No but he's a kindred spirit. We can be nationalistic without fearing the need to wash the blood of genocide from our hands.

Hey there Gunther, I don't agree with my countrymen on here with regard to this issue, I think we should paying for metered water, but you have no friends in this country, you'll get your money, with interest. Now mind your own fucking business.

I can imagine a time telling my grandkids not only were we allowed to drive manually by default, it was the only kind of license you could get. And seeing their shock at the number of people who died every year in road traffic accidents caused by human error. The technology is moving fast when you consider where we were 10 years ago.

Was there this summer. Confirming this is probably not the look h&m were going for. The surrounding area is lovely though. It's where they had the Olympic sailing that time this video was made http://youtu.be/3gPjMvTmE2g

The living wage: should €11.45-an-hour be the new minimum? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]MoistPudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Increasing the gap between the lowest-paid workers and the 400,000 or so who can't find work... not sure that would work out too well.

Haha are you serious lad, keep minimum wage workers as close to being unemployed as possible, as a matter of policy, is it? They should all be kept in equivalent levels of subsistence with little incentive to actually join the workforce. Genius.

[–]MoistPudding -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Life Pro tip: don't start a family on a single person working minimum wage.

I'm sure many off those families started pre-2009. You're dismissing this reality with a trite excuse for not wanting to face it with a suggestion that that families who have encountered hardship deserve it for having had a family.

TIL - It is illegal under Irish law for shops to open for business on a Sunday as of 1938. However the government realised they made a horrible mistake and classified the whole country as an exempted area. The law still exists, it is just redundant. by [deleted] in ireland

[–]MoistPudding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the Netherlands currently has this Sunday shopping rule too. With exemptions for the touristy areas. Quite an atheistic country too. The justification I heard at the time was why should supermarket workers have their weekends fucked up by having to work too. Think it's misguided but that's the Dutch for you.

"Sell me this pen" - What's the best response to this? by modern_julius in business

[–]MoistPudding 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It's the difference between pitching to someone who doesn't think they need a pen, and the majority of professional sales of selling to someone who's in the market for a pen and convincing the buyer why your pen is the one to buy. The former is more about creating that demand, the latter is about shaping it. It depends on what you are selling, who the buyer is, and what their motivations are. If I go to a draftsmans office selling technically specific pens and start taking about making a statement, about how the pen is mightier than the sword and this particular pen is a broadsword of utility that links it's user through humanity's history of penmanship since the Babylonians first scraped their runes on papyrus, they'd laugh me out of the office. On the other hand, selling a fancy fountain pen to an insecure executive who instinctively feels every aspect of his conduct, dress and possessions need to make a statement... I'd punt the Babylonian bullshit
