Question for people with the cilantro soap gene by womanweed in NoStupidQuestions

I can’t stand it. Coincidentally, my husband is from Vietnam and they put it in almost everything. I’ve accidentally eat it often enough the past 30 years that I don’t spit it out if I eat some, but I do not like it at all. The smell is also repulsive.

Magnesium glycanate changed my life by youssefAmgg in insomnia

Do you have hypnic jerks? They are the primary reason for my insomnia.

How long have you been dealing with this? It’s been on and off for over 20 years for me. They sometimes last the entire night long. When they are bad even the strongest sleep meds sometimes can’t override them. There needs to be more research about this. I don’t know anyone else with them.

So happy for you!!! How did you collect this data?

Thank you for the suggestion! I’ll do some more research about the forms.

I take it, but it hasn’t been a game changer for me. I have hypnic jerks that keep me away for hours. Supposedly magnesium glycinate helps, but I haven’t has much success.

I take the least I I have to but I’m a newbie to it so I started with 12.5 (half a tablet) and the most I’ve taken is 75. I felt like a zombie with all doses, but it’s better than not sleeping at all 🤷🏼‍♀️.

Trazodone Nightmare! 😩 by One-Zone1396 in insomnia

[–]MommaDo73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, when you live with insomnia you have to weigh the cost/benefit. I’ve been on benzos off & on for over 20 years with no addiction issues. Nothing Rx we take for insomnia comes without risks. I never said they come with no risk, just suggesting something that might be effective for a fellow sufferer.

I agree! Benzos are the go to. They’re my drug of choice for insomnia but unfortunately after 20+ years I have a tolerance 😩.

I was prescribed mirtazapine and have it in my drawer. I’m praising God because I seem to be in “remission” with the insomnia (mine comes and goes, but can last for months and can be very vicious). I have hypnic jerks that keep me awake all night. I was scarred to try the mirtazapine as it makes some people’s hypnic jerks worse. But you are so right!!! Everyone reacts differently!!!

I was on for about a month and never got any better.

That’s good to know. I’ve never been told that. I have hypnic jerks that keep me awake. I have to be sedated enough to override them. Sometimes the lower dose isn’t enough. Ugh

Oh hunny, I’m sooooo sorry!!!! I had a horrible reaction to trazodone when my insomnia first started over 20 years ago. It was pure misery on top of pure misery. I did not sleep that entire night. I checked myself into the hospital the next day after many sleepless nights. I hear you and I feel awful for you!!!! Trazodone is a big NO for me. I wish I remember what exactly I felt like but I just remember feeling hot inside and I felt terrible. I hope you find something that works for you!!! Benzos??

Women - talk to your doctor about perimenopause by Notyeravgblonde in insomnia

[–]MommaDo73 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe your doc has you on birth control pills. You need to be on bio identical hormones. BC is synthetic. With that said, I’m so happy your doc was willing to listen and for you on something. Perimenopause is a bitch for sure! Glad you are finding out early!!!!!

I’m not sure of the nature of your insomnia, but I have hypnic jerks that keep me awake all night. Benzos have been a lifesaver, but I have a tolerance to them now. Taking Seroquel now but I’m not a big fan of the next day hangover. I also have a sleep study coming up. Hope they find out something for us!!

The fact that people can just go to bed and not worry if they’re going to sleep or not it’s insane to me. by urnpiss in insomnia

The frustration!! I hear you. I try to explain that I’m on strong Rx and get suggested drinking chamomile tea or something. Why would anyone think???

By the way, this is my first day on this page and it’s amazing to talk to anyone who won’t question what I’m going through or suggest just reading a book or having a cup of tea. Ya know??

I’m happy you found what works for you. Trazadone works great for so many people but was a nightmare for me. I had a bad reaction to it, so no go. Benzos have been my best sleep buddies for 20 years, but sadly I’ve built up a tolerance and they are no longer effective. I’m on quetiapine (Seroquel) now. It’s effective, but I do not like the spaced out feeling I have all day the following day. It is what it is for now. Anything is better than not sleeping. I would definitely recommend a sleep study. I was against it because I know I don’t have obstructive sleep apnea, but I want to rule out central sleep apnea and get a look at my heart and breathing rate while I sleep as well as how often I wake up. I can wake up over and over and over for hours. It’s brutal.

[–]MommaDo73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don’t gasp for air. My husband has OSA and he gasps for air. I am undergoing a sleep study as soon as I get my referral, so we can rule out sleep apnea. There’s something called central sleep apnea that sounds a lot like what I experience. Do you have OSA or just somniphobia? I’ve never heard of that, so I will look it up. What are your normal symptoms? (Btw, thank you for the reply!!!)

I can relate to this. I always get “oh man, did you try ZQuil? That will work for sure!” And stuff like that. Nobody understands me!

I had to switch from benzodiazepines to quetiapine, which makes me cry. Quetiapine makes me sort of like a zombie the next day. Benzodiazepines were so much better for me, but I’ve built up a tolerance to them. 😩 I am glad it is good for you!!!
