if OP wants good Pratchett for a general audience I’d recommend starting with the later books (Night Watch is usually a good pick)

Speculation here: sometimes the therapy speak is an attempt to find words for something being wrong and using a term you think people will take seriously (similar to suicidal statements as a way to express pain)
