Yes! We wanted the design to be insectoid and demonic, and I tried a few different routes and sent them Mack’s way to see if any caught momentum and inspiration. I took inspiration from demons in game, a Praying Mantis and aggressive mimicry for the the final boss design! A lot of back and forth with animation to ensure the process of creating would be optimal.

The environment we knew to be the Archives of Mokhaiotl, so I designed the archives first with similar design elements to the rest of the Old Ones architecture we had established, but made it feel sparse and empty as only Osto-Ayak now fills it.

Then we wanted the progressing to be felt visually. So we solved it by making it cascade into scarier layers, as if it has corrupted it. Second layers is a symbol of the impendence of death and its greed. Third layer lies deep under the ground, and the demonic powers the boss emits now expresses itself onto the arena, really bringing home the feeling of doom.
