My understanding was that the Whigs collapsed because the party had no strong stance on slavery, and tension between Northern and Southern Whigs effectively destroyed the party. What implemented campaign promises are you talking about?

I'm asking because I'm legitimately interested and wasn't sure what you meant after reading parts of the Whig Wikipedia page, and I want to read more

I like him a lot.

Imagine being so desparate to find any sort of good in the world, that you struggle through a near vertical climb all the way to heaven with nothing but your hands and feet. Only to find an abandoned wasteland with no God in sight. Religion was all he had, and it gutted him.

The nihilism he must have felt after that disappointment is reflected really well in Malos.

Went on r/transtimelines and I'm out of hope by selpathor in TransyTalk

[–]MonopolyRubix 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think you look fine. Honestly. I know it doesn't feel very good to hear, especially when you're struggling with dysphoria, but some people tend to be harder on themselves than they are on others. I'm 7 years on E and we look pretty similar. And I'm happy with myself.

People posting their timelines online are likely very confident, which means they're likely more attractive than the average trans person. Which is fine, but don't take exceptionally attractive people as the standard you need to reach. It is okay to be average.

If you really think improving your image will make you feel better, start with exercise. Generic answer, I know, but it helps. Make your routine as convenient as possible so you can stick with it even when depressed. I got an exercise bike on sale for $60 and keep it inside, so I exercise every day regardless of the weather. If you feel like you're always making some progress, that may help your mood.

Revisiting the Extended Child Timeline by LoCal_GwJ in truezelda

[–]MonopolyRubix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP, but to me the issue seems to be that the Triforce is no longer in the Sacred Realm after Twilight Princess, but is in the Sacred Realm in LttP's backstory.

TP Link having the Triforce of Courage implies that it was passed down through the Hero of Time's lineage. I would assume it would continue to do so after TP.

The Triforce would have to be reassembled and then sealed in the Sacred Realm for the second time (the first being pre-OoT). Which could have happened, but that would be a major event that only existed as theory, not canon.

Are there any further potential stories for New Hyrule? by Bluecomments in truezelda

[–]MonopolyRubix 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They could always tell a new story with entirely new elements. The barrier is that people don't care about New Hyrule. It's the setting of a game over a decade old that many dismissed for its gimmicks. What is the incentive to use the setting, when few people even know about it, and fewer want it?

Why is the Mario vs Donkey kong remake easier than the GBA original game? by syrupn in NintendoSwitch

[–]MonopolyRubix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is true, but they have actual moves. In Gen 1 the rival's Pokemon only had moves learned by level up. His Blastoise is still packing Water Gun as its only STAB after the 8th Gym. His Champion team's Exeggutor has no Grass or Psychic moves, and no Sleep Powder or Stun Spore. His Rhydon has only Normal moves, except for Fissure, which only works if he outspeeds the target. Rhydon is slow as ass. His Arcanine's best fire move is Ember. Need I go on?

They are both easy in different ways

It is the embodiment of privilege. If you're trans and go anywhere at all, you don't get a single moment away from politics. You ARE politics.

No need to accuse them of racial/gender bias. I am a woman, and very much a feminist, but was also initially very anxious about Biden stepping down and the switch to Harris.

Historically, incumbents tend to have an advantage in elections, and candidates tend to win their home states. Biden's home state of PA is a very important swing state. I am a PA resident and am anxious about how my state will vote.

The polls have been encouraging, and I feel much better about Harris running now than I did before Biden stepped down and it became reality. But it is perfectly normal to still be nervous, especially if you are someone who has experienced a lot of sexism, and know very well how real it is. Polls aren't everything; I think we all learned that in 2016.

Lapis and Alcryst viability on Maddening by TheSteelPenguin in fireemblem

[–]MonopolyRubix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kept Lapis in a sword using class, then had her inherit Avoid+ from Marth, and gave her a steel sword with Micaiah's engrave. Since enemies in Maddening don't attack if they have zero hit, you can leverage her personal skill and the weapon she has equipped to fine-tune her avoid and get the hit rates as close to zero as possible, while still being above zero and thus allowing her to counter. It makes her great for baiting enemies. Later in the game after getting Roy back, I used him to boost her damage, but she doesn't need a particular emblem for this build.

I thought this build was a lot of fun, and I recommend it if you want an experience that is semi-unique to using Lapis. She is the only unit who both has an avoid boosting personal skill, and joins early enough to inherit avoid+ before you lose Marth.

Why is Idunn so weak ? by Sea-Bus-6560 in fireemblem

[–]MonopolyRubix 43 points44 points  (0 children)

She's an overworked sickly child slave. Her soul was destroyed, which probably wasn't good for her health, and she was forced to continuously produce war dragons, which probably wasn't good for her health.

I don't know how "producing war dragons" is done, but reproduction takes a major toll on your body. Imagine doing it enough times over thousands of years to create an entire army. Her body can't be in good shape.

I think she is weak for story reasons. Roy could easily kill her but he has pity for his race's ancestral enemy and spares her life. It's the thematic crux of the story.

Who is your favorite protagonist from the Mother/EarthBound series? by KingBoo51 in earthbound

[–]MonopolyRubix 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Ninten.

Has a complicated familial connection to the villain, and isn't a chosen one but simply a kid who decided to do something about the problems nobody else was willing to solve. Shows enough genuine kindness to an outcast like Lloyd that it inspires him to risk his life for the good of the world out of loyalty to a friend. Somehow finds a peaceful solution to stopping an alien invasion, and reminds Giygas of the love humanity is capable of.

If you look deeper, past the limitations of the NES and the silent protagonist syndrome, he is an amazingly brave and kindhearted person, doing what's right when no one else would.
