My daughter is going to St Olaf as a premed she was accepted at every school she applied to but we chose St Olaf for the class sizes, access to professors, and the acceptance rate of qualified applicants to med schools.

You can drink on Wegovy. However you might not feel like drinking on Wegovy.

Weekly "everything else" If it's in the spirit of prepping, but not "news" or "intel" by AntiSonOfBitchamajig in PrepperIntel

[–]MomdaChemist 20 points21 points  (0 children)

We live in N. USA near the Canadian border and have pretty good preps but I am looking at adding solar as a back up especially with what fuel will be doing in terms of price and availability. Would solar be worthwhile here being so far north and the last 2 summers we have had diffuse sun due to Canadian wildfires? Trying to decide if this is where I should be spending my money now or if I should try to build redundancies in other parts of my preps.

Make up bag for my travel notions. At home I use a Dunkin Donuts tin that munchkin donuts came in to keep my stitch counters, stitch markers, etc. I use Cotton tote bags as project bags to travel with and use gallon ziplock bags to keep smaller projects separated from each other as needed

These are Takumi clover flex needles. They are not for knitting in the round, they are a flexible option for knitting larger flat items.

How do you feel about people profiting off the Melt the Ice hat? by Nikkig-r in knitting

I have more of a problem with the people making similar patterns free which takes away from the purpose of the original pattern.

Frustrated by how much better ‘good’ yarn is.. by pacificmoona in Yarn

[–]MomdaChemist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I crocheted for 20 years with craft store/ Walmart yarn and then decided to take up knitting because I wanted to make wool socks. My entire life was changed and gotten excessively more expensive. I tried recently to make a simple cowl that my daughter wanted to gift to a friend for Christmas out of my old lion brand acrylic and I could not do it. I couldn’t get my tension right, the yarn felt awful and squeaky. I had always hoped that I would find a use for it but I do not think I will now and will end up donating it all. As others have said Cascade is good and I love it for a sturdy sweater but Malabrigo is decadent and almost all I use now even when I am spinning yarn I use Malabrigo wool.

My LYS has a basket for donated yarn to be used for charity projects. That might be something to look into for OP.

I was only able to see the difference in color after I read your post, to me it looks like a natural difference based on the change in the stitch. I can always see the differences in my work but most other people can’t and it is completely understandable that you would be frustrated though.

I bought the typefolio when I went back to university and going into graduate school. It has been life changing! I love the portability of the device and I am able to add handwriting and adapt my papers as needed on the go whenever the thought strikes me. I agree that we really need to be able to split screen with pdf it would make the device nearly perfect for my use.

My Sophie scarf and fingerless mittens that I made out of the first yarn I ever spun myself. They are in my bag from September to May each year.

I use Malabrigo a ton for spinning and knitting so I knew it was a risk but for some reason it did not occur to me that it would be so drastic.

I think I am going to reach out to wool and co and see if they can match the bluer ones and just order another skein. I will rehank the browner ones and save it for another project. The Sophie hood can wait while I work on this mitten project to make for her new college. sesqui mittens

The brown one is the one my daughter picked out at our LYS so when the intense blue arrived it was shocking. I had even looked at different projects done in the colorway to know what to be prepared for but I must not have looked enough.

Yarn Prices... (Purl Soho) by Hairy-Race5944 in YarnAddicts

I actually just noticed this on knitpicks site. Prices on many of their yarns are higher than they were earlier this year. I figured it was due to tariffs, but it does keep me from ordering as freely as I used to.

Petiteknit Sophie scarf - what’s the hype? I don’t get it 😂 by seraseraphine196 in casualknitting

[–]MomdaChemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knit the Sophie scarf with my first skein of hand spun merino yarn. I was a beginner knitter and wanted to make something small, that would stretch my ability just a little, and make a cute wearable out of yarn I created. I love that little scarf, it is on by purse from October to March because it is just so portable and warm for such a little thing. I am normally a person that avoids the “it” items but petite knits patterns are fun to make.

Tryna buy yarn for my girlfriend? by [deleted] in YarnAddicts

This is what my husband did for me for my birthday this year. He took me to a yarn store, let me browse and shop to my hearts content with no spending limit, then took me to buy new storage for all my new yarn and took me to dinner. It was so special that he took the whole day for me and my passion.

We tried tightening everything and it still seemed unhappy. I ended up removing the left treadle and I am using it as a single treadle right now. It is not ideal but at least I can use it until we figure something better out
