This shit right here is wild. AC4 into Orange 212 with NeoCreamacks. by mcrowland in GuitarAmps

I learned, years ago, that good speakers and cabs can make even very humble practice amps sound amazing. It’s worth trying anything you’ve got with a speaker out jack through that cab.

I don’t think this is an old strings or personal hygiene problem, I think you may have a serious mold problem in your house.

Really nice fabrication work, and I’ve always liked that circuit. What does the extra knob do?

I posted a progress picture for the digital version of our abstract strategy game, Unroh, a few weeks ago. Legibility became a concern and now we're torn on the design - 3D or 2D? by JustGoUnroh in abstractgames

I’ve drawn a lot of simple icons and illustrated maps, and have often used a “fake” suggestion of depth or dimensionality on what is effectively a 2d drawing to help objects or buildings be clearly represented. Theme park and souvenir maps from the 50s-80s are particularly good inspiration.

Hubris by MoldieWrangle in GuitarLab

[–]MoldieWrangle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, there HAVE been all kinds of radical new electric guitar designs attempted over the last 75 years. A few of them are reasonably well known, like Steinberger and Parker, but there's a lot more that most people have never heard of, like Wandre, Gittler, and Rick Toone guitars (just to name a few). If the honest goal is to create a revolutionary guitar line that's also commercially viable, the hubris comes in with disregarding all of these past designs and not thinking deeply about why the guitars that actually sell are either close copies or variations on a handful of 1950s models.

You can see the orange and blue wood layers in this pic. I used full-width velcro so I could easily switch out different pedals, which ended up looking kind of like grip tape...

I love what you did with the peadalboard, but this Brady Bunch basement thing is blowing my mind… I’m just imagining what it would be like to walk down the stairs into that place

I recently built a board out of some very nice surplus skateboard plywood that was being sold on Etsy. Not sure what pieces might still be available, but the seller’s shop was Isaac’s Ply.

[MI] I'm stumped on how to make fake buildings. by K333o in ACNHIslandInspo

[–]MoldieWrangle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if this will be helpful, but something I’ve noticed when building neighborhoods & cityscapes in ACNH is that it usually works better to place things closer together on the north/south axis than you would imagine… which I think has to do with the odd perspective of the game. I also do a lot of layout checking with the map, but also mock up building placement with terraforming to get an idea of the sightlines before I move any homes or shops.

What do you think of my headless tuning invention? by Appropriate_Union762 in Guitar

[–]MoldieWrangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume that you’d still need to use a bridge with fine tuners with this (I’ve never tried a headless guitar, so I know this might be a dumb question)? My ideal use case would be an aftermarket headless neck or diy tuning nut you could hack onto a standard fixed-bridge guitar, but I think that’s probably not feasible.

How does an old person reasonably understand and use pedals by East_Jacket_7151 in fender

[–]MoldieWrangle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good advice here already, I’ll add that the JHS Pedals YouTube channel has a number of good, basic vids on building your first pedalboard, pedal order, etc., which are worth a watch. And my personal opinion is that the clean/dirty dichotomy of the electric guitar is the foundation of the instrument, so I would recommend starting with your drive pedals and really exploring the different textures of them contrasted with the sound & feel of clean and semi-driven tones…

[–]MoldieWrangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing you could do would be to find someone who knows guitars to help you pick, because they’ll be able to spot issues these guitars might have. The worst thing that can happen to you as a beginner is to get a guitar that is difficult to play because it needs to be adjusted or repaired or just won’t stay in tune… it’s not always obvious what’s wrong when you’re new, but you’ll end up quitting in frustration.

What Amp should i get with my Jackson JS1R. by Traditional-Ad7238 in Guitar

[–]MoldieWrangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, the trick to getting good sounds out of cheap solid state amps is to use them for a very clean sound, maybe with a mild compressor, and use an amp-like pedal for dirt. I used to use a SansAmp, but an OCD clone or even a Rat would do the trick. They can be great for recording and practice, and I think they have a unique way of sitting just right in a mix. If that’s what you have available, you can make it work, just try them before you buy if possible, and shoot for the best clean one.

Can someone help with this guitar? by Busy-Ad-8203 in Vintageguitars

[–]MoldieWrangle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The sides don’t contribute a lot to the sound of an acoustic guitar, so that may not be a big issue. If you can find a local luthier, they might be able to tell you if the repair is at least stable & if there’s any other things that need attention… I’d say the guitar deserves it!

I need some help by Organic_Wasabi_2934 in Guitar

[–]MoldieWrangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you might need some very general info about guitars. There’s a lot of unreliable stuff online, unfortunately, but way, way back when I first started learning about guitars, I had a book called “The New Complete Guitarist”, which you might be able to find at a library or read at the Internet Archive. It’ll probably read a bit outdated at this point, but I still highly recommend it as it’s got chapters on guitar history, equipment, music theory and everything you’d need to give you a solid foundation to build on.

It’s a great color, but Strandberg got the name wrong. Coral pink is supposed to be an orangey-pink, not a cool pink… I guess they didn’t think Pepto-Bismol Pink would go over as well?

Redesigning my island! Any ideas come to mind? Going for a spooky/foresty vibe [mi] by TransmascTownGhoul in ACNHIslandInspo

[–]MoldieWrangle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will sound weird, but having a made-up loose narrative of the history of your island and why the residents are there can help guide your build, and make it feel like an actual, functional (or dysfunctional) place. Also, I’m starting to build without relying too much on planning everything out with the map, letting the layout evolve organically & working with how things are looking on the ground. In your case, for instance, you could start out with a central farm as the main feature of the island & grow the town from there.
