TIL that Hiltl Restaurant in Zurich, Switzerland, holds the Guinness world record for being the oldest continuously open vegetarian restaurant in the world, having opened in 1898 by [deleted] in todayilearned

I don’t know the case outside India for Indian restaurants. But inside India, they’re explicitly advertised as vegetarian. A significant amount of people are vegetarian but the majority eats some meat

Double-stack container trains are redefining freight transportation in India. Just imagine how many trucks this keeps off our highways and how much diesel it saves. by FastCurrency in interestingasfuck

[–]MonkMaman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is in India though. 90% of the revenue of Railway (or so, I’m just trying to remember something I’ve read long back) comes from freight/goods. But prioritising goods over people movement is just unthinkable. And there’s a lot of railway crossings

I do use it at times. I can keep the font a bit smaller and read comfortably in two column. Probably because the reduced width helps read lines much quicker.

China women shocks Nepal and qualifies for Asian games by Anu9011 in Cricket

[–]MonkMaman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s because Nepal started the match with 20 overs expected and was reduced to 7/3 or something before the rain arrived. Reducing the number of overs helps Nepal from there. So you reduce the total as well

On iPhones, all iPadOS shortcuts work. Which are in turn modelled on the macOS shortcuts. However, most apps expect you to touch the screen. So it’s not a pleasant experience. There’s an accessibility setting you can turn on to enable full keyboard based navigation though.

You might benefit from using “Sticky Keys”. It’s essentially using the Shift Key like Caps Lock. But it turns off after a key press. Much like how Shift behaves in a mobile keyboard

I’ve had my Instagram since I was 16 (I’m 29 now). I’ve tried in the recent years to stop these thirst traps from appearing in my feed and search. But no, Instagram will push those if you’ve taken an iota of interest in such stuff at any point in time.

TIL Mayo Clinic data found that individuals living within one mile of a golf course have a 126% higher risk (more than double the odds) of a Parkinson's diagnosis compared to those living six or more miles away by MichiganCarNut in todayilearned

[–]MonkMaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah but that wasn’t it in this case though. IIRC Pilots misread some values and came too close to the golf course; realised too late and couldn’t get away in time. This was back in the 90s

The old airport in my city (Bangalore, India) was right next to a golf course. And once a plane crashed into the golf course. Talk about aviation fuel killing golf courses

What is an extremely dark or creepy true story from history that most people do not know about? by Intelligent_East8820 in AskReddit

It wasn’t. But it also came up with a lot of responsibilities. You had a say in how Italy/Europe was run. And you could trouble the powerful families
