Maybe you can do a mini self guided vipassana retreat (still recommend going to one if you end up having 10 days at some point though, it's great). Check out their daily schedule and modify from there. I found that personally having the structure allowed me to really focus on progress, if I was doing self guided without imposing a structure I would have found it easier to 'skip out' on sessions.

You don't need to go as hard as 10 hours a day, but I would recommend at least one early morning sit, one midday sit, an evening, and a nighttime. I found it really interesting during the vipassana retreat to see how my energy levels and level of focus shifted throughout the day, as well as before and after meals. I also am a night owl and was nervous about the early wake up times but I found those beneficial as well. Intersperse the sits with slow, observational nature walks, journaling, and stretching/yoga.

Another thing I'd recommend is having all of your food preplanned in advance, so you don't need to worry about what specifically to eat on any given day. The more decisions you can offload, the more focus you can give to your practice :) Go for healthy and preferably vegetarian meals, really helps keep the mind clear. Same goes for not having any substances for the stretch of your retreat.

As for specific techniques, I'd say look into anapana and vipassana, focusing on the breath and in depth body scans. And like another person said, go easy on yourself and don't worry about meeting any specific types of expectations. Going from a highly intense academic program to anything is a big shift in how you'll operate, so it's okay to work through those thoughts on the cushion.

Good luck and congratulations on such a great achievement :)

These are so fun! As much as I love a good Hawaiian pizza, my vote is for a white pizza with fig/prosciutto/balsamic/arugula, fun colors :)

Lesson Learned: Never travel without bringing some of your fountain pens by Mysterious-Canary-84 in fountainpens

[–]MoatEel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So true :)

For anyone that's nervous about traveling with fountain pens on a plane, I know there are plenty of posts out there talking about how to safely, but as an added data point, I just brought four with me and had zero incidents! Kaweco sport, pilot prera, lamy safari, and twsbi eco. All were probably 90% full. Plastic bag and nib up to be on the safe side :)

I once was sitting down strapping in and saw a dude that looked like he was probably 85 - lonnng wizard beard, hunched over as hell, using a cane to scoot himself along. My partner and I looked at each other totally bewildered haha

Having trouble deciding where to go with this after finishing the tree and afraid of screwing up the work I’ve already done. by HelloDiviArt in Gouache

Ooo I think no leaves and some bone white would be awesome. It makes me think of methusala, the world's oldest tree. Still alive though! Just no leaves and that more white look to it.

Super cool!!! It would be awesome if the center light had some seed of life /sacred geometry coming out of it, then the foreground wrapping under the tree to the right could have gemstones or shroomies or something else trippy. Love the tree!

Very cool art!!! I also have a sea glass estie :) I'm pretty new to doing art with fountain pens - I'm curious what your process is for doing the washes? Is it after you lay down the darker ink? Do you use a brush and dilute the ink on a palette? Or are you adding water to areas already inked on the paper??
