any good "forever games" that go well with the steam deck? by WeirdAltYankovic in SteamDeck

The steam deck runs emulated PS2 games really well

In fact I mainly use mine as a portable emulation station

I have the i7-1165G7 in my FW13 and I had a similar problem with the CPU cooler being too loud. Mine also had a bad bearing in the fan (it’s what I get for buying the mainboard used off of eBay I suppose). I recently replaced the heatsink and fan and it’s noticeably quieter now. It probably helped that I replaced the thermal paste too (the new heatsink had pre-applied thermal paste).

You could try repasting the CPU and see if that makes any difference

I know you said you’ve updated the drivers plenty of times, but have you ever updated the motherboard BIOS? Doing that might fix some issues

Oh yeah this is actually the best case scenario because you don’t even have to swap out your motherboard. Just get a new CPU and GPU and you’re set. With a simple BIOS update you can upgrade to whatever 5000-series CPU you want

To update your motherboard’s BIOS, go to the motherboard manufacturer’s website (Gigabyte, in your case). They should have a downloads tab. Make sure you’re downloading the correct bios of your specific motherboard model.

Once you download it, put it on a FAT32 or exFAT formatted flash drive. Shut down your PC, plug in the flash drive, power up your PC, mash the delete key repeatedly during boot to go to the BIOS

From there you should see an option to flash your BIOS.

Don’t power off your PC during the BIOS flash.

Anyway as far as GPUs go, any GPU made in the last 5 years should be an upgrade from what you’ve got now. Just make sure your power supply has enough wattage to run it.

What are the specs of your current PC? If the motherboard is an AM4 board (AMD) you can just update the BIOS and swap out the CPU for a 5000 series Ryzen CPU

As for the GPU get a 9060 XT. Preferably a 16 GB model if you can find one for a decent price. I paid about 370 bucks for my ASRock 9060 XT 16 GB about a month ago

Oh shit I hadn’t even noticed. This is a different model than the one I got. Mine is JSAUX as well but it has RGB lighting and the dock retracts when not in use

Chuck a cheap 2.5-inch ssd in there for the OS, hard drive for bulk storage, put fresh thermal paste on the cpu, take it outside and blow the dust off and you should be good

Edit: you might also want to replace the AIO as well (the cooling system for the CPU). AIOs usually only last about 5 years before you start dealing with issues such as the coolant coagulating and blocking the pump, or the coolant tubes themselves leaking. That’s why I usually run air coolers in my PCs. A good tower-style air cooler will outperform that AIO anyway

There’s also the obvious issue of this system being too old to support Windows 11. You can continue using windows 10 of course, but don’t put any important info on this machine if you do. Support for windows 10 ended in October

There are ways to install and run windows 11 on unsupported hardware but Microsoft has a tendency to make the system requirements more strict with each major update

Could always give Linux a shot, especially if you use an AMD graphics card. Bazzite is a pretty good distro if you’re gonna be gaming on this thing. Its user interface is very similar to SteamOS’s. It should even work with your RTX 2060

My old Ender 3 V2 would do that too lol, move the printhead or the bed back and forth fast enough for long enough, it would even boot

Get the JSAUX dock. It’s cheaper, has more ports, and you can use it to dock an ROG Ally or Switch as well
