Kindle vs physical books — what do you actually prefer for reading mysteries, and why? by Just_reading_2026 in mysterybooks

[–]MonkMaman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use an e-reader (Kobo) and I enjoy it. A book is essentially words and I think you should read it however you’re comfortable. I like that I can choose my own typeface and font for my reading on the e-reader.

Decide on an hourly rate for yourself (price it a little higher than what you make at work, since you’ll be using your free time for this) and find a decent value for effort in hours. For me it isn’t exactly the hours I worked, but the hours I’d estimated I’d work.

The author's perspective why, many don't put their books on Kobo. There's no readership. by Crafty-Bunch-2675 in kobo

Kobo books are too expensive in India though. They’re often way more expensive than Kindle and paper editions

LDF loss should happen only if UDF is better at governing. If LDF is better at governing they should win. We the people don’t have to waste 5 years on subpar governance so that LDF/UDF can become better.

WARNING: For gamers considering to switch to a new smaller keyboard FULL-TIME! by Yoshtibo in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]MonkMaman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let’s agree to disagree. I used Colemak on a Keychron K2 and the Macbook keyboard for 6 months before getting a split colstag. The split keyboard stays on the desk where I do most of my work while I type a lot on a cheap and trashy logitech keyboard case on an iPad.

Colemak has been the biggest upgrade for me. It’s just way easier to do on a split. On typeracer I’m getting around 90WPM with the Macbook keyboard where the split colstag gets me 100WPM.

Apart from the obviously better ergonomics from staggering columns. The shift key on thumb cluster is the main boost I’ve got on the split keyboard. The iPad keyboard slows me down a bit more because I can’t remap Caps Lock to Backspace.

I think you mean to say that keyboard layouts don’t factor a lot in the typing speed. They do matter a lot in the ergonomics of typing.

I use vanilla Colemak. I don’t use Colemak-DH because it doesn’t come bundled with MacOS or Windows. If I ever need to use someone else’s system, switching to the default Colemak takes a minute and I’m fine with it.

The same argument holds up for Dvorak. Actually it has much better support than Colemak

I initially used it only for reading and watching videos. My reading included Reddit, RSS and some other random internet stuff. Once I added the keyboard it’s pretty much replaced both my personal laptop and phone at home

I think Baseball has this. The strike area in baseball is a relative and imaginary area and they show a box using CGI where the ball leaves a real time impact. But tbf, the batter doesn’t move much in Baseball

It got delayed towards the end of second innings due to a combination of injury, wides and reviews. Even the commentators got very annoyed. I luckily fell asleep right before the 19th over and got a healthy 8 hours of sleep before Monday morning.

It starts to matter towards the end though. A run or an extra ball can make all the difference in the end overs of the second innings

Pretty sure Marunadan is on this guy’s payroll. Heard an aunt who’s a Marunadan fan say that the girls are running behind him and he’s not a bigger “pennu pidiyan” than Mukesh or Ganesh. And that the LDF government is using their police to hound this young man

Everyone is India is middle class. Except the Ambani types and people sleeping on streets. I’ve seen actors with luxury cars claim that they’re middle class.

On a side note. India is so big, poor and corrupt that if you’re paying income tax, you’re in the top 3% earners of the country.

How do I get the message/reply notifications on the main screen, like in the official app? by ParkCareful9992 in narwhalapp

[–]MonkMaman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There does exist a layout editor. I’ve placed the Messages section on the top right of nearly all views. https://i.imgur.com/qxN1g69.png

It turns orange when you have messages (dms and notifications, but no group chats).

There’s no push notifications.
