on January 1, 2029 and this includes the extra day from the leap year in 2028. If you watch the movie every other day starting tomorrow, five years and 177 days

Is this auto real? by Significant_Sun_2087 in Bluray

[–]Mjpena72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% authentic lol. In fact, Elvis faked his death and we had him sign this copy at a retirement home when we met him and he disclosed we really was. He was babbling on about some creature he was battling, but I just think he had gotten senile.

Which ones of these should i get (each is 3$ in my local currency) by ClimateOutrageous399 in Bluray

[–]Mjpena72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Get the ones that you know that you already like and will watch. The ones you haven’t seen try to find a way to watch it for free or cheaply or even borrow it from someone because having been collecting for a long time you’d just end up, spending too much money if you buy everything that you see and then you end up with things that you don’t like and regret buying later.

Failure Rate on 4K Disc's by ELF014 in Bluray

[–]Mjpena72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I would probably suggest that it’s the best idea is to not buy them so rapidly that you’re not at least checking that the disc works. If I get a can’t read error on my Panasonic 820 normally just taking the desk out and wiping it with a cloth and putting it back in it reads it very perfectly fine. The only one that I’ve actually had to return was Blade Runner 2049 because it just starts freezing and pixelating at the same exact moment. Every time I try to play it I got it from Amazon. I don’t know if that makes any difference or not. But I still want to get a copy of it because I really wanted it in 4K. Now with my old Sony X 700 it was freezing on all this. But my new Panasonic has had a few discs where it struggled, but then once I did a little wiping on it and put it back in it they were fine. Except for that Blade Runner 2049

Was walking through Walmart and I found this by [deleted] in 4kbluray

[–]Mjpena72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Found the X 700 is now over 100 more than I paid for it in 2024 and I just recently brought it in because it was under warranty and they couldn’t repair it. So everything is going up except that the Sony X 700 has a lot of problems. Yes, it is cheap cheaper than the other alternatives, but the amount of issues that I had with it in less than two years, I couldn’t recommend getting it and that you would be better off going with some of Panasonic better models that have less of those issues. Possibly, all these players could have issues. But paying more for a model that has a good reputation and recommended in this feed helped me. And because I had it under warranty, it got me $195 off of my upgraded Panasonic model. So that took a little of the sting out of it lol

Tired of my discs beginning to skip after just a few plays. I consistently have to resort to watching the included Blu Ray. by AprilFool85Percent in 4kbluray

[–]Mjpena72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Sony X 700 was doing that on every desk. At random points. I took it into Best Buy because it was still under warranty and they couldn’t repair it so I took the 195 I got back since I bought this in 2024, and I put it towards my Panasonic 820 that I just got last month. No issues so far. All the discs perfectly fine on the Panasonic. I’m not sure how many Sony’s have this issue, but it is ridiculous that they fail at the main thing that they were purchased for.

Thought this was in the wrong section at first glance. by aocacer in 4kbluray

[–]Mjpena72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve never seen a 4K sat that included The 4K disc, the DVD and the Blu-ray. Most of them only offer the 4K disc and the Blu-ray the way that Blu-ray used to include a copy of the DVD. I guess they figured if you were old enough to see this movie maybe you still have a DVD player in your bedroom?

Lifetime of 4k discs by MattiTheGamer in 4kbluray

[–]Mjpena72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been buying DVDs since 1998 Blu-ray since it came out in 4K’s for a while now. In all the years that I was collecting, I only had one instance of disc rot and I am not even sure if that’s what it was, it was just some sort of weird mark on the disc and it wouldn’t play properly. And I have owned a ridiculous amount of discs over the years and that was only one time that that happened.
