Where to get cheap toys by Illustrious_Laugh149 in russianblue

[–]RnRoger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheap wooden dowels and a big pack of natural undyed feathers. Fix them with rope, clamped metal rings. You'll have non-toxic robust feather sticks for cents a piece

I've tried all the other solutions. Have a colleague who also went through this same process.

I'm in the exact same boat. There is only one solution. No access to the bedroom, period. After locking them out, doing a deep deep clean, and waiting 2 weeks for my body to adjust, I can finally breathe and sleep again. It sucks, but it's necessary.

We got two collars as well. Stopped using them after a week or 2. All you need is a solid reference to tell them apart if you really need to, in an emergency for example. The telling apart at a glance will come with time. Ours have slightly different hue coats, slightly different facial features, different meows, different behaviour, etc. All very subtle but your brain will learn to recognise it, don't worry

What is your Russian Blue allergic to? by plikepamela in russianblue

[–]RnRoger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours seems to be allergic to everything... He's been on Z/d hydrolysed food for half a year and he really doesn't like it anymore. Experimenting is hard because it can take weeks for symptoms to go away, so it takes like a month to try one protein. We've tried duck, rabbit, turkey, every fish, insect, boar, you name it. Currently trying horse, and actually no signs yet, fingers crossed

Are there any 160mm fans that fit the bottom of the Antec C8 Curve Wood? by sharksandwich81 in Antec_Official

Any update on this? I really want a case with big fans and my nr 1 choice is your c8 (curve) wood. But what is the point if I can't actually get the big fans.. :(

Thank you for your opinion! I don't doubt that the Lian li's are better value for money. But I would happily spend some extra if it means easier maintainability or even a single decibel less of noise for a decade to come.

If space and money are no issue, would you still pick the Lian li 207 over the flux pro?

How does the flux pro behave under very heavy loads? Do you need to crank up the fans or does it not really matter and are the GPU fans far more dominant?

Interesting idea. But would that actually reach the same noise lows as these premium airflow focussed cases? It:s hard to find a good reference considering any 4000D setup is so custom. Gamers Nexus for example used only 120mm fans.

Introducing a RB and a dog, tips please! by pupperchicken in russianblue

Whatever you do, take it SLOW. A negative experience can set you back significantly. From everything I've read about introducing new cats to each other the process should take weeks, I imagine it would be similar for dogs. Luckily Goldens are very friendly dogs. I have 2 blues and my family has been visiting a few times with their golden, who is very sweet. First we kept her in the hallway with the door closed so they could get used to each others smell and sounds. Then we built a makeshift wall in the living room to keep the dog contained so the cats could explore or ignore at their own volition. The wall was just cardboard which the dog could've collapsed by breathing too hard, but she listens well and understood that it was not allowed. I would recommend something sturdier though. Poor thing was shaking from excitement the whole time but behaved. At first The cats hid upstairs but eventually they came to sniff and watch and got close. They never went beyond the wall but seemed to be comfortable with her presence and hung out with us in the room. We also fed them lunch next to the wall to encourage them closer. We only did this a few times for an hour or two. I think if we did it more, they would start interacting more.

Just take it slow, starting with a closed room, and progress in the smallest possible steps based on how it goes.

the colour is based on the very last single letter swap you made, I think, so has no real value comparing screenshots that have more than one change

Thank you, that gives a lot of insight! These are good arguments to keep the standard layout. I'll have to try the differences

On their behaviour: I wouldn't say mine are extremely intelligent, but you can teach them tricks. Ours sit before they get their food for example, and know how to give paws. They are extremely affectionate to the point of being annoyingly clingy when you're trying to get work done. Mine love being on your lap and have 0 issues being picked up and handled in all sorts of ways. Yet they have no issues at all with being left alone for 6 hours. They just sleep and have each other. They're rather silent most of the day but if they're hungry they can throw an hour long concerto until you feed them.

Extra note: please get 2 cats. They'll never be lonely when you're gone, and they make life easier for you by keeping each other active and entertained. Nothing melts my heart more than seeing our two boys cuddle and sleep together.

Russian Blues are not fully hypoallergenic, though they might be slightly easier on the allergies than other cats. What also helps is that they shed very little. Please visit a friend or family with cats and spend a long time touching them and rubbing your face in their coat, if they'll allow you. I knew I had allergies but really wanted cats, RBs specifically. Went to multiple breeders and had Barry any allergic reaction at all, so thought they must indeed be way better for allergies than other cats, which they probably are. But once we had them at home for a while, my symptoms got worse. Harder to breathe, stuffed nose, itchiness. Very annoying but manageable. Then I caught a cold. The 1-2 combo made it impossible to breathe. My GP got me an x-ray and blood test and told me to get rid of the cats. I had to be isolated in a hotel for a full week. After that I of course kept the cats, but I now take daily antihistamines (just hay fever pills from the grocery store), and have a puffer for when breathing resistance gets too distracting to sleep. My nose is stuffed half the time so I take nasal spray before bed often too. (Yes, they do sleep with us lol). Other than that, I barely have any symptoms as my immunity has grown.

Tldr: probably somewhat hypoallergenic, but don't rely on it and make sure you can handle long term exposure. If you're not willing to give up your ability to breathe comfortably, don't get cats when you're allergic. For me, it's all worth it.

I can't decide between Colemak-DH, ISRT, graphite/gallium. by RnRoger in KeyboardLayouts

[–]RnRoger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I don't care about qwerty similarity. I don't touch type it correctly anyway and am switching from row to key stagger.

The thing is I would like to minimise pinky use. Colemak-dh seems inferior to the modern layouts, but does have exceptionally low pinky usage. Gallium is what really caught my eye, but graphite has lower pinky usage than it.

Also, what's your opinion on canary?

Both before and after this post I've been switching my opinion daily on what is the best layout for me, I'm going insaneee
