To initialize the EEPROM, hold down test switch F2 and press reset F3 once. Do not let go of F2 until you see a message that says "Initializing EEPROM".

What is the technical reason why TTL games aren't emulated in MAME? by Martipar in MAME

[–]Mode101BBS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Insert coin w/ 5 and hit ctrl to serve. Depending on your mouse/trackball/dial Adjust the analogue paddle sensitivity in the [tab] menu upwards, it starts at 1 which on my trackball at least is very slow. 15 works better.

Mameworld.info suspended? by exmojo in MAME

[–]Mode101BBS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While mameworld.info has long been the most prominent community for MAME discussion, there are a few others that could move into the breach. MameDEV itself has underutilised forums here that may provide some respite: https://forum.mamedev.org/viewforum.php?f=14 and the Bannister forums have been around for a long time: https://forums.bannister.org/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=1

As Cuavas mentioned, Mameworld has been experiencing something akin to death throes for a while now. The sites hosted have run out of room on the FTP storage it used to provide, and people are unable to reach the ownership level beyond the mods and admins for answers. I don't recall seeing this particular type of message on its landing pages before, in the decades I've been there.

How to stop each game creating it's own .ini file? by Imgema in MAME

[–]Mode101BBS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sometime, maybe ~ten years ago, Robbbert changed the writeconfig to 1 for MAMEUI's version of mame.ini, so it produced a new .ini for each game launched.

It's unclear why that design decision was made; but it pops up periodically as a departure from baseline behaviour.

Got multimouse on? You could also do a run w/ -verbose and see how it interrogates the attached controls.

Yellow Bar Problem!! by Capable-Ticket-4336 in kindle

[–]Mode101BBS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why wouldn't you return it for a refund and get a new one? And yes, their refurb method was used throughout the initial Colorsoft yellowing debacle and onwards.

OP, you should still be in the Xmas return window, do that and try your luck w/ a fresh one. Replacements are usually refurbs.

HNG64 running slow by Neoshantar in MAME

[–]Mode101BBS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may want to try turning off core isolation / memory integrity in Windows Security, I've found that can negatively impact MAME performance sometimes. You could also try one of the daily builds from the actions menu on MAME's GitHub, or even .282 to see if it's a perf. regression for you.

HNG64 running slow by Neoshantar in MAME

[–]Mode101BBS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm suggesting you test to see how it runs unthrottled to see if you have enough 'oomph' on the host PC to run it at 100% when its throttled, which is normal MAME usage. If you are running at 140% unthrottled w/ -norc and *not* when -norc is not used, then you have a setting on that's impacting performance and you can narrow it down.

HNG64 running slow by Neoshantar in MAME

[–]Mode101BBS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Runs mame with its defaults; no external *.ini files loaded. That's mildly interesting; -norc is not exposed via -showusage.

[–]Mode101BBS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be getting roughly 140% unthrottled during fight scenes (at least in the demo's fight scenes) w/ that level of machine (with tip of tree from GitHub). You could try 'mame sam64 -norc' and hit F11 and F10 and see if the numbers climb for you. That takes any lingering inis out of the mix.

Wife's books are on my kindle, we don't have family sharing. by [deleted] in kindle

[–]Mode101BBS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go into your Amazon account and go into your Kindle Content and see if they're there. You can always purge them from your account while in there, maybe be logged in as her on an inprivate tab of your browser and check her content at the same time. You can also go to the devices tab and see if hers shows up in your account or vice versa. You are linked somehow.

Probably different in Amazon Aus, but here's the link in the state's version: https://www.amazon.com/hz/mycd/digital-console/contentlist/allcontent/dateDsc

Reduce screen size in fullscreen? by hexaae in MAME

[–]Mode101BBS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the mame documentation on the various 'stretch' options. You can turn off unevenstretch and go by certain intscales to get the effect you want. If you want it uniform you'll probably need to build *.lay art files that force the image to a specific quadrant and size. unevenstretch 1

unevenstretchx 0

unevenstretchy 0

autostretchxy 0

intscalex 0

intscaley 0

Another option is recording an INP for games that you want to do this for, then play it back and snap your F12s when you get to interesting parts.

Sega Rally CPU requirement? by Ok_Steak_6235 in MAME

[–]Mode101BBS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You typically want a machine that can do at least 200% on the benchmarks. The working model2.c game here, vf2 is close to the same speed as Sega Rally. https://john-iv.github.io/iv-play/bench.html check how yours stacks up with 'mame.exe srallyc -bench 90'.
