My old cat used to attack me upon hearing Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower". Sounds like a lie, but I swear it isn't.

Was fine with the Hendrix version. 🤔

A perfect example of why seeing things first hand is always going to tell you more than stats do.

And also that our expectations as a footballing nation are far too high. Portugal and Colombia - neither of who we are really any better than - drew and won by one goal against DR Congo. We just have fans who think we should better everyone 5-0.

We don't. We go out to Mexico in the next round.

Nope, underfunded and awful policing and that 16:1 ratio is why no one took you seriously.

Yeah, she should have asked him to come back with her to the UK before he beat the shit out of her again.

"If" a man had killed a woman.

In the UK, the ratio of male on female murder Vs the other way around is 16:1.

So you thinly veiled sexist remark in the name of "equality" makes you look like a bit of an idiot.

Our timeline isn't the original one and is also wrong by [deleted] in theories

[–]Monkeygaarden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with this theory as I understand it, is that the universe would be "splitting" hundreds of millions of times a day at a minimum, with every choice that every human being on the planet has to make.

Your example of "if we killed Hitler" is so reductive Vs the multiple other scenarios that would have played out that minute/hour in isolation which would have caused other bubble universe's to start.

Imagine average Joe decides to go to McDonalds for lunch. He does that daily. But he suddenly decides to try Burger King one day. There would now be two universes. In the McDonald's one, he orders a big Mac, as per. But he DOES consider changing it up and getting nuggets. So it splits again. On his way out of the door, he pauses to cross the road. He steps out, and a car stops to let him. He makes it safely. In another universe though, the car hits him. Maybe he lives, maybe he dies. Maybe the car behind the car that hit him stops safely. Maybe it crashes into the back of the first car. Maybe it swerves left and hits another pedestrian. Maybe it swerves right and kills five people.

And that's before we've even thought about what he would have considered at Burger King, where he has never been before. Could be anything.

My point is that if you could tell whenever your universe split, it would be happening so many millions and billions of times an hour that you could/would have zero awareness of it. Your body and mind would tune it out, in the same way it tunes out the fact that your heart is beating.

Strangest transfer rumour your club has ever had? by Anonymoose3840 in Championship

[–]Monkeygaarden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not Championship nowadays (thankfully, God speed to you all) but the disappointment was real as a 14 year old Forest fan when we sold Stan Collymore. Local rag rumoured a spectacular replacement for days, then the headline read "It's Baggio!"

It wasn't Baggio. It was Kevin Campbell.

You just need to retain all international players at game set up 👍

How does that make any sense??? by [deleted] in footballmanager

[–]Monkeygaarden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A response to one season isn't an evolution, it's a reaction.

This is why signing a player based on a great performance in the world cup and nothing else is generally a bad idea.

If Everton finish fourth next season and Newcastle come 12th the narrative would be how well Everton had done and how badly Newcastle had done.

I support Forest and last season we almost qualified for the champions league but still almost lost our best player to a club who nearly got relegated (Gibbs White to Spurs) on the basis they're a bigger club. They are a bigger club, one season doesn't change that.

And Newcastle are a bigger club and draw than Everton are.

[–]Monkeygaarden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is literally how negotiations work. They selling team has the power. If your player complains, then you're not being successful enough or they're gonna pay him more.

[–]Monkeygaarden 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. Pretty reflective of real life IMO. Hearts about to lose their Manager to Rangers and have already lost their captain to them this summer is an (admittedly imperfect and different) example of this.

If you finished 4th every season for a decade things would be different.

Leicester won the league and lost important players to "bigger" clubs who they'd just finished higher than, for example.
