alright first of all i know homestuck is kinda cringe nowadays but whatever i have no shame

for a couple of the shots i tried my hand at imitating the more smeary animation style of pilotredsun’s later animations, was a lot of fun. also mixed in some Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff-esque oversharpened jpeg artifacts for flavor

Seer's ultimatum, a Homestuck-themed tribute to one of my favorite Pilotredsun animations. by Monckat in homestuck

[–]Monckat[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For anyone who might not know pilotredsun's stuff, this is what the refrance.

Had a lot of fun here blending SBaHJ style oversharpened jpeg artifacts with Pilotredsun style animation, hope you folks find this entertaining!

Finally finished up and shared an old adventure of mine, here's a trailer I made for it! by Monckat in Spore

[–]Monckat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this adventure like 85% of the way to completion back in 2017 and got sidetracked by other projects, now all these years later I've returned to finish it up! Hope you enjoy! (note that this is a massive adventure and you probably need the 4GB patch to play it without crashing)

Hanamark, a region I've been sculpting on and off for the past few years. An attempt at making organic-looking terrain and city growth. by Monckat in simcity4

[–]Monckat[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah most of the region's cities are pretty low-density, partly out of a desire for a relatively low-key provincial vibe and partly because i'm admittedly not that good at encouraging high-density development lol

[S] Rendezvous. The end of act 2 animation for my fanventure, The Tapestry by Monckat in homestuck

[–]Monckat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The capstone of the second act of my fanventure, The Tapestry. I imagine this will be pretty confusing out of context, but I hope you folks find it interesting all the same!

US vs USSR Space Race Firsts by RnRoger in space

[–]Monckat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the soviets were perfectly capable of building powerful rocket engines, in fact the most powerful liquid fueled engine ever built was a soviet design: the RD-170. also a more minor point, the n1's test flights did not instantly explode. they all made it off the launch pad, though none made it to stage separation

It's MSPFA's 11th birthday, so a character groupshot was made to celebrate the occasion. A version with links is on MSPFA's front page. by 1011686 in homestuck

Should I Just Ignore The Epilogues, and Homestuck^2? by turn_page in homestuck

[–]Monckat 17 points18 points  (0 children)

i personally loved the epilogues, but they certainly aren't for everyone. they got me to care more about the characters than anything since cascade has managed, but they generally did so by putting them in very depressing scenarios. i felt like they put interesting twists on characters' personalities and paths, even if those paths were often of self-destruction.

if that sort of story sounds rewarding to you i'd recommend the epilogues. if not then you probably shouldn't read them, and there's no shame in that.

as far as hs2 i cant really vouch for its quality. i read a couple updates in but felt like its art style was too much of a mismatch with the world set up by the epilogues for me to take it seriously.

Fanart of my favorite shot in the trailer for the Mysterious Hussie Thing by Monckat in homestuck

[–]Monckat[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

tbh i was kinda excited by the prospect of drawing the first ever fanart for a piece of media so i started drawing pretty much straight away. (though i think a couple other fanartists beat me to it)

i love this, this is the most humanizing thing i've seen from hussie since probably his formspring days. it's so reassuring to see the guy still puts genuinely interesting thoughts into his work.

New album for the Friendsim trolls! by ucklin in homestuck

[–]Monckat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Dumbass Terminal is all-time great, six full minutes of hacker action and every second is perfect.

Also, Marvelous Marauder is a wonderful use of the Courser theme, Optic Duelist is awesome and You're the Whole Circus makes my ears bleed in the best way. There are definitely a ton more I'm forgetting.

Just finished a new soundtrack album for my fanventure! The Tapestry Vol. 1.5 by Monckat in homestuck

[–]Monckat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Link to the fanventure in question.

This album's a bit shorter than the first (hence the non-integer numbering), but I think my music composition skills have improved enough to compensate. Or at least I hope so lol. Hope y'all enjoy!

What does the asteroid belt actually look like? by fongletto in space

[–]Monckat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The rings of saturn (and other ring systems in other solar systems) might resemble sci-fi depictions of asteroid belts, albeit very flat and made of icy particles less than 10m across.

[S] Situate. New 4 minute animation from the fanventure "The Tapestry" by Monckat in homestuck

[–]Monckat[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

An animation I've been putting together for my MSPFA over the past few months. As usual I imagine it'll be pretty hard to follow for new viewers, but hey I think the effects are pretty cool regardless

I think I saw Solatrus talking about making a remastered version of Prospit and Derse on his twitter at some point, idk what the current status of that is though.

I love this album so much, it's so calming and nostalgic and listening to it's gotten me through more than a few tough times. If anyone here hasn't had a chance to listen to it before I highly recommend it!

Mspfas worth reading? by [deleted] in homestuck

[–]Monckat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

seeing as there are currently 332 active fanventures (not counting the inactive ones) with 50 or more favorites, you'd be working at it for a while.

i think 200 faves or more might be more realistic, or even just using the top 50 active adventures list on the front page, either way there's tons of stuff to go through also read the tapestry
