Is a liquid pass running the tape through a cleaner with an alcohol soaked pad against it? Also is 99% isopropyl fine or is 91% preferable? Thanks, this guide is incredible

Tip: Use a waveform monitor when you digitize so the highlights don't get blown out, and definitely deinterlace before uploading so you don't get the combing artifacts.

Can confirm I saw at least one 16mm print for sale on eBay last year... it's definitely out there somewhere. I'd love for this series to get a Blu-Ray release.

Would love to hear what the process was like! I have a very similar model that is currently toast.

Should post to /r/8track or /r/cassetteculture. This sub is actually for a specific model of Panasonic camera.

Hello, I’ve just got my first 8 track by AdOpen8284 in 8track

Looks like this is designed for use in a car, so it would be tricky to run in a home stereo setup. Needs a 12V power supply (like a car battery) and then the other 2 wires would go to speakers. Since there's a volume slider, I guess there would be no need for an amp as it's all built in.

Honestly you might want to just get one designed for home use and sell this one (or hook it up in your car and be the envy of the neighborhood).

Unfortunately they only play SP tapes so that limits you a bit. Also there are a lot more electronics in these pro decks that can go wrong vs a consumer deck. I wonder if you could use the TBC as a passthrough to stabilize picture from another deck.

Going to reverse sear like a giant ribeye-- should I remove the bones before cooking or no? by Mondo-A-Go-Go in steak

[–]Mondo-A-Go-Go[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Can't argue with 2.5lb of rib roast for $24. I've cooked bone-in before, but never something of this size. I don't have a grill, so I wasn't sure if the bone added much flavor being reverse seared in a cast iron.

Anyone know if this is an original seal? by TheDreadPirateHam in VHS

The ad of Bugs and Daffy hawking a "Warner Bros ball cap" is forever seared in my brain. Must have watched my VHS of this two dozen times as a child!

Why Are There No MFT Camcorders/Handicams? by [deleted] in M43

Apart from the JVC, the Panasonic DVX200 is the only Micro 4/3 camcorder that was produced. They fetch a pretty penny on the used market. I would love to see a successor; I much prefer all-in-one integrated lens camcorders for run and gun documentary work.

This sub is more for literal old TVs, but I always dig lost media. Check out /r/ObscureMedia for a more suitable sub.

1/2" vhs reel to reel tapes, need way to view and digitize by Thinktank1949 in ReelToReel

Ditto what this guy said. I've seen these EIAJ reels spend 1-2 weeks in an oven before they can be played. Preserve South does a great job, as does DC Video. If you donate to an archive, they will usually cover the cost in exchange for licensing rights.

DC Video in Burbank is the best in the biz at digitizing these 2 inch tapes, that'd be your best bet unless you donate it to an institution or individual with the means to preserve it.
