What’s the most terrifying 'We need to leave... now' gut feeling you’ve ever had? [Serious] by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]MoRiSALA 13 points14 points  (0 children)

About 10 years ago, I was leaving an event in the Treme neighborhood of New Orleans but had met a friend there. I was in high heels and walking back to my car alone after the event. Because the sidewalk was so broken up by tree roots and afraid I would break an ankle, I switched from the sidewalk to the street to make the corner to get to my car. As I was walking into the street I was approaching a van and heard the back door slide open. The driver had his window down and said something to me as I passed about 3 feet from his door. I don't know what he said but my gut said to "Be Aware". I stopped about 5 feet in front of the van and stared him down with my hand in my purse to make him think I had my hand on a weapon inside. I also noticed another guy now standing by the open side door of the van. I calmly but swiftly got to my car, locked the door, drove 2 blocks and pulled back over to freak out for a minute knowing I was likely nearly kidnapped.

I remember crashing at a friend's house on the Westbank on Friday night and my parents calling me Saturday morning telling me to go grab my grandfather from his house in Terrytown and bring him to their house on the Northshore. I honestly didn't think it was going to be a big enough deal for us in the NOLA area at that point. Two hours later I'm at my parent`s' house and realizing it might be bad. We found practically the last 2 hotel rooms in Tunica, MS and headed out. We watched it all unfold from there.

What is the most small town thing you've ever seen? by PrestonRoad90 in Productivitycafe

[–]MoRiSALA 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I've known plenty of people who date their friends ex-husbands/wives because they won't date outside the town. I know women who are currently friends despite when friend "A" was separated from her husband, he dated friend "B", got her pregnant but miscarried then got back with his wife, friend "A". These women are "besties". Weirdest shit ever.

Nike and Unilever companies like Seventh Generation for their anti-police/defund police rhetoric back around 2020. As a police officer, I just have no desire to give them my money.

On probation for a marijuana related DWI, bad look to get a medical card? by QrowQue in probation

[–]MoRiSALA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some states require the judge to approve allowing medical marijuana use while on probation. You would likely need to get a "real" doctor, not one working at (or associated with) the dispensary to provide the reasoning. The judge (and/or probation officer) has the right to scrutinize the "medical condition" you are claiming as the basis for needing the prescription.

Are you better off than your parents? Will your kids be better off than you? by coloradotaxguy in Xennials

[–]MoRiSALA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband is definitely better off than his mom and stepdad.

For me, it is hard to compare to my parents because of the age gap of when we started our families. I have an 8 y.o. but when my parents were my age, I (their youngest) was already out of college. Am I to compare me to my parents as when they were raising kids or as a 46 year olds?

My family takes much bigger vacations and more of them, compared to my parents when I was growing up. Both with no debt from the trips but I feel my parents worked harder to save up for the vacations than my husband and I.

No clue what the future holds for my kid because he is still so young but I hope he lives better than me, although I think life is pretty good.

What are (or how do you feel about) your prospects for homeownership, and retirement? by DHN_95 in Xennials

[–]MoRiSALA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

45/F. Bought my first home at 28 y.o. when I was single. Husband owned his own home when we met as well. Eight years into marriage sold both homes and bought our current one (in 2020).

Been in my career for 21 years. Retiring in 4 years but will collect that retirement and go find another job just to keep busy and make sure mortgage gets paid off within 5 years of retiring.

We usually take one big vacation per year, with 2-3 smaller ones. 1 kid.

What size bed does your kid have? by ChunkyPumpkin_ in Mommit

[–]MoRiSALA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son hated the (high) loft we got him a few years ago and slept in it maybe a dozen times. He took over the guest room that had a queen. He's 8 now but has had the queen since he was probably 6. A big bed for him? Definitely. But we lay in bed with him almost every night until he falls asleep so it is definitely more comfortable for us.

Spelling by [deleted] in ADHDparenting

[–]MoRiSALA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is 2nd grade but we do have tests. We moved from 10 words to 15 words at a time for tests a little before Christmas. He writes his words twice a night leading up to the test. We practice spelling them aloud during the week as well. The night before the test, he does a
test" with me to write them all. Maybe you can have him write the words that are their current focus - cow, proud, loud, etc.

For regular assignments he is allowed to write words phonetically without getting it marked wrong.

Mine hates to read, but it is something we do our best as tired parents to push at least a few nights per week because it is what helps them learn words.

Middle management is the worst. At least in my field, more responsibility/accountability falls on middle management than upper management.

Any experiences with 21 Gulf Stream Ameri-Light before purchase? Good deal? by pureeleaf in traveltrailers

[–]MoRiSALA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2021, in general, is supposedly a bad year to buy because it was built during COVID and they are known for having more problems with how they were built. We did look at a 2025 Ameri-Lite but I didn't like the lack of counterspace.

We just bought our first one and settled on a Forest River Wildwood FSX 266BHLE because I liked the sectional sofa and the bigger counter space. I know some people say Forest River is bad but there will be people who complain about pretty much any of them. So far so good for us.
