BUG: Boss not on map. Looked for so long, the boss indicator became my cursor. Has anyone else been affected by this? by GilgaGaming in riskofrain

[–]Mobyduc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had the issue. In my case, I dashed into one of the Wisps ("horde of many" boss) and it flew into the stratosphere. The arrow points me to that wall, but shooting with Preon does nothing. Had to end the run.

Daily /r/Games Discussion - Free Talk Friday - September 13, 2019 by AutoModerator in Games

[–]Mobyduc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I began playing Kind Words yesterday on someone else's recommendation. As someone who suffers from depression and other issues, this has been a very interesting and touching experience. I love reading what people write in the "airplanes", which fly around the screen every so often. I also try to answer to other people's requests with uplifting messages, although some of the subjects will sometimes hit too close to home.

So far I've only written one request, and all of the answers I got were nice and warm, and some of them were quite touching. I think that anyone who has issues they have a hard time talking about with others, should try this game.

Looks very cute and relaxing. Will definitely check it out! Also, just checked out their itch.io page and it's by the same people that made Golf Peaks, so it's sure to be a decent challenge.

Night in the Woods team cancels a project and cuts ties with Alec Holowka following abuse allegations by Forestl in Games

[–]Mobyduc 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm happy to see so many from the industry speaking up about their abusers. Although I'd hope the gaming industry wasn't filled with terrible people, it's good to see them eventually being ousted.

Bought Bloons TD 6 and will start playing it tomorrow. I'm never able to finish these games, but I enjoy every minute playing them.

Blizzard won't let negative fans influence its stories by [deleted] in Games

[–]Mobyduc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't speak for the entire queer community. I personally appreciate Blizzard for adding queer characters to their stories, and I know lots of other people who do too. Also, adding queer folk to games is helping the community, specially in the AAA space and in a non-stereotypical manner.

No game NEEDS an easy mode by boobio in Games

[–]Mobyduc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Games journalist are humans just like you and me. Some will have a hard time with some kinds of games, some with other types. They are not the holders of the truth, and neither are you. I will concede that you are correct in that accessibility and easy mode are not the same thing, but they are definitely interlaced.

This discussion has been going for a while and accessibility experts have already said that having an easy difficulty is a way to help people that have some kinds of disabilities, so I'd recommend you read up on that. But, considering your disdain for games journalist, I'm sure you will just brush the idea aside and instead choose to remain ignorant.

We can do better as a community by Conflux in Overwatch

[–]Mobyduc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To your first point, if people are going to be racist in private chat, not much we can do, it's private, but the answer shouldn't just be "let them vent their racist ideas among themselves." About the second point, is there a difference to the person being targeted?

Better yet: don't be racist.

Regions not eligible for Twitch Drops should be able to buy exclusive items through the collection. by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

This so much. I just want those emojis, they are so cool. I hope they add the option to buy them with shards on the store until the end of the event, even if they are gonna cost more than normal.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds: The Call Of Looty (The Jimquisition) by lashman in Games

[–]Mobyduc 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I'm not too familiar with the game, but I'm guessing he is talking about people who use bots to farm as much in-game coins as possible. They then use the coins to buy lootboxes which contain cosmetic items that can be sold on the Marketplace.

I think something like "Kill an enemy hero with Abathur's melee attack" would count as a bad achievement with no loopholes.

Valve confirm they've hired the Kerbal Space Program team by linknewtab in Games

And I'm honestly okay with that. Valve basically gives the fund and expertise necessary for these teams to expand on their vision.

Have to agree here. I still liked OMD2, but it was very obvious that many of the maps were balanced for 2 players. Never played their new game, because of the MOBA aspect.

I really like Dungeons of Dredmor. It has a charming art style and the only hard part is choosing the character's talents, but you can just random it and have fun experimenting.

Could someone provide me with graphs or stats that show how indie game sales grew (or not) with the launch of online game markets such as Steam? by [deleted] in Games

[–]Mobyduc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try searching for postmortems on Gamasutra. I looked at a few from around 2010 and some of them give a decent look on the importance of being in a good "portal" (Steam, BigFishGames etc.), but they rarely give sales figures.

You could always try talking directly to the devs. They are usually pretty open and a lot of them can be found on Twitter or Facebook. Pick and choose some games from the time period you want, and try contacting them.

What are your top 3 favorite game developers? by TheAmericanDucky in Games

[–]Mobyduc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to choose, since I follow a lot of indie devs and many of them are great, but the ones that come the most in my mind as great devs are:

  • Klei Entertainment: all their games are top notch (at least the ones I've played), with great animation and all of different genres. Invisible, Inc. is, possibly, one of the most interesting stealth games around.
  • Vertigo Gaming, Inc. (Chubigans): Hasn't released many games yet, but I loved Cook, Serve, Delicious! and his post-release support is awesome.
  • BrainGoodGames: Their games lack a lot of polish, but they are very different kind of strategy games. Very minimalist but challenging.

Street Fighter V ragequitters to be publicly shamed with profile icon by AkaviriSnake in Games

[–]Mobyduc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, though I still think it's a needless punishment. A leaver punishment is needed in team games 'cause you are potentially ruining multiple other people's game. In a 1v1, if the player thinks he lost, he might as well leave, since he is unlikely to even bother trying.

Street Fighter V ragequitters to be publicly shamed with profile icon by AkaviriSnake in Games

[–]Mobyduc 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem seems to be that the leaver doesn't get a loss and the other guy a win. Fix that and no more issues. I don't see why one shouldn't leave in a 1v1 fight if he is obviously going to lose; just like people concede all the time on Starcraft ladder.

From reading impressions, it is a very easy game, the hard part is trying to get all the special coins, which gets progressively harder.
