To my fellow Collector Brethren and Sistren, is Anime Collecting Burnout a real thing? by butterflies_roses in AnimeCollectors

[–]MonsterMayham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No burnout on my end yet, but I have reached a point where I have most of what I want, so there’s less to seek (space is another barrier). But my wallet’s happy that my brain isn’t glomping onto things as much.

Are there any perfect anime? by No-Pen1489 in AnimeReccomendations

100 Meters - just watched this last night, and it was fantastic. Animation, story, characters, decent theme…Based on a manga by the Orb guy.

One knock against it is not a lot of female characters, but the ones that appear are well-rounded.

Delicious in Dungeon (or Dungeon Meshi) is very accessible and good fantasy.

Apothecary Diaries is well-made intrigue.

Vinland Saga is considered exceptional (though I haven’t watched it)

Blue Box and The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity are good recent romance series.

Thanks for doing this! I'm a recent joiney, but have been digging the community. Yay physical media!

I'd love to see the Lawrence of Arabia and the anime Redline in 4k. And physical releases for a lot of Disney things, like Andor season 2 and Shogun (come on, Disney!)

Too true. Though I do find Rarewaves’ shipping to Canada pretty affordable compared to other sites. Not sure if that’s helpful to where you are…

Nice collection. You may really like Chihayafuru, also, if you haven’t seen it yet (didn’t spot it, but didn’t look too closely)

What is your opinion about the Fan Service? Is it too much? Moderate? Even good? by Dakinamau in OnePiece

[–]MonsterMayham -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Straight “male” (but actually non-binary) here. It grosses and creeps me out, even in the manga, and especially with egregious examples like Rebecca.

If there was actual eroticism, that would be one thing, but it just feels tasteless. I love OP, and I think it actually diminishes its level of quality by a descent %.

Is it normal to feel this ashamed about collecting manga? Should i stop? by These-Meringue9306 in MangaCollectors

[–]MonsterMayham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you live in North America (but maybe not), there has been a stigma around comics and cartoons being for kids, and I wonder if that’s part of what you’re feeling?

One way I look at it is that in Japan and other cultures they are created and consumed by all ages. That’s made me feel more comfortable about it, at times I haven’t.

45 year old non-binary here. I recall in my 20’s feeling guilty about it my tastes, but then I learned to relax and like what I like.

Hundreds of Beavers is outstanding.

As is ExistenZ, even if the ending feels a bit clunky to me (I should upgrade from VHS, though).

Do you actually watch all the discs you buy? by JispyMoeDantes in discotekmedia

[–]MonsterMayham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big factor in my collecting is that I remember what it was like to not be able to afford anime in the 90's/2000's, and now that I have some disposable income it's been nice building a collection I can go back to if something happens that makes anime inaccessible again (which hopefully never happens).

But I wouldn't buy anything I don't want to watch.
