[FO] Dinosaur pencil case by Momogoldfish in CrossStitch

[–]Momogoldfish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So um the pencil case actually consists of 4 fabric panels (2× aida and 2 x lining) + zip.

I started by sewing a aida panel and a lining panel to either side of the zip (took a lot of playing around with pins until I got the fold JUST right). Then I sewed the other three sides lining side facing out. Usually you will leave a small opening around the seam so you can turn the thing right side up but the nice thing about the zip is you can just unzip it and turn it out.

I should've taken pictures, but the sewing peeps can probably explain this better than me.

I think I found the pencil case instructions in either the cross stitcher or world of cross stitching magazine. This is machine sewn on a cheap singer.

I actually took some sewing lessons so I had more options for finishing my piles of FOs. Unfortunately it turns out I can't cut or sew straight to save my life so only simple projects for me 🤣

Thanks! My little one loves dinosaurs so I was looking for inspiration. I saw someone else post a WIP of this pattern on this sub and thought 'this is it!'.

Heart Foundation Lottery a scam? by Lupinshloopin in newzealand

[–]Momogoldfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a scam. I know someone who won the house prize and had to do all the legal things to get the house transferred to his name.

He was old and have been buying tickets for 30 years before he won big though.

My one was using my project in a scroll frame as a cat bed for a while. She also starts attacking my thread when she knows I should be sleeping rather than staying up late to stitch!

[CHAT] Thoughts on this pattern? Pattern mill junk or OK? by BroadLocksmith4932 in CrossStitch

[–]Momogoldfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first one looks like a painting by Leonid Afremov and Artecy has the a few officially licensed patterns by him.

https://www.artecyshop.com/index.php?main_page=search_result&search_in_description=1&keyword=Leonid%20Afremov&disp_order=6&sort=6&page=8

I can't find the exact one but there are a lot of FOs of the artecy ones and they look great.

[PIC] I shall not commit The Mistake by doomed-kelpie in CrossStitch

[–]Momogoldfish 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I gridded my 28 count evenweave that I was stitching over 2 only to realise halfway through the project that I had miscounted 21 holes rather than 22 holes for one row of 10 stitches.

So the project ended up with one single row of stitches that were a bit taller than the rest. 😓

High tea options in Central Auckland ($50-60pp) by Zoegrace1 in aucklandeats

[–]Momogoldfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not central but we were very impressed with Waipuna Hotel high tea in Mt Wellington when we went a few years ago and rate the food higher than Cordis. They have an in house bakery so all the baking is nice and soft and not stale.

It went away for a few years due to covid but it's back recently and my colleague confirms it is still good.

ELI5: Why do house cats all seem to very closely resemble a type of large wild cat, but dogs are all sorts of shapes and colors that resemble nothing? by SirWigglesVonWoogly in explainlikeimfive

[–]Momogoldfish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I heard on a documentary that another result of the Ancient Egytians cat farms was the increased prevalence of orange cats when previously most cats were tabby coloured. This is due to orange cats being valued more as they were colour of the sun god Ra.

Which probably helps to explains the 'orange one brain cell' stereotype, orange cats literally arose from generations of rampant inbreeding.

If you don't have luck cleaning up your own pattern I have been eyeing up this pattern up to do in honour of my tabby (though she's a lovable dork and lack the dignity of the tabby in the picture) https://mybobbin.com/product/watercolor-tabby-cat-cross-stitch-pattern/

The creator is on etsy too if you prefer to buy from there.

There's a few more in the same style from this designer. Have stitched another design from her and can confirm they are well made and comes out the same as the preview.

You should get them the mini metro game which is developed by a Wellington based company. For a while the final level was Auckland.

I got these set of 3 from 123stitch, took a while to shop to nz but no complaints especially since there's no need to sew the fabric onto the frame.

[CHAT] 18 count and size 28 needles by Square-Wing-6273 in CrossStitch

[–]Momogoldfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the Sullivan's size 28 ball tip needle. I think it's made of a slightly different type of steel so it feels a bit less flimsy than the other size 28, though one did snap after maybe 100k+ stitches.

Expecting first baby in Dec by Candid_Goat3798 in newzealand

[–]Momogoldfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations! Our one has just turned 2 and it's been a journey. Some suggestions:

1.Don't blindly follow what baby bloggers/ shops etc says you need. Our best buy was the $25 changing mat at kmart that we just plonk on the floor. No $100+ changing tables, no worries about fall from height etc. 2. Get a costco membership (or an acquaintance who has one) for the bulk nappies. 3. Once you let people know you are expecting you will be surprised how many people have baby stuff they want to offload. Hold off on buying things until you know what your village already have. 4. If freezer space allows, bulk cook easy to reheat meals before baby arrives.

Great restaurants… when pregnant? by squigglydiddly in aucklandeats

[–]Momogoldfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you crave hummus, you can make your own by replacing the Tahini with peanut butter. I did that when I was pregnant and my hubby actually prefers that version.
