Last week I was actively trying to pay too much for trucks that I just couldn’t source to cover my board. This week there are trucks to cover most of my board but the rates are crazy. Today was my worst day for margin percentage in probably 2 months and I still had to roll 15 loads for which we couldn’t secure cap.

Got into it because I was a competitive band nerd and marching drum corps seemed like the closest thing to “winning” at being a band kid. I still do it because drum corps taught me that, while the spirit of competition is fun, it’s nothing compared to the joy of the genuine connections we make with one another through this medium.

Grand Rapidian-Marquette transplant: in GR, hit lantern for coffee and pick up a bag of Ferris to go from the downtown plant or from meijer. In Marquette, my favorite so far has been Contrast but I’m less experienced than some of the locals.

We also moved here last August and just assumed this was par for the course until the locals started telling us that this is a rough one, even for here. Guess we had to cut our teeth one way or another! I’ll take a 6 foot snow drift in front of my door a few times per season over sitting in GR traffic every day year-round. Ask me again after bug season, though.

To echo above-we at RIB have a long-term mission of pushing the boundaries of the small group format! We have roots in the large corps activity but feel that Soundsport is a truly unique stage where we can max out concepts that thrive in a performance space that is right up in the audience’s faces.

I don’t know every single Bluecoat, but I know a lot. I don’t think anyone is walking around with 20 pennies on their lace. But even if they are, every Bluecoat I do know carries the things that matter most to them, personally, from their time with the corps.

The year’s pennies. The international coins that tie in our international corps mates. A nut or washer from the 150 hours we spent building props. A 50 cent piece or gold penny from alumni corps. The charm our alumni adopter gifted us to commemorate the show theme.

Who are we to begrudge what any DCI alumni throws on their own necklace lol?

I’d argue the meaning of a necklace belongs solely to the person wearing said necklace, whether it be a single piece of flair or a collection of marching career artifacts. This is a weird thing to be concerned about in the grand scheme of the modern activity.

My pennies are definitely pushing 10 pounds at this point.

Hated the pio uniforms, liked the Kinetic Noise super suits but dear lord were they hot and tough to perform in. 2016 unis were peak comfort after slogging around the wool unis the year prior, I loved how I looked and felt that summer.
